White Dragon Lord
Chapter 427: The Platinum Dragon God's Invitation
The White Dragon Lord was just about to sweep away the sand to investigate when the dune suddenly trembled. Yellow sand cascaded like breaking waves, putting him instantly on high alert.
'Has the evil entity beneath the sand already escaped?!'
Under the White Dragon Lord's gaze, the dune bulged before a massive snake head burst from the sand. The head alone was the size of a heavy truck. The giant serpent unhinged its maw and lunged at him, baring pitch-black, hollow fangs clearly harboring lethal venom.
The White Dragon Lord beat his wings violently, rapidly gaining altitude. Simultaneously, he condensed a massive block of ice and hurled it into the giant serpent's gaping maw. The ice, roughly the size of an adult bull elephant, shattered with a single bite, sending frozen shards spraying in every direction.
Crash!
The giant serpent slammed heavily back onto the dune, kicking up a massive plume of dust. Through the settling grit, the White Dragon Lord stared down at the writhing behemoth.
It was a giant serpent banded in green and black. Even tightly coiled, its sheer bulk eclipsed the White Dragon Lord. An ominous black energy permeated the air around the creature—a vile, ethereal, and foul power that felt like the incarnation of a nightmare.
Catching sight of the twisted human visage crowning the serpent's head, the White Dragon Lord remembered an entity he had almost entirely forgotten. This was the demigod snake that had tried to spread its faith in the Afiaiv Kingdom, only for Amos to thoroughly ruin its plans and play it for a fool—the Human-Faced Green Snake.
"Monafido?!"
Hearing his slightly bewildered question, the giant serpent halted its impending attack."Ah... I haven't heard that name in a long time. Who are you?" The twisted human face atop the serpent's head opened its eyes, fixing its mist-shrouded, malignant pupils on the White Dragon Lord. "A white dragon?"
"Hmm... an ancient white dragon. I hate white dragons."
"If you liked me, I'd be rather disturbed. Monafido, why are you here?"
The Human-Faced Green Snake ignored the question, a bewildered expression crossing its twisted face. "You seem to know me! But I've never seen you before! Just who are you?!"
The White Dragon Lord naturally felt no obligation to answer either. He activated his Soul Sight to probe the giant serpent's condition, sensing that something was fundamentally wrong with its physical form.
When he peered at the Human-Faced Green Snake's soul, he was startled. A massive swarm of twisted, wretched souls coiled around the serpentine spirit, furiously gnawing at it—yet the snake's soul remained completely oblivious to the feast.
'No!'
'These aren't souls!'
'Just what the hell are these things?!'
'Abominations?!'
'Has the Human-Faced Green Snake fused with an Abomination?!'
"It's you! The white dragon—Amos! That bastard from the Nordhill Plane?!" Even as the White Dragon Lord observed it, the Human-Faced Green Snake finally remembered, spewing a foul, pitch-black cloud of toxic gas from its maw.
The White Dragon Lord answered with his Dragon Breath, instantly freezing the toxic cloud and the surrounding air solid.
He had neutralized the serpent's offensive, but he wasn't relieved in the slightest. The bizarre anomaly clinging to the creature's soul sent a chill down his spine. "Monafido! What exactly have you done to yourself?"
"I've grown stronger! Haven't I? This is the harvest of over a century's work!" Eerie purple energy erupted in all directions as the Human-Faced Green Snake writhed and danced within the mist. "White dragon! Now that I think about it, I really must thank you. If you hadn't driven me to such desperate straits, how would I have ever discovered such a treasure trove?! To show my gratitude, I shall grant you the supreme honor of becoming one with me!"
With that, the giant serpent lunged at him.
"White dragon! Is dodging all you can do?!"
The White Dragon Lord continuously evaded the strikes while weaving his Soul Magic. After a full minute of evasive maneuvers, the spell was finally complete.
Legendary Soul Magic—Spear of Divine Punishment!
The invisible, intangible soul spear pierced straight through the serpent's spirit. The Human-Faced Green Snake's soul was instantly annihilated, and its massive, lifeless body plummeted back down into the desert, smashing into the sand and kicking up a towering cloud of dust.
