When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal
Chapter 52: She Doesn’t Want the Scum Ex-Husband 12
Chapter 52: Chapter 52: She Doesn’t Want the Scum Ex-Husband 12
The four of them headed to Ji Huadan’s former residence. Meanwhile, Ji Huadan suddenly seemed to sense something. She looked toward Phoenix Splendor Hall and went inside.
After dismissing all the palace servants, she carefully retrieved an object wrapped in black cloth from a hidden compartment in her large, carved Parasol Wood bed.
Back at the Imperial Palace, the Phoenix King and his group had arrived at Ji Huadan’s former palace.
Feng Cangwu and the Phoenix King scanned every inch of the grounds with their Divine Sense, but they found nothing.
"There’s nothing. It seems we’ve wrongly accused Huadan."
The Phoenix King breathed a sigh of relief. He had been genuinely afraid that his niece would commit such a monstrous act.
His brother had only one daughter. If she had truly done it, he would have had no choice but to punish her severely.
Ji Xiaosong, however, felt it wasn’t that simple. She circled the palace and, in the central courtyard, spotted a pitch-black Parasol Tree that looked as if it had been struck by lightning.
"Father-King, why is there a dead tree in Ji Huadan’s courtyard?"
"Her father planted this tree with his own hands. On the day her parents died, it was struck by lightning. Huadan said she wanted to keep it to remember them by, so it was never removed."
Speaking of Ji Huadan’s parents, Ji Xiaosong dredged up some details from her body’s original memories. She only recalled that they died fighting the Demon Clan, at which time Ji Huadan was nearly a thousand years old.
In the Phoenix Clan, one is considered an adult at a thousand years old. Therefore, Ji Huadan had lost her parents while she was still a minor, and her personality had changed drastically ever since.
Feng Cangwu touched the tree trunk, his expression grave.
"There’s a trace of Demonic Qi here. I’m not sure if it’s because of the lightning strike. Anyone without my level of cultivation would be unable to detect it."
The Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix had absolute faith in Feng Cangwu’s words.
He was the Old Ancestor of the Phoenix Clan. No one cared more about the clan’s safety than he did.
The prosperity of the Phoenix Clan was one of his reasons for being.
Every clan had such an ancestor, and for the Phoenix Clan, that ancestor was Feng Cangwu.
"Husband, Huadan... she isn’t really involved with the Demon Clan, is she?" Queen Phoenix asked the Phoenix King uncertainly.
The Phoenix King gritted his teeth and said in a low voice, "Bring her here. We’ll know once we question her."
Feng Cangwu, however, rejected this plan.
"Even if we bring her here, it will be difficult to learn the truth for now. It’s just like when we had the blood-soaked clansman testify. As long as she adamantly denies everything, we have no way to convict her."
Ji Xiaosong said indignantly, "Are we just going to let her continue to do as she pleases? She’s married into the Xu Family now, and I don’t think they’re good people either. A Red Phoenix and an Orange Phoenix actually produced a Yellow Phoenix. That’s never happened before in the Phoenix Clan."
The Phoenix King frowned, thought for a moment, and then said, "What do you propose, then? We can’t just let it be."
Looking at the dead tree, Feng Cangwu said calmly, "We need to plan for the long term and find more evidence. Since this tree has Demonic Qi on it, we can start here. Let’s investigate if there’s more to what happened all those years ago."
Ji Xiaosong added, "I think my husband is right. We might find a clue in the cause of Ji Huadan’s parents’ death."
Queen Phoenix said worriedly, "But if this is mishandled, I’m afraid it will cause turmoil within the clan."
"For the peace of the Phoenix Clan, we must investigate this thoroughly, despite the risks. My younger brother and sister-in-law had already managed to retreat safely from the front lines against the Demon Clan, but then Huadan was taken hostage by a High-level demon. To save her, they fell into a Demon Clan trap and were killed. After that, the trauma caused Huadan to lose all of her previous memories."
The Phoenix King’s explanation only made Ji Xiaosong more puzzled.
"Then is the Ji Huadan of today the same person she was before?"
"Of course she is."
The Phoenix King looked at Ji Xiaosong and continued, "We of the Phoenix Clan, especially those connected by blood, can sense whether someone has been possessed. If it weren’t the original person, we would be able to tell quickly."
This made Ji Xiaosong scoff internally. ’If that method really worked, how could the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix not recognize that I’m not the original person?’
Of course, she couldn’t say that out loud, but her suspicions about Ji Huadan deepened.
Having found nothing on their trip today, the group could only leave.
Before leaving, Feng Cangwu left a trace of his Divine Sense on the dead tree.
This trace of Divine Sense was so finely divided as to be unnoticeable. No one with a lower cultivation level than his would be able to detect it.
Back in their chambers, Ji Xiaosong was still sulking.
But when she saw her daughter sleeping soundly in a nest made of Parasol Tree branches and leaves, her mood softened considerably.
"Song, don’t dwell on these bewildering matters. Leave it to me. I’ll handle it."
Feng Cangwu pulled Ji Xiaosong into his arms. Thanks to the proper care she’d received during her pregnancy, her body had long since recovered to its former state. It would be no problem at all for her to conceive another egg.
"Of course I trust you, Husband, but we have to act quickly. I don’t want any more innocent people to die."
"When I was near Ji Huadan today, I left a Divine Sense imprint on her. If she has another murderous thought, I will sense it immediately."
Feng Cangwu gazed at Ji Xiaosong, his eyes full of deep affection and tenderness. He slowly leaned in and said softly, "Song, don’t worry. Trust me."
Ji Xiaosong was about to speak, but Feng Cangwu gently pressed a finger to her lips. "Don’t think about it anymore, hm?" he continued.
That one "hm?" made Ji Xiaosong’s heart flutter. No matter how many times she heard it, she was still captivated.
Seeing Ji Xiaosong still frowning, Feng Cangwu could no longer restrain himself. He pulled her into his embrace and lowered his head, sealing her lips with a kiss.
After a long moment, Feng Cangwu released her. Seeing her flushed cheeks and dazed eyes, a smile touched his lips. "There. No more letting your mind wander."
"Mmm..."
Feng Cangwu glanced at his soundly sleeping daughter and placed a Barrier around her.
Then, he scooped up Ji Xiaosong and flew to the Parasol Tree Forest of Songyu Palace.
"Song, this place is perfect for tonight."
Watching as Feng Cangwu’s robes gradually fell away, Ji Xiaosong’s face instantly turned red.
"Th-this..."
Before she could finish, her words were lost amidst the sound of the sighing wind.
...
「Meanwhile.」
At the Xu Mansion, the sighing of the wind did not cease all night, its sound echoing around the rafters.
One was plotting a grand undertaking, while the other thought of using this opportunity to erase a past humiliation.
For an entire month, Ji Huadan had no mind for anything else.
She and Xu Yang had only one goal: to produce a High-level heir as soon as possible.
Feng Fan Yin, under the care of her family, had long since taken human form and learned to speak.
Although she had the appearance of a one-year-old toddler, her charming and adorable figure would make anyone who saw her break into a smile.
She hadn’t forgotten that she had nearly been corrupted by Demonic Qi while still an egg. Not having seen that person for a month didn’t mean she would forget.
The next time she saw that person, Feng Fan Yin swore, she would cut them into a thousand pieces!
Every single member of the Demon Clan was her mortal enemy!
She had thought such an opportunity would be hard to find. Unexpectedly, a month later, a palace servant reported that Ji Huadan was pregnant again. This time was different—she was carrying two eggs.
To avoid a repeat of the unpleasantness from the last family banquet, the Phoenix King invited them to Phoenix Splendor Hall.
