Chapter 1463: Chapter 1462: Departure

When the time comes, I’ll go see him directly in my wedding dress. That counts as a little surprise.

Counting the days, that’s also about when Alexander Kingsley gets back from his business trip.

"Alexander Kingsley, give me a few days of peace. When the time comes, I’ll definitely give you a... satisfactory answer."

"Okay." Even over the phone, he could feel a wave of unease.

The call didn’t last long.

It hung up in less than five minutes.

Carla Carr rushed into the bathroom to wash up, got changed, and went downstairs.

After finishing breakfast at Lanwan Yayuan, she told Eva Nightingale she was leaving.

"Eva! I’m going to Z Country for a bit."

When she came back... it might just be for her wedding.

"Which city in Z Country?" Eva asked on reflex.

"City A." That was where she’d stayed for three years, where she got pregnant and had her baby.

"City A!?"

Eva originally wanted to say she’d go with her, but City A... Eva hesitated.

Liam Coldwell was from City A, and City A was basically the Coldwell Family’s turf—pretty much the whole Z Country was.

The bride price from Liam Coldwell had already been sent to Eastern Europe, and Eliana Beckett had accepted it. To avoid him, Eva had escaped here. There’s no way she could go to City A now. If she ran into Liam Coldwell, wouldn’t she be walking right into the trap?

"Sorry, Carla. I was going to say I’d go with you, but right now I really can’t. Take care of yourself, and call me if anything happens..."

"I’ll take good care of myself, Eva, don’t worry."

Eva: "When are you heading out?"

"This afternoon..."

...

2:30 p.m., First Special District Airport.

Eva Nightingale saw Carla Carr off at the airport. She didn’t know why, but this kind of parting sadness made her chest ache, even though Carla was only going to City A for a few days.

Swallowing the sting in her heart, Eva stepped forward and pulled Carla into her arms. "Carla... I’ll be waiting to be your bridesmaid."

"Mm~" Carla patted her back. "Eva wifey! You’re always so strong, and now you’re suddenly this clingy—I’m kind of overwhelmed..."

"Too bad I’m not a man..."

"If I were a man, I would definitely..."

Carla always had a way of making Eva laugh.

Before she could finish, Eva let go of her in mock anger. "Carla Carr, you’re such a fucking perv!"

"You’re a perv too!" Her tone was begging for a beating.

"Fine~ then in your next life, grow yourself a man’s equipment before you call me wifey again!" Eva was completely done with her.

Even with the mood this heavy and sad, somehow it still felt like...

"Alright~ I’m heading out..." The next time you see me, I’ll be in a wedding dress.

Carla’s eyes were stinging too. "Eva, once I get married, you and the Crown Prince need to hurry up... got it?"

To humor her, Eva just nodded randomly, brushing it off.

"Take care." Eva said the two words and didn’t delay her trip any longer.

She turned around and walked off without looking back...

She really hated this feeling of saying goodbye.

Her heart felt hollow and empty.

After the plane took off, Carla leaned back in her seat. She’d never expected her relationship with Eva Nightingale to become this close.

But why had things between Eva and Lucas Knight gotten so bad, to the point where Eva even raised her hand in that café?

In her memory, Eva wasn’t that kind of person...

Even when they got divorced back then, she’d never laid a hand on Lucas Knight.

But Carla understood—love and hate tangled together... the more you love, the more you hate. Still, she believed Lucas Knight would definitely fight through hell and high water to win Eva back.

Eva Nightingale was still at the First Special District, staring up at the sky where the plane had long since vanished.

She didn’t pull back her gaze for a long, long time.

It wasn’t until later, when a bodyguard came over to call her, that she snapped out of it and left.
