Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The First Pet in the Entire Server

By now, Rowan Rhodes had made ample preparations. She had secured the entire raft tightly and placed two air purifiers on every level.

The Seagull Family stayed by Rowan’s side, though they were currently busy stuffing themselves with food and drink. They hadn’t been idle today, having spent the entire time helping Rowan fish for supplies from the ocean. After fishing the items up, they expertly categorized the resources and placed them into the numbered Storage Boxes. It was safe to say that the Seagull Family had become Rowan’s excellent helpers.

Honestly, Rowan hoped to get as many helpers like them as possible. And the most likely recent addition to her crew would be the Pet Egg.

Thinking of the Pet Egg, Rowan instinctively glanced at her control panel. After all, according to the timeline, it was supposed to hatch tonight. The moment she looked, she saw that the Pet Egg’s hatching status had already entered its final countdown.

Rowan immediately stood up and headed for the third floor. Seeing her hurried figure, the Seagull Family instantly took to the air to follow her. Were they about to get a new member?

When Rowan arrived at the third-floor pasture, she saw that the creature inside the Pet Egg was already pushing against the shell. A slight crack had formed on the surface, and it was steadily growing larger. Watching this scene unfold, Rowan’s heartbeat unconsciously sped up. She knew very well that a pet had to struggle out of its shell on its own to ensure it grew up healthy.

CRACK CRACK CRACK...

Through the pet’s relentless efforts, a large gap finally opened up in the shell. Through the opening, Rowan caught a glimpse of the creature inside.

It turned out to be... a Sea Turtle?

While Rowan watched in surprise, the Sea Turtle continued to widen the gap. The moment it finally climbed out, it began to eat its shell, munching with loud CRUNCH CRUNCH sounds.

After finishing its shell, the Sea Turtle looked up at Rowan. It quickly crawled to her side, stretched out its head, and stared intently at her, its eyes filled with a subtle fondness. It already knew that Rowan was its master.

"Master~"

Through her natural skills, Rowan immediately heard its soft, adorable voice. Her heart completely melted.

[Congratulations to the player for obtaining a pet: Sea Turtle.]

[Pet: Sea Turtle]

[Level: 1]

[Skill 1: F-level farming]

[Skill 2: C-level Collection (Master Bonus)]

Rowan looked at the Introduction and froze. Her Sea Turtle’s skill was farming?

The next moment, Rowan reached her hand out to the Sea Turtle. It naturally climbed onto her hand, its tiny body completely covering her palm.

"Hungry~"

Rowan smiled at the sound and immediately took out a Frost Phosphorus Shrimp. The moment the Frost Phosphorus Shrimp appeared, the Sea Turtle beamed with joy and began gobbling it up, one bite at a time. Most surprisingly, as the Sea Turtle ate, its body visibly began to grow larger.

This scene completely defied Rowan’s understanding of common sense. Then again, in the Sea Survival Game, there were far too many things that defied common sense anyway.

While Rowan was feeding her new pet, a new window popped up on the control panel.

[Server-wide Announcement: Player Rowan Rhodes has obtained the first pet on the server. Rewarded Bronze Treasure Chest x1.]

[Server-wide Announcement: Pet Mode is officially activated. Players can obtain Pet Eggs on islands.]

Reading this announcement, Rowan was genuinely a bit stunned. Weren’t pets supposed to unlock only after a player reached Level 10? Had the timeline been bumped up yet again just because she obtained and successfully hatched a Pet Egg early?

However, Rowan didn’t take this matter to heart. Getting an extra Bronze Treasure Chest was basically free loot. What she was actually curious about was why there had been no server-wide announcement when she took in Seabird One as a pet.

Looking at the Seagulls’ Introduction again, it was indeed much simpler than the Sea Turtle’s.

[Pet: Seabird One]

[Level: 3]

[Pet: Father Gull]

[Level: 6]

[Pet: Mother Gull]

[Level: 6]

[Pet: Seabird Two]

[Level: 2]

[Pet: Seabird Three]

[Level: 2]

The Seagull Family didn’t have Skills like the Sea Turtle. Was this the main difference between them? Rowan didn’t mind that the Seagulls lacked Skills. As long as they could get the work done, that was enough. She couldn’t ask for too much!

Meanwhile, many players in the region were waiting for midnight, speculating on the next natural disaster so they could prepare for it. Suddenly, this brand-new server-wide announcement popped up. The moment they read it, many players simply felt numb. It always felt as if Rowan’s version of the Sea Survival Game was completely different from theirs.

