Chapter 1390: Chapter 1261: Battle of Motte (Part 1 Finale)_2

The earth beneath was still moist from the rain, and the silhouette of Mount Motte loomed faintly in the blood mist—it was the land they were meant to guard.

He recalled those stubborn Holy Alliance soldiers, rooted firmly into the ground like a trellis, unmoving.

"I don’t understand," Eyliff murmured, his voice hoarse yet resolute.

"What don’t you understand?"

"We’ve escaped so many times, fleeing farther each time..." Eyliff raised his head, as if all the pent-up frustration and fury within him erupted, "When will we stop running?!"

The soldiers glanced at each other, someone whispered, "But the Flesh Titans are terrifying, staying means certain death!"

"Better to die than to live like a stray dog!" Eyliff turned sharply, a fire burning in his eyes like never before, "I don’t want to be a wanderer in my own home; the Falan don’t want to be deserters any longer, to be looked down upon!

We’ve run so many times, lost so many times, I’m done running, I’m done!

At least give it a try, just try, see what happens if we don’t run?"

Eyliff didn’t understand why the Holy Alliance people, they spoke of the Thousand River Valley People with such determination.

Now he understood, because the Thousand River Valley People had fled too often, from Kush Grassland to the Thousand River Valley, then from the plains to the mountains.

They had long grasped a truth: retreat is endless, leading only to the ruin of the nation and the extinction of the tribe!

The soldiers fell silent, their desire to retreat was never strong, merely driven by habitual thinking.

"Those who wish to leave may do so, say it’s my order; those who don’t, follow me back now!"

A young soldier clenched the Helical Gun in his hand, "Wherever Eyliff Infantry Captain goes, I go!"

"Yes, fight! We can’t be deserters all our lives!"

More and more soldiers responded, their previously numb faces showing determination.

Eyliff nodded, waving his hand wide: "Come back with me, let those vampires see, the Falan don’t just run!"

......

The position was soaked in blood, trenches piled with bodies and broken weapons, every Holy Alliance soldier wounded.

This time, it seemed the enemy’s panic had caused half to flee, yet more Vampire armies pressed forward.

As for the Flesh Titans, they too advanced, though lagging behind to guard.

Since the Flesh Titans’ movements were cumbersome and not fast, if they fell into the trenches, they might struggle to climb out.

This single Flesh Titan’s value far exceeded ordinary soldiers tenfold, they must be used sparingly.

Soon, once the artillery positions are taken, they would rely on them to break through the enemy’s front.

In reality, due to Eyliff’s panic retreat, many Flesh Titans were redeployed to the front lines.

Lanilus’ left arm was sliced deep by a blood claw wound, sticky blood causing him to almost lose grip of the Helical Gun.

A Flesh Titan approached with heavy steps, his boots crushing the trench edge soil, a great sword held high, whistling through the air towards the trench.

"Dodge quickly!" Lanilus shouted, shoving two soldiers aside, having half his shoulder cleaved by the great sword.

The great sword struck the trench edge, causing a segment to collapse instantly, the Flesh Titan slipping a foot into the soil likewise.

Two soldiers couldn’t evade in time, crushed alive beneath the Titan’s body, letting out a short, sharp scream.

Only around three hundred soldiers remained on the position, barely resisting with what was left of the sandbag fortifications.

Vampire infantry rushed in like sharks scenting blood, through the breaches torn by the Flesh Titan.

Though the line seemed to teeter, any Flanlaya Norn...any unit outside the central battle force of the Holy Alliance Battle Group would have retreated by now.

Yet this battalion continued to endure, even slaying a Flesh Titan.

This was the tradition of the Black Champion Army—from the Gulag era, they were daredevils with ropes around their waists, never retreating!

"Die—"

Hurling a plasma grenade to halt the Flesh Titan, Lanilus gritted his teeth, charging from the side of the trench.

With a bayonet, he pierced through a vampire’s throat.

He just attempted to withdraw his weapon when another vampire’s blood spike penetrated his calf.

The vampire hadn’t had a chance to smile before a hunter’s steel sword cleaved through his neck.

