Chapter 83: Chapter 82: The Overbearing CEO’s Little Wildcat 23
Ji Minghua watched the video several times and scrolled through the comment section. He finally had a rough idea of Ji Xiaosong’s current status.
’So my sister who ran away from home all those years ago is now the wife of a tycoon!’
He scrolled through several similar videos, and Ji Xiaosong was in nearly all of them.
After a moment’s thought, he posted a comment under the most popular video:
"I’m Ji Xiaosong’s biological younger brother, and I’m so proud of her. But sister, could you please check on Mom, Dad, and me? Mom’s health is getting worse by the day. She’s barely hanging on."
He waited and waited, and finally a few replies came in.
"Hey, poster above, you’re just making this up, right?"
"Yeah, the guy above is definitely lying. If he were really Ji Xiaosong’s brother, why wouldn’t he just contact her directly instead of commenting on a short video?"
"That said, there really isn’t any information online about Ji Xiaosong’s family."
"So what? Do you think the woman who married the sole heir of the Lu Family could come from some small, unknown background?"
"The news said she’s already had three sons and is now pregnant with quadruplets. The fact that she’d still personally go to a disaster zone under those circumstances... with that kind of dedication and strength, there’s no way she’s someone who would neglect her parents."
...
Seeing the flood of replies, Ji Minghua was so angry he wanted to smash his phone.
"What do you all know? My sister disappeared years ago before she even graduated from college. Our family hasn’t been able to contact her this whole time. We only just found out about her, which is why I’m leaving a comment."
He explained this and even filmed a few short videos to upload to his own account.
At first, they didn’t get much attention. But after a week of filming over a hundred videos, Ji Minghua’s posts finally started trending.
Ji Xiaosong had just finished helping distribute relief supplies and was finally getting a moment to catch her breath when Qin Fang handed her a phone.
"Ma’am, a man claiming to be your brother has been posting a lot of videos about you online. Would you like to take a look and decide how to handle it?"
Ji Xiaosong took the phone. One look confirmed it was Ji Minghua’s account.
His hundred-plus videos were basically all just sob stories.
There were videos of Mother Ji bedridden while he attentively cared for her;
others of Mr. Ji spouting drunken nonsense while Ji Minghua silently endured by his side;
and still others showing him studying hard, yet frustrated and unfulfilled...
The point of it all was to show how miserable his family was, while his sister, Ji Xiaosong, ignored their plight completely.
Ji Minghua even produced an old photo of Ji Xiaosong. It was just a small ID photo from her student card, but you could still make out her features.
Mother Ji and Mr. Ji came forward to corroborate his story, and they even found a few other villagers to back them up.
Ji Xiaosong took one look at the villagers and recognized them all as the village ruffians and lowlifes.
The Wang Family didn’t make an appearance, and Ji Minghua made no mention of Wang Zheng or what had happened between them.
"Have the PR department monitor the public sentiment and quietly shadow-ban Ji Minghua’s videos. I don’t want to respond to this right now. It would be pointless."
"Understood, Ma’am."
Qin Fang had barely left when Lu Youheng called.
"Honey, the head of PR just told me the Ji family is causing some trouble for you. Do you need me to handle it?"
"It’s fine, just let the PR department handle it. I’m focused on my charity work and my medical studies, so our lives are unlikely to intersect. As long as he doesn’t come looking for trouble, there’s no reason for me to bother with him."
’His pathetic little antics are nothing the PR department can’t handle. There’s no need for me to get involved.’
’If they can’t even handle something this minor, then there’s no point in the Lu Family keeping them on the payroll.’
’If I were still just some struggling nobody, I might have had to get into a public spat with him over something like this.’
’But now I’m a wealthy matriarch with money, connections, and the moral high ground. I don’t need to stoop to his level.’
Just as Ji Xiaosong had predicted, the PR department moved swiftly. Within an hour, all of Ji Minghua’s comments and videos were completely scrubbed from the internet.