After the Sea Turtle had eaten and drank its fill, it looked up at Rowan.

"Explore~"

After expressing this, the Sea Turtle naturally began crawling around, clearly trying to familiarize itself with its new environment. The Seagull Family was incredibly curious about the Sea Turtle; they landed on the deck and followed closely behind its footsteps.

Their conversation echoed directly in Rowan’s mind.

"What are you doing?" Seabird One asked.

"Familiarizing myself with the environment," the Sea Turtle replied.

"Want me to show you around?" Seabird Two chimed in.

"No need~ I can do it myself," the Sea Turtle answered.

"What’s your name? I’m Seabird Three, named by our master," Seabird Three added.

"I haven’t been given one yet," the Sea Turtle replied.

When this conversation reached Rowan’s ears, she was stunned. Previously, she had only been able to pick up a word or two, but now she could hear full sentences? Rowan instinctively checked her panel and discovered that her F-level skill had leveled up straight to E-level.

It seemed that constantly using this skill to communicate with the Seagulls recently had finally paid off. She decided she would use it more often in her daily routines.

With that in mind, Rowan chimed into their conversation, "Sea Turtle, how about I name you Big Turtle?"

"Sure! I like being big. I’m going to grow big and tall~" the Sea Turtle happily replied.

"Alright then, you guys get familiar with the environment. I’m heading downstairs." Although Rowan was incredibly curious to see how Big Turtle would utilize its F-level farming skill, there probably wouldn’t be an opportunity for it to demonstrate tonight. She would just have to wait until tomorrow.

"Mmhmm~"

The group of pets gathered together, wandering around the entire raft. Occasionally, Rowan could still hear their chatter and laughter. Listening to them, she couldn’t stop the corners of her mouth from turning upward. With the addition of the Sea Turtle, the raft felt much livelier. The Seagulls clearly found it novel, too!

When Rowan brought her attention back to the control panel, the first thing she noticed was the World Channel excitedly discussing the fact that she had obtained a pet.

"Boss Rowan Rhodes is amazing! She actually got a pet."

"I wonder what kind of pet it is?"

"Having a pet is great. At least she won’t feel so lonely."

"Yeah, being all alone on a raft gets pretty lonely sometimes."

"Sigh! Boss Rowan Rhodes’ journey has been way too smooth. I’m jealous!"

"Are there pets on Glimmerstone Isle?"

"I don’t think so! There are only wild boars and hens. You can’t exactly keep a wild boar as a pet!"

"Hey, a wild boar is an absolute menace in its own right!"

"Speaking of which, has no one really used a Positioning Card on Boss Rowan Rhodes yet? She definitely has a ton of good stuff on her."

"I kind of hope someone uses a Positioning Card just so we can see Boss Rowan Rhodes’ true strength."

"The entire server has descended into absolute chaos right now, and the rankings are constantly shifting up and down! Only Rowan Rhodes remains solidly in first place, completely unmovable."

"Someone just used a card to locate Boss Zelda Parrish’s waters, but she won the fight and shot straight up to second place."

"Ahhh! Someone challenged me, what should I do?"

"@Zelda Parrish, please give us some guidance."

"Zelda Parrish: Positioning Cards have a time limit. If you can’t defeat your opponent but have enough resources, just stall for time. Once the time is up, the opponent will be forced to flee, and you’ll obtain a portion of their resources. If you can defeat them, attack their raft. If their raft’s Durability drops to 0, you’ll obtain all of their resources."

"Okay, thanks! The opponent’s Level is higher than mine, so I’ll just stall!"

"Wait, doesn’t that mean whoever uses the Positioning Card first will end up taking a loss if they initiate an attack without having an overwhelming advantage?"

"I feel so much more relieved now."

"Relieved my foot! Because of the Positioning Card’s restrictions, people will just start looking for soft targets to bully!"

"..."

Rowan wasn’t surprised by the rapid shift in topics on the World Channel. After all, at this moment, the raft wars sparked by Positioning Cards were the biggest concern next to natural disasters.

Looking at the players discussing the rules of the Positioning Cards, Rowan paused.

The players still hadn’t fully understood the game’s mechanics! The upcoming team battle mode was going to be the most thrilling part! She knew very well that once team battles began, players might just set their sights on her.

While Rowan was deep in thought, the clock finally struck midnight. As the numbers hit zero, the sea calendar updated with new changes, immediately drawing the focused gazes of countless players.