He had instantly slain an opponent at the absolute pinnacle of High-Tier Legend, yet he couldn't find it in himself to rejoice. To his horror, the Soul Magic had absolutely zero effect on the grotesque entities coiled around the serpent's shattered spirit. Instead, they were in a frenzy, hungrily devouring the crumbling remnants of its soul power.
Unkillable by any form of attack and only capable of being sealed—it was undoubtedly an Abomination.
With the Human-Faced Green Snake dead, the Abomination accelerated its feasting, rapidly taking total possession of the serpent's physical shell.
The dead serpent suddenly snapped its eyes open once more. Its dull, lifeless pupils were now swimming with an eerie purple mist. The beast craned its neck to the sky and let out a silent, roaring hiss—a soundless shockwave that nonetheless slammed into the White Dragon Lord with terrifying, suffocating pressure.
Suddenly, Amos noticed massive bulges erupting all across the surrounding sands, as though something was fighting to claw its way to the surface.
A shriveled, brown hand burst from the dunes. Its heavily wrinkled skin looked entirely devoid of life, fingers grasping blindly at the empty air as if trying to pull down the sky. A thoroughly desiccated Orc struggled out of the sand, raising its head to fix soulless, eerie purple eyes on the White Dragon Lord above.
In rapid succession, countless more entities clawed their way out of the desert. There were humanoid Orcs, alongside wolves, stags, and various other beasts. Without exception, every single one was a desiccated husk burning with those same eerie purple eyes. The White Dragon Lord quickly realized that these empty shells weren't being driven by souls, but by the grotesque Abomination itself. Every corpse below was effectively an extension of the Abomination's will.
Rumble!
A colossal red hand erupted from the earth, throwing up a massive wave of sand. The missing Flame Demon—Ogresa—clawed his way to the surface. He was immediately followed by a host of other colossal beasts: giant dragons and titans alike tore free from their sandy graves, silently turning their soulless, eerie purple gaze upon the White Dragon Lord.
The atmosphere fell into an eerie, suffocating silence. The endless horde of husks bursting from the sands pooled together into an undulating sea of death. Staring down at that ocean of soulless purple eyes, Amos felt his scalp go entirely numb.
'Time to go! I'm out of here!'
The White Dragon Lord unhesitatingly tore open the spatial fabric of the Madilan World and dove straight into the chaotic turbulence of the endless void. Navigating to a safe coordinate, he teleported directly back to the Nordhill Plane. The very first thing he did upon arriving was utterly obliterate the Portal leading to the Madilan World, instantly severing any chance of the Abomination following him back.
After firing off an urgent magical missive to the Holy Sanctuary, Amos teleported straight to Sky City. He marched briskly through the corridors and shoved open the heavy doors to Merlin Heavenly Principle's office.
"Speaker, I just encountered something incredibly bizarre!" The White Dragon Lord dropped into a chair and recounted the entire terrifying ordeal in the Madilan World to Merlin Heavenly Principle in full detail.
It took some time for Amos to recount the full story.
"Speaker, it simply doesn't make sense. Since when do Abominations ever appear in pairs?!"
"It might be far more than just pairs," Merlin Heavenly Principle said, his brows pulling into a tight frown. "This brings an ancient legend to mind. It is said that in the primordial era, Abominations wreaked absolute havoc across the multiverse until The Gods themselves intervened to capture them. But these entities couldn't simply be tossed aside and sealed just anywhere. The Gods deliberately selected specific planes to act as isolated prisons for them. The Madilan World... is likely one of those designated Abomination prisons."
"You were smart to immediately tear through space and flee. Abominations hold a deep-seated hatred for all living things. Their abilities are entirely alien and incredibly difficult to counter. If even a few more of them had clawed their way out, you likely wouldn't have escaped at all."
Recalling that sea of cold, emotionless purple eyes, the White Dragon Lord nodded in subconscious agreement.
But thinking about the breached prison, a spark of worry flared in his mind: 'The Gods won't come looking to pin the blame on me, will they?!'
After mulling it over, he cast the anxiety aside. The massive war between the dragons and the titans had completely drained the Madilan World of its elemental energies, which most likely destabilized The Gods' ancient seals. The imprisoned Abominations had merely seized the resulting structural flaws to mount a prison break—Amos had just had the terrible luck of walking in on it.
