Zhou Chengchen responded with a shout towards Zhou Qi: "Bro, you got this!"

After speaking, he hung up the phone.

Zhou Qi listened to the busy signal on the phone for a long time before slowly putting the phone back in his pocket. He looked up at the pitch-black sky, feeling a sudden flicker of irritation in his heart.

He thought he was truly without desire, helping Xiao Rou and being good to her was from the heart. As long as she needed, he could keep doing this indefinitely, but what about the future?

He and Xiao Rou were impossible, so what would he do when someone new appeared by Xiao Rou’s side?

Thinking back to when Xiao Rou had a boyfriend before, how did he manage?

At that time, he was with Zhou Chengchen in the United Kingdom, far from home, and because of Zhou Chengchen and Xi Siyan’s matters, they had hardly any contact with people back home.

So although Zhou Qi knew about Xiao Rou having a boyfriend before Zhou Chengchen, he seemingly didn’t think too much about it at that time.

He deliberately made himself not think about it, not pay attention, focusing all his energy on his studies, which resulted in his extraordinary grades.

No one knows about these things, not even Zhou Chengchen.

As time passed, they gradually faded from Zhou Qi’s mind.

Zhou Qi knew he liked Xiao Rou, but since he could let go for that reason and go far away, nearly ignoring her, Zhou Qi thought perhaps he didn’t like her that much.

Not to the extent that it had to be her.

But today, Zhou Qi realized he was wrong.

When Xiao Rou wasn’t in his sights, one day he could bear it, two days he could reminisce, over time he could get used to it, but whenever she appeared again, his gaze would only fall on her.

He couldn’t help but wonder, during this time, was she happy? Were there any bothersome things troubling her? Did anyone bully her?

And now, looking at the sky devoid of stars, Zhou Qi finally revealed a self-mocking smile.

He’s really not that into her, it’s just, it has to be her!

That seems inexplicable, but that’s precisely how Zhou Qi feels inside.

Liking someone may just be that inexplicable.

Feeling the gaze of others on him, Zhou Qi snapped out of it, realizing he was just standing in the middle of the street like a fool.

He stuffed his hands back into his pockets and continued walking forward. But after taking only two steps, he suddenly stopped.

He pulled a hand out of his pocket, two tickets held between his fingers, their competition tickets.

These were the tickets Zhou Qi had put in his pocket before leaving home, intending to give them to Xiao Rou, but he had completely forgotten.

Zhou Qi frowned and, almost instantly, turned around and ran back.

He had nearly returned to his team, but now he sprinted all the way back, running straight to the building below Xiao Rou’s apartment.

He propped a hand against the wall, took a few deep breaths, and pressed the doorbell.

Xiao Rou had just showered and was putting on a face mask when she heard the doorbell ring. She hesitated for a moment and went over to look. It was Zhou Qi, and Xiao Rou froze. Had he forgotten something?

While she was still pondering, her hand pressed the door open button.

In a moment, there was a knock at the door. Xiao Rou went to open it, relieved that she’d showered quickly enough. Otherwise, it would’ve been embarrassing if Zhou Qi had rung the doorbell while she was in the shower.

The door opened, and before Xiao Rou could speak, she saw Zhou Qi’s brow instantly furrow: "Are you using sesame paste on your face?"
