Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?

Chapter 228 - 227: Yan Ying (Pei Yin + Duan Feiye)

  • Next Chapter

Lu Qi cursed her internally. ’Bitch, bitch, bitch!’

Zhang Qin was too busy to break away, but he wished he could take off his shoe and smack Yan Ying across the face with it.

He said scathingly, "It’s always the ugly ones who make the most trouble."

The others watched her warily from the corners of their eyes, afraid Yan Ying would try to pull something.

Yan Ying ignored them and continued to egg on Lin Hai. "Throw her overboard! If you dare disobey me, believe me, I’ll..."

"Get lost!" Sheng Yue, for once, was furious.

THUD.

It was the dull sound of a lump of flesh hitting the ground.

Yan Ying had lost count of how many times she’d been sent flying. Her Level was so low that sometimes she couldn’t even tell who had hit her.

Crashing to the ground again, the pain knocked the wind out of her and made her head spin.

’It’s fine,’ she thought. ’I’m used to it.’

She climbed to her feet. So resilient.

Zhao Jiangyou gritted his teeth as he applied Healing to her. "Can you please stop making a scene!"

Yan Ying’s atrocious behavior was far beyond anyone’s imagination. In a matter of life and death, not even a ghost could figure out what kind of fit she was throwing.

It wasn’t that Zhao Jiangyou didn’t know she was unreasonable, but this was the first time he had witnessed such headstrong, life-threatening stupidity.

"Calm down, Miss. Now is not the time to act tough. We can talk about this when we get back."

Yan Ying’s head cleared, but she was still in disbelief. "Calm down? How do you expect me to calm down!"

She had never suffered such humiliation in her entire life.

She grabbed Zhao Jiangyou and shook him violently. "Are they insane? They’re not even afraid of offending my grandpa, all for some woman? Die! I want them all to die!"

Zhao Jiangyou looked at her with disappointment. "How could Grandpa Yan have a granddaughter like you?"

For some reason, both Yan Yu and Yan Ying were like a pair of alphas on steroids.

Zhao Jiangyou suspected there was something wrong with the Yan Family’s genes, but there was nothing he could do.

He was just a lowly Healer. If even Admiral Yan, with all his precious medicines, couldn’t find a solution, what could he possibly do?

Zhao Jiangyou took a deep breath.

When the mercenaries broke their contract and left, he hadn’t understood the look they gave Yan Ying. He had just assumed they couldn’t stand her spoiled-brat attitude.

Looking back on it now, he realized they had been looking at her as if she were already a dead woman!

Emperor Wolf Star’s glory had faded over twenty years ago.

But the development of the Imperial Capital Star had exceeded everyone’s expectations.

He didn’t know Sheng Yue’s temperament, but if they truly provoked him, he doubted Sheng Yue would spare Yan Ying just for Admiral Yan’s sake.

Zhao Jiangyou’s tone couldn’t help but become scolding. "Don’t you understand why the mercenaries left, Miss?"

Yan Ying’s eyes were bloodshot. She glared at Zhao Jiangyou as if he were a traitor. "You’re just like them. Your wings have hardened, is that it?"

’Who the hell do they think they are?’ she fumed. ’Every single one of them dares to lecture me now?’

She had been to countless planets. She had even visited the Imperial Capital Star a few times five years ago, and every time, she had been treated with the utmost respect.

"Just wait until I get back! I’ll deal with all of you!" Yan Ying shot a glare at Zhao Jiangyou before turning and grabbing the arm of a companion beside her.

He was a Level 2S Awakener, the strongest person she had with her.

Yan Ying mouthed silently, "Follow me."

The man nodded in silence.

His mask obscured his face, so Zhao Jiangyou couldn’t see his expression, but he felt the man’s eyes were lifeless.

Yan Ying and her companion circled around behind Jian Yu.

Jian Yu turned around slowly, raising an eyebrow.

"You... What are you doing?" Yan Ying’s face went pale with fright.

She was both cowardly and defiant. "You dare touch me? My grandpa is..."

Jian Yu was getting tired of it. No matter which world she was in, it seemed she always had to listen to people arrogantly name-dropping their so-called fathers and grandfathers.

"I don’t care who your grandpa is."

A thick, light smoke shot out and lifted Yan Ying into the air.

Jian Yu’s eyes narrowed slightly.

She rarely resorted to violence, afraid of ruining her so-called "Little Fairy" image.

Especially after her rose-tinted glasses for Si Xu had shattered, she had become even more dedicated to maintaining that image.

