When the Saintess Arrives, No King Exist
Chapter 1413 - 1327
Chapter 1413: Chapter 1327
The red dragon lurked underground, ether spilling like moonlight over the layered stone carvings.
When Horn and Hilov stepped onto the sandy ground at the bottom of the underground palace, the gravel rustling beneath their feet, Cynthia slowly raised her massive dragon head.
Horn felt the wolf woman clench his hand.
"You and Serafe are quite alike." Compared to the previous ungracious demeanor when meeting Horn, the red dragon now seemed as tranquil as an old lady in a rocking chair.
She rested her chin on her front paws, her golden pupils fixed on Hilov, as if afraid of scaring her.
"I am not like her; I am a beastman."
"Beastmen and dwarves alike are the true owners of this land; you are, we are all creations of us giant dragons."
"Beastmen and dwarves? Are you saying that beastmen and dwarves are the original races of this world?"
"Sort of, it’s just that the homeland of the giant dragons had these two races; we just imitated..."
Seeing the coaxing, gentle, and kind Cynthia, Horn could only feel a head full of questions?
When he met her earlier, why did Cynthia have such a ’you owe me eight million’ stressed look, and now she’s suddenly gentle with the wolf woman?
Double standards?
And a double-faced character?
After a few simple exchanges, Hilov gradually opened up a bit; she didn’t feel that Cynthia was as harsh as Horn had claimed.
Realizing the red dragon seemed more approachable, Hilov stopped making small talk and got straight to the point: "I’ve always had a question, why must I meet you to hear the truth?"
"Your soul is quite unique, wolf woman." Cynthia’s dragon head tilted slightly, "Before you arrived, even if I wanted to tell you the truth, I couldn’t, because it wasn’t up to me either, I didn’t know."
Saying this, Cynthia slowly shifted from lying down to sitting, her scales subtly scraping, making a faint "rustling" sound.
"Who set this all up?" Horn stepped forward.
"I don’t know, the inherited memory only tells me that only when the remnants of the first living witch arrive will I be able to know."
Alive, the remnants of the first witch.
Clearly, Horn could not be the remnants of the first witch, which leaves only Hilov.
The Sorrido Clan also knew that Hilov’s body held the centuries-old witch’s heritage.
"What if she never appears?" Hilov pressed on.
"Then I’ll just wait until the world ends," Cynthia said lightly.
Wait until the world ends? Does that mean it might never happen until the world ends?
Does that mean it’s actually a backup plan? Whose backup plan? The giant dragons’?
Before Horn could figure it out, Cynthia spoke: "I gave the last remaining star-forged gears, including the miniaturized ones, to Serafe to create the Spring Heart.
At the time, I had a vague premonition of this day coming, and indeed, it’s here now."
Taking a deep breath, as Hilov lowered her head to digest, Horn began to inquire: "Now, can you tell me..."
Horn’s words were cut short by Cynthia: "Don’t be so hasty, kid, I still have to retrieve those memories and check if she meets the requirements."
As Cynthia uttered a few eerie dragon words, the snake-men in the underground palace stone passage began quickly pressing switches or twisting carvings.
In about half a minute, Horn felt something buzzing.
In the next second, the stone carvings around suddenly lit up, undulating and shifting like waves.
The slabs, filled with ancient runes, seemed infused with life as the runes traversed the stone seams, emitting a dazzling white light.
"Rumble boom zoom!" An indescribable sound emerged from Cynthia’s throat, not loud, yet causing the three present to cover their ears.
Then, small holes opened at the top of the underground palace, the ether wrapped in starlight poured down, transforming from rays to a light curtain upon contact with the invisible vibration.
A silvery white light curtain suddenly cascaded down from the dome of the underground palace, sweeping from everyone’s head to their shoulders.
Wherever it passed, the gravel shone like crystals, and the air rippled.
"Watch out!" Horn instinctively embraced Hilov’s shoulders, pulling her back three steps.
But the light curtain turned into a gauzy light upon contacting Hilov, making her appear translucent like white jade.
"Click-clack-click-clack..."
From within Hilov’s chest, the sound of the Spring Heart, once a clue for Horn to locate her, suddenly resonated in everyone’s ears.
"The time has come, finally the time has come—" Cynthia let out a thunderous dragon roar: "Oh ah eh—! De wo ang! De wo ang! De wo ang!"
The massive sound wave exploded in the light and shadow palace, sending the gravel flying in all directions and causing dust to fall from the stone walls; even the ether beams shook violently.
The immense body of the red dragon trembled violently, her eyes bursting with blinding white light.
Her dragon eyes became like suns suspended in the depths of the underground palace, lighting up the entire palace as bright as day.
Horn and Hilov instinctively closed their eyes, raising their hands to shield themselves amid the roaring dragon noise and the sharp sounds of the air being torn apart.
This ferocious power persisted for nearly half a quarter-hour before gradually subsiding.
When Horn lowered his hands and squinted to look, he saw Cynthia’s head droop weakly, her massive wings sagging onto the ground.
Her scales had lost their previous luster, appearing dim and fatigued.