Pulling out the blood spike, Lanilus roared with reddened eyes: "Hold on! Hold on!"

The sound seemed so faint amidst the deafening clash of battle.

More and more vampires crossed the trenches, forcing the Holy Alliance soldiers to retreat step by step, until they had nowhere else to retreat.

Now the Falan have retreated, and large units of vampires surged forward, their artillery positions being toppled once more. Is there no chance to turn the tide?

At this moment, Norn felt somewhat desperate. If only he had known, even if it meant holding them, he should have kept Ailif’s troops.

But even so, he did not regret his previous decision; the Holy Alliance will avenge them!

The Holy Alliance never forgets their martyrs.

"Boom——" The deafening roar rang out, and at first, Norn thought it was an illusion.

But when he looked up, the blood-and-flesh Titan that had fallen into the trench had already toppled straight down.

Norn stood up and saw on the back of its skull embedded a sphere the size of a brown-orange.

"It’s the Falan! They’re back!"

"They’ve rebuilt the artillery positions."

A Holy Alliance soldier shouted excitedly.

Ailif led the charge, the bayonet in his hand whistling through the wind, slashing toward the vampire officer at the forefront.

The blade passed through, stabbing straight into the heart.

The nearby Long Spearman tried to retaliate but was sent away when Ailif drew out his hand cannon and raised it.

The Falan soldiers arrived, and the volley sounded instantly, five consecutive rounds of triple volleys, vampires at the front dropped in swathes, tearing open a gap.

"All units! Bayonet charge!" Ailif’s roar echoed through the mountain path, Falan soldiers put down their guns and picked up their bayonets, rushing into the trenches like a flood breaking through a dam.

Seeing this, Norn forced himself to endure the sharp pain in his calf and stood up abruptly: "Coordinate with the Falan brothers, flank from both sides!"

The Holy Alliance soldiers’ morale soared, dragging their battered bodies out of the trenches to form a pincer attack with the Falan soldiers.

The blood-and-flesh Titans, already hindered by previous damage, now had their charging rhythm completely disrupted by the two-sided assault.

A Titan had just raised his broadsword when he was surrounded by three crouched Falan soldiers; fearing one of them might have a plasma bomb, he could only dodge.

Another Holy Alliance soldier seized the opportunity to leap out, using the Helical Gun to aim at the slit in its helmet and fired.

The lead bullet penetrated the armor and exploded at the back of the head, causing the Titan to stagger and fall.

With the double-sided assault, consecutively failing three blood-and-flesh Titans, the remaining vampire infantry had no choice but to retreat.

Watching their retreating figures, not only the Holy Alliance soldiers but even the Falan soldiers were stunned.

Yet again, they repelled the blood-and-flesh Titans—even Ailif was a little dazed.

Twice in a row repelling the blood-and-flesh Titans, is this an achievement humans can accomplish?

"Not running anymore?" Norn asked with a chuckle, looking at Ailif.

"Not running anymore." Ailif shook his head.

But before they could catch their breath, the ground shook violently once more.

Everyone looked up, and under the mountain path, the two previous failures had already angered the commander.

Ten blood-and-flesh Titans formed a neat line, slowly advancing, behind them was a dense crowd of vampire infantry.

A new fierce attack was about to begin.

"Want a smoke?" Norn took out a paper cigarette from his pocket, Ailif instinctively took it, took a drag, and then curiously asked, "Have you guys noticed, just after shooting, there’s no dizziness?"

Since the Helical Gun is mana-driven, after the shooting is complete, there must be a period of non-response.

But just now, they each fired far more bullets than their own mana could support, with their volleys barely stopping.

Yet they didn’t feel tired.

Norn raised the Helical Gun and, after pulling the trigger, fired a shot, and suddenly paused: "Strange, it’s true."

Ailif also instinctively fired a shot, the usual dizziness after continuous shooting was nowhere to be found.

He raised an eyebrow at Norn: "Hey, it’s true! Before, just a few shots made me dizzy, what’s happening now?"

The two exchanged a glance and saw confusion in each other’s eyes.

But they didn’t have much time for bewilderment, as the vampire troops rushed up once more.