In her previous life, her upbringing and the law didn’t allow her to fight back. She was afraid of it being classified as a mutual affray, which would mean no compensation. If she ran into someone with connections, she might even get beaten up and then thrown in jail.

Jian Yu wouldn’t proactively harm others. Even when there was conflict, she would just suppress it and distract herself with entertainment videos.

It wasn’t that she couldn’t be bothered to argue; it was that she didn’t have the confidence or standing to do so.

Was she afraid of killing?

Jian Yu wasn’t, actually.

In her eyes, killing a person was no different from killing a Mutant Beast. A clean blade goes in, a red blade comes out.

When faced with a situation like this, who wouldn’t want to vent their anger? How many people have killed in a fit of rage? If you don’t kill, you just wait to be killed by others.

Before, she didn’t dare, and it wasn’t worth it. But now, in a world where might makes right, she truly wasn’t afraid.

The corners of Jian Yu’s lips turned up.

’I think I’m starting to like this world,’ she thought.

"You... GHKK..." Yan Ying’s throat was constricted, and she began to suffocate.

This was the first time she had ever seen Jian Yu smile.

It was sweet, yet utterly lethal.

She finally realized something was wrong and struggled desperately. "Let go! Let me go!"

Yan Ying’s companion didn’t dare to fight back directly and begged for mercy, "Please, I’m begging you, let our miss go!"

Yin Jiu had wanted to stage an "accident," which would avoid trouble without making Jian Yu think it was ruthless.

But Jian Yu had initiated the fight on her own.

Yin Jiu was conflicted. It was a little worried Jian Yu would feel bad afterward.

It had never seen Jian Yu kill anyone.

Sheng Yue’s spiritual power pressed down: [You do it.]

Realization dawned on Yin Jiu, and with a fierce swipe, it added: [Get down there!]

Yan Ying and her companion were tossed into the river like trash.

Their horrific screams were swallowed by the sound of the water. Several mutant crocodiles swarmed them, each fighting to be first.

As blood bloomed in the river, the red thread on Jian Yu’s wrist throbbed wildly.

’Is that... Duan Feiye?’

Why was Duan Feiye’s aura in Yan Ying’s blood?

No, it wasn’t just Duan Feiye. Pei Yin’s was there too.

’Pei Yin...’

’You’re too cold to me. Don’t push me away. My treasure. I’ll wait for you to come back.’

Jian Yu’s expression went blank. Her heart felt as if it were being squeezed tight, aching with a suffocating pain.

It felt as if she had accidentally killed Pei Yin.

Jian Yu’s mind was a bit dazed as she looked down.

’Still,’ she thought, ’if Duan Feiye dies, he dies. We’re not close anyway.’

’But Eagle can’t be harmed.’

Zhao Jiangyou suddenly shouted, "Stop!"

Two men charged at Jian Yu, ready to fight to the death.

Jian Yu sidestepped and lifted her eyes.

A condensed ball of purple mist shot out, precisely striking the two men.

With a flick of its tail, Yin Jiu casually tossed them into the water.

It shrank in size, its eerie blue eyes fixing on Captain Lin Hai.

The crew members behind Captain Lin all looked up at the sky.

What a very sky-like sky it was.

Captain Lin cursed them internally for being so useless.

He swallowed hard. "Um, self-defense. Totally understandable. If needed, I can testify on your behalf to Admiral Yan."

The boat sped up, moving away from the "battlefield," and the river’s surface returned to calm.

Zhao Jiangyou remained silent, but his expression was one of grim, death-defying resolve.

THUNK—

The boat continued to accelerate. Lin Hai and Jian Yu’s teammates were all pointedly ignoring Zhao Jiangyou.

Zhao Jiangyou stared silently at the tips of his shoes.

He was thankful to have kept his life.

But he was also inexplicably terrified.

’What am I going to do?’ he panicked. ’I came on one trip and got my benefactor’s granddaughter killed.’

Jian Yu looked back.

The river churned, and traces of blood were faintly visible.

She couldn’t figure out the connection between Yan Ying, Pei Yin, and the others.

Judging by Yan Ying’s understanding of Sheng Yue’s power, it didn’t seem like she knew Pei Yin and his group.

Jian Yu glanced at the impassive Sheng Yue.

’Does Sheng Yue know, or not?’

’If he doesn’t know, maybe I can start with Zhao Jiangyou.’

Jian Yu stared at Zhao Jiangyou, lost in thought.