Even The Gods couldn't reasonably blame him for that.
In fact, rather than being at fault, he had actually done them a massive favor. He had discovered the breach early and immediately alerted the Holy Sanctuary so The Gods could be informed. In a way, he was the one who sounded the alarm.
'I wonder what state the Madilan World is in right now.'
Regardless, the White Dragon Lord firmly made up his mind to stay entirely out of this mess. He had only just recently broken through into the Abomination Rank—he was still practically a fledgling powerhouse at this tier. He would happily leave this apocalyptic nightmare to the true heavyweights.
After chatting with Merlin Heavenly Principle for a while longer, Amos teleported back to the Overseas Archipelago and resumed his magical research.
But not long after, the Ancient Gold Dragon came knocking on his door, bringing direct news from the Platinum Dragon God.
"Amos, His Majesty the Dragon God of the North Wind just handed down a divine decree. He has ordered all Metallic Dragons Above High-Tier Legend to assist in hunting down the escaped Abominations."
The White Dragon Lord was taken aback. "What happened?"
Through Adelaide's recounting, Amos finally learned the aftermath of the Madilan World crisis. Thanks to his prompt warning, a task force of deities had immediately descended upon the Madilan World and brutally suppressed the rioting 'prisoners.'
But The Gods had still been a fraction of a step too late. Before the divine perimeter could be sealed, four specific prisoners managed to tear open the fabric of space and escape into the endless void. The four Abominations that successfully broke out were the Nightmare of the Void, the Hundred-Eyed Giant, the Devourer of All Things, and the Nine-Armed Titan.
It was important to remember that it had taken the combined, coordinated might of The Gods back in the primordial era to capture these monsters in the first place. Now that a few had slipped the net, it would spell an unmitigated disaster for the entire multiverse the moment they fully recovered their strength.
Just as the White Dragon Lord had suspected, the root cause of the jailbreak was the massive loss of elemental energy during the war between the dragons and the titans. The rapid drain had weakened the structural integrity of the seals, creating tiny flaws. This, coupled with the chaotic destruction wrought by entities like the Flame Demon and the Human-Faced Green Snake, had triggered a catastrophic chain reaction.
As a result, The Gods didn't seek out the White Dragon Lord for blame—instead, they marched straight to the dragon gods and the titan magnates. Within the hallowed halls of the Pantheon, the furious deities laid the blame squarely at the feet of the draconic and titan pantheons.
Tiamat had bluntly shut down their accusations, sneering that it was none of her business and telling them to go complain to the mortal dragons who actually fought the war. The God of the Dark Titans immediately echoed her sheer dismissal. However, the cornerstones of the lawful good factions—the Platinum Dragon God and the Luminous Titan—chose to step forward and shoulder the responsibility.
Thus, the Platinum Dragon God handed down a divine decree ordering his followers to aid in the hunt. Adelaide had specifically come at his behest to recruit the White Dragon Lord. After all, even within the mighty Dragon Race, Ancient Giant Dragons at the Abomination Rank were few and far between. In a crisis like this, every extra powerhouse increased their odds of success.
The White Dragon Lord felt incredibly conflicted. To be completely honest, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with this catastrophic mess. However, given the immense respect and standing of the Platinum Dragon God, he couldn't just flatly refuse either.
He looked over at the Ancient Gold Dragon. Adelaide had bled for White Castle and contributed immensely to his territory's rise. If the old dragon were to fall in battle while hunting these Abominations, Amos knew he would regret it for the rest of his life.
"Fine. I will assist His Majesty the Dragon God of the North Wind in the search. Did His Majesty mention a rallying point?"
The Ancient Gold Dragon's face lit up with joy. "Right in the Madilan World. His Majesty has already transmitted the precise coordinates."
"Amos, Senior Adelaide, what are you two discussing?" Elena called out enthusiastically, striding over to join the two dragons.
"His Majesty the Dragon God of the North Wind has just called upon us to help hunt down several escaped Abominations. Amos and I were just preparing to head out."
"Abominations? That sounds incredibly interesting. Can I come along?"
