While Others Evolved, I Understood Reality
Chapter 68: Target Practice
Adam took a while to get back to normal.
The emotions he felt from his master while the man read his message were frightening. It was as though a raging storm was ready to engulf him whole.
"Ha..."
With a sigh, he returned the katana to its rack. He stepped back and looked at the various weapons on display, spoiled for choice. Adam did not even know where to start. Different types of swords, combat knives, daggers, polearms, battle axes, and even ranged weapons like compound bows and crossbows lined the walls.
"Why would he have all these weapons if his personal weapon is a katana?"
Adam threw the question to the wind, his eyes darting over everything that caught his attention. His eyes finally settled on the firearms and lingered. He had never used firearms before, so the curiosity clawed at him.
Gingerly approaching the firearms rack, Adam took in the various models, his eyes sparkling with interest. Beside the rack was a holographic display that showed the model name, blueprints of its assembly, and other useful information.
"He even has models dating back to the old world," Adam muttered with wonder in his voice, his eyes catching one particular set. There were both the old world model and the modern world model.
"Desert Eagle MK XIX 50AE."
Adam did not know a lot about firearms, but that did not matter. He would eventually learn and create his very own. For now, however, he wanted to try them out.
Reading through the information on the gun, Adam retrieved the old world set and assembled the pieces according to the information provided. A satisfying click resounded after he completed the task, putting a smile on his face.
Below were the ammunition boxes containing the magazines. Rather than just picking the two he needed, he carried the entire box to the adjacent shooting range. Once he set things up and loaded the weapons, Adam stepped forward.
About twenty meters before him were three silhouette targets, each with marked points allotting a certain number of points.
Adam placed one of the guns down and focused on one. He first needed to get a feel for how it worked before focusing on dual shooting and accuracy improvement. With a deep intake of breath, he grabbed the gun with both hands and aimed, activating his unique skill.
"Here goes nothing..." releasing the breath he drew, he fired.
Bang!
The gunshot was loud, but manageable.
"Not bad."
His first shot scored a seven on the upper part of the target. He had been aiming for the centre, but the recoil changed the forces and calculations he had made. Adjusting based on his observations and new calculations, he aimed once again.
Bang!
A smile graced his features.
"Dead centre."
Adam unleashed a few more shots after that, every time hitting the target right in the middle. He switched it up and lowered his left hand, aiming with just the right. Tweaking his previous calculations and the force of his one-handed grip, he fired a shot.
Bang!
A nine.
Another shot followed.
Dead centre.
Adam fired the remaining rounds, the bullets tearing through the exact same spot every time. He quickly replaced the magazine and fired once again, this time moving around while aiming at different angles.
He would then switch to his left hand, steadily raising its accuracy and dexterity.
With each variation he tried, his accuracy increased, his calculations faster. Once a target was exhausted, a new one would automatically be brought up, the training chamber’s AI paying attention to the user’s needs.
In his eyes, the world was like a giant mathematical equation. He saw calculations and equations everywhere, autocorrecting and adjusting based on changes to his person, surroundings and weapon.
After several minutes of firing, Adam lowered the gun, a smile tugging at his lips. He had improved so much in so little time that he had begun sketching shapes on the targets.
"Now for dual wielding."
Adam could not suppress the excitement in him. He was having a lot of fun using the guns. Sure, blades had their uses, but he was starting to see various skills he could create using the handguns as a foundation.
"Hehe. This is exciting!"
And his Combat Index was rising steadily.
[Combat Index:....34.32%]
<Unarmed Combat:...47.65%>
<Weapon Mastery:.....21.85%>
<Marksmanship:.....37.98%>
Wielding the two guns in his hands, Adam got to firing, the rapid release of bullets echoing across the shooting range like a continuous stream of thunder. He would switch it up from time to time.
At one point, he turned his back to the shooting range and unleashed a round of rapid fire, carving various geometric shapes into the target. His aim and familiarity with the Desert Eagles rose so much in just three hours.
[All targets have been utilised]
The reminder from the AI system was the only thing that forced him to stop.
Adam finally placed the guns down and sighed. He had exhausted all the targets, and the floor was filled with countless bullet casings.
"I think I might have overdone it again."
The number of bullets he had gone through was astronomical. Adam did not know how much they cost, but they would definitely be expensive. He swallowed nervously, afraid his master might reprimand him for the waste.
Just because he was given free rein to use the facility did not mean he could waste the resources there without consequence.
’I should begin creating materials.’ He silently thought.
"Lucy?" Adam called out.
[I’m listening.]
"Is there a place where I can get cleaning materials to clean up this mess?" He stepped out of the bullet casings and looked around.
[There is no need to worry, Adam. This facility has a dedicated team responsible for cleaning and maintenance.]
"Oh, okay. That’s good."
Adam nodded in understanding, sighing in relief.
Just then, his stomach grumbled, demanding attention. "I guess I’ll have to end my training here."
Leaving the shooting range, Adam explored the training chamber a bit more before turning to the exit. He turned, looked around one final time and grinned.
"I’ll definitely be back."
With that, he left the training facility. Adam got out to find fresh tyres on his car. It seemed his master had taken the liberty to order a change of tyres for him while he trained.
"Isn’t this master of mine too good to me?"
Whatever it was, he appreciated the gesture and made a mental note to thank him when he saw him. As he drove away from the training facility, several gazes followed him, displeasure evident on their faces.