At the same time, they located Ji Minghua and had a "talk" with him.
The kind of villainous pushback you’d see in a novel—the troublemaking, the confrontation with the protagonist—it didn’t even cause a ripple against the Lu Family’s PR department.
Within a day, all of Ji Minghua’s social media accounts had been wiped clean.
When Ji Xiaosong returned home half a month later, the director of public relations called.
"Ma’am, would you like to meet with your brother?"
Only then did Ji Xiaosong remember Ji Minghua’s online antics.
"Arrange a meeting in a quiet place. I’ll see the three of them."
"Of course, Ma’am. I’ll arrange it right away. All the posts your brother and parents made about you online have been deleted. We’ve also spoken with them, and they’ve agreed not to do anything similar in the future. And even if they do, we have contingency plans in place. Please rest assured."
"Good. I have full confidence in your professionalism."
After settling the follow-up plan with the PR director, Ji Xiaosong stroked her growing belly. It was time to rest.
They chose a day on the weekend when Ji Minghua didn’t have school. He and his parents followed the PR director to a private residence.
Qin Fang stood behind Ji Xiaosong, ready to protect her at a moment’s notice.
Outside the door stood two rows of burly bodyguards. One look at their imposing figures made Mr. Ji’s legs tremble.
The moment the three of them walked in, they saw Ji Xiaosong sitting calmly, sipping a fruit tea. She didn’t spare them a single glance.
Mr. Ji, who had planned to put on airs, was so intimidated by the two rows of bodyguards that his tone immediately softened.
"Ah, Xiaosong, look at you, living so well these days. You have so much money to donate to strangers, but none to help out your own family?"
Ji Minghua chimed in, "That’s right, sister. I’m your own brother. Can’t you see how miserable our lives are? You could at least be a little nicer to us. We’re your family, after all. As your brother, I’m supposed to be the one to have your back."
Mother Ji, her eyes red, added, "Xiaosong, you just up and left all those years ago without a word. Do you have any idea how worried I was about you?"
The three of them continued their monologue, but Ji Xiaosong still refused to even look at them.
"Are you finished?"
Ji Xiaosong’s voice was cold. The three of them exchanged glances. This wasn’t going how they had imagined.
The old Ji Xiaosong, no matter how they tormented her, had always put family above everything else.
"If you’re finished, then it’s my turn. When I was born, Mom, you despised me for being a girl and refused to nurse me. It was the neighbor, Aunty, who fed me rice paste, one spoonful at a time. She’s the reason I survived."
"When I was a little older, I ate your leftovers. The vegetables I ate were ones I picked from the fields myself. Before I knew how to cook, I’d just eat raw vegetables in the fields and drink water from the river."
"The only reason I was able to go to school and finish college was because I got good grades and won all sorts of scholarships."
"You arranged my marriage to the Wang Family because Wang Zheng gave you a bride price of eighty-eight thousand. You didn’t care that his father had been to prison, or that he’d privately told you, Dad, that he wanted to ’use’ your daughter-in-law for himself, did you?"
"Dad, you’ve spent your life drinking, whoring, and gambling. And whenever you got drunk, you’d beat Mom and me."
"There isn’t a single patch of unblemished skin on my body, all thanks to the beatings you gave me since I was a child."
"I never had my own room at home. You always told me that daughters get married off eventually, so giving me my own room would just be a waste of space."
"But my brother, Ji Minghua, was coddled and doted on his entire life. If I ever did anything to make him the least bit unhappy, you would beat me."
Mr. Ji’s face flushed beet-red. He stiffened his neck and retorted, "It wasn’t that bad! I was just teaching you a lesson, making sure you understood the rules!"
Mother Ji started sobbing. "Xiaosong, I had no choice back then. The family was poor, how could I have worried about all that?"
Ji Minghua grew frantic and yelled, "Sister, you can’t say that! I was just a kid, I didn’t know any better! That’s all in the past!"