The Ancient Gold Dragon looked over at the White Dragon Lord, leaving the decision to him. Amos mulled it over. Elena's strength was easily top-tier even among High-Tier Legends, and with his own personal protection, she shouldn't be in any real danger.
"Alright. One more dragon means one more bit of strength."
Drawing on the power of the Teleportation Platform, the White Dragon Lord locked onto the coordinates and directly teleported the three of them into the Madilan World.
Hovering high in the sky, the White Dragon Lord gazed down at the thoroughly ravaged land below. The Madilan World had been fundamentally broken by the sprawling, Abomination-Rank war. Entire mountain ranges had collapsed, rivers had boiled dry, and bottomless abyssal rifts scarred the earth as far as the eye could see. Bubbling magma spilled from the jagged cracks, completely incinerating everything it touched. Aside from a handful of stubborn plants, all native life had been entirely wiped out.
"What an absolute shame," the White Dragon Lord murmured, feeling a twinge of genuine regret.
"It truly is. A perfectly thriving world, reduced to this desolate ruin solely because of the war between our dragons and the titans. It grieves me deeply," a gentle, resonant male voice spoke from right behind him.
The White Dragon Lord whipped his head around, laying eyes on a colossal platinum dragon. Its sheer length was nearly double that of Amos himself. Its immense form was defined by graceful, breathtakingly elegant lines, and its densely packed platinum scales gleamed with a blinding metallic luster. The majestic creature was the absolute embodiment of both supreme power and peerless beauty.
It was none other than the Dragon God of the North Wind—Bahamut.
Bahamut was known by many titles: the King of Good Dragons, the God of the North Wind, and the Lord of All Dragons. He was the eldest direct descendant of Io, the progenitor of the Dragon Race, and stood unchallenged as one of the most powerful dragons in existence today.
Or perhaps, not just one of the strongest. Bahamut was a paragon of the lawful good alignment. He championed justice, relentlessly punished the wicked, and protected the innocent, earning him a stellar reputation across the planes. Aside from his absolute dominion over the Metallic Dragons, countless mortals from other races worshipped him as well. Consequently, his flock of believers heavily outnumbered Tiamat's, and his divine rank naturally eclipsed hers. He was a true deity possessing Intermediate Divine Power.
"Good day to you, Your Majesty," the three dragons greeted in unison, bowing their heads in a traditional draconic salute.
The Platinum Dragon God swept his gaze over the trio before letting his eyes settle on the White Dragon Lord. "I am very pleased that you chose to come."
A complicated emotion flashed in Amos's eyes. "Truth be told, this world has deep ties to me. I chose to join this hunt partly to protect my kin, but also... to seek justice for those who perished here. After all, the people of this world were once my subjects."
The Platinum Dragon God opened his maw to reply, but suddenly stopped. He turned his massive head, his brows knitting together as he stared intently at the distant horizon.
Seconds later, the White Dragon Lord felt it too—a uniquely potent pulse of divine energy rolling in from the exact same direction. The power felt distinctly warm and brimming with hope, yet it left a deeply uncomfortable, abrasive sensation prickling against Amos's scales. He instantly guessed who was approaching.
The Luminous Titan—Augustine. Also heralded as the Light of Titans and the King of Glory, his supreme standing among the titan race was the exact equivalent of the Platinum Dragon God's authority over the dragons.
The White Dragon Lord led Elena and Adelaide through the air, slotting themselves into the sprawling formation of dragons gathering nearby. Every single High-Tier Legendary Dragon here had answered the Platinum Dragon God's call to hunt the Abominations. There were well over two hundred giant dragons gathered in the sky, the overwhelming majority of them Metallic Dragons. Counting Amos himself, the host proudly boasted six Abomination-Rank Ancient Giant Dragons.
Standing out as the absolute only Abomination-Rank Chromatic Dragon in the entire army, the White Dragon Lord naturally drew quite a few curious stares. However, they were entirely friendly.
The White Dragon Lord glided over to the side of the Abomination-Rank brass dragon, Desert Bane, and offered a respectful nod of greeting. Then, side by side, they turned their attention back toward the distant horizon.
Sweeping across the distant sky, a colossal titan radiating blinding, holy light was rapidly approaching, leading an absolutely massive army of titans right behind him.
