Chapter 43: She’s Done with the Scumbag Ex-Husband 3
Chapter 43: Chapter 43: She’s Done with the Scumbag Ex-Husband 3
Feng Cangwu quietly watched Ji Xiaosong. His fingers formed a mantra, and his Spiritual Power stirred in response.
In just a moment, a low hiss echoed from where Ji Xiaosong stood. A gigantic, two-headed python erupted from the ground. Its body was covered in hard scales that gave off a dark glow, and its eyes shone with a ferocious red light.
Ji Xiaosong’s heart clenched, but she quickly calmed herself.
She spread her wings and shot into the air, trying to evade the python’s surprise attack.
However, the python was incredibly fast. One of its heads lunged forward and viciously bit down on Ji Xiaosong’s wing.
Ji Xiaosong couldn’t dodge in time. The python’s fangs sank into her wing, and blood spurted out instantly.
The pain made Ji Xiaosong gasp, but her eyes only grew more resolute.
She gritted her teeth against the searing pain and spewed raging flames from her mouth, aiming straight for the python’s head.
The python cried out in pain and released its grip. Ji Xiaosong seized the opportunity to break free.
But the python wouldn’t give up so easily. Both heads spat black venom simultaneously. Ji Xiaosong dodged rapidly in mid-air as the venom splattered onto the ground, making a corrosive SIZZLING sound.
This truly startled Ji Xiaosong, but she knew that constantly dodging was not a solution.
She watched for her chance and, during a lull in the python’s assault, shot like lightning toward its vital spot.
But the python seemed prepared. Its thick tail whipped around and slapped Ji Xiaosong heavily to the ground.
Ji Xiaosong felt as if her organs had been rearranged, and she coughed up a mouthful of blood.
But she forced herself back to her feet and took to the air again, her entire body erupting in even hotter flames, as if she intended to incinerate everything.
Intimidated by this display, the python flinched back slightly.
Ji Xiaosong seized this momentary opportunity. With thunderous momentum, she charged the python’s vital spot, plunging her sharp talons deep into it and tearing it apart with all her might.
As the python collapsed, Ji Xiaosong, exhausted, crumpled to the ground, gasping for breath.
Immediately after, sinister howls rose from all around. Dozens of Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves closed in from every direction.
These Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves were agile, and their eyes glinted with an eerie blue light.
Ji Xiaosong gritted her teeth and struggled back to her feet.
’Queen Phoenix said the Lingwu Secret Realm was fraught with danger. Now I see what she meant.’
’But I’ve come this far. How can I possibly retreat?’
At that moment, the Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves swarmed her. Ji Xiaosong beat her wings, kicking up a furious gale that temporarily halted their advance.
But the Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves were extremely cunning. They split into several waves and attacked Ji Xiaosong from different directions.
One Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolf caught her off guard and bit her leg. Ji Xiaosong roared in anger and kicked it away.
But more Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves seized the opening to pounce, and the number of wounds on Ji Xiaosong’s body grew.
’If I keep fighting like this, I’ll die here sooner or later.’
Ji Xiaosong fiercely gritted her teeth and unleashed all her remaining Spiritual Power. The flames covering her body surged outward, forming a massive ring of fire that forced the Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves back for the moment.
She identified the wolves’ weaknesses and picked them off one by one, each attack precise and lethal.
After a brutal battle, Ji Xiaosong finally defeated all the Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves.
By now, she was covered in wounds and on the verge of collapse.
Seeing this, Feng Cangwu nodded slightly, and the mantra his hands formed changed again.
’My future child is destined to be a dominant force,’ he thought. ’As their mother, she absolutely cannot be a helpless parasite, only capable of clinging to others and offering no benefit to the child.’
’Members of the Phoenix Clan have long lifespans, so parents accompany their children for a very long time.’
’If the child’s mother is too weak and incompetent, she will only become a burden on their path to supremacy. I will not allow such a situation to occur.’
Meanwhile, Ji Xiaosong lay collapsed on the ground, exhausted and gasping for air. She still tried to force herself up, intending to at least fly to a Parasol Tree to avoid any other potential dangers.
Just then, a gentle golden light suddenly welled up around her, enveloping her body like a silken veil.
Ji Xiaosong felt a warm, powerful energy slowly seeping into her body. Wherever it passed, her wounds healed at a visible rate.
The marks from the python’s bite and the gashes from the Deceitful Shadow Ghost Wolves quickly closed, scabbed over, and fell away, leaving behind new skin as smooth as before.
Even her depleted Spiritual Power rapidly replenished under the nourishment of this mysterious force, filling her meridians.
Ji Xiaosong shook her fiery red wings, surprised to find she was completely healed.
Her once-dull feathers regained their brilliant luster.
’If I still don’t realize this was a test from Feng Cangwu, I must be a complete fool.’
’It seems Queen Phoenix’s worries weren’t unfounded after all.’
’Now that my wounds are all healed, does this mean I’ve passed the test?’
As Ji Xiaosong was pondering this, Feng Cangwu’s magnetic voice sounded in her ear, "Not bad, little one."
The moment he finished speaking, Ji Xiaosong felt an invisible force lift her. The scene before her eyes shifted in an instant. When her vision cleared, she found herself outside Qingyu Hall.
"Come in."
Ji Xiaosong took a deep breath to compose herself and stepped into Qingyu Hall.
Inside the hall, Feng Cangwu stood with his hands behind his back. His crimson, flame-colored robes fluttered in a gentle breeze, accentuating his graceful and elegant demeanor.
"The Phoenix Clan places great importance on bloodline. Therefore, the mother of my child cannot be an incompetent person. Do you understand?"
"Does that mean I passed the test just now?"
"Yes."
"Your character is resilient, and your strength is considerable. You also possess good fortune and merit, so I assume you are not one to cause trouble. You are suitable to be the mother of my child. From now on, you will live here in Qingyu Hall, and I will help you increase your strength."
Feng Cangwu turned slightly to look at Ji Xiaosong and said, "Follow me."
With that, he started walking toward the inner hall.
Ji Xiaosong hurried to keep up with Feng Cangwu’s pace.
After passing through several corridors, Feng Cangwu stopped in front of a room made from a Parasol Tree.
He gently pushed open the door, revealing an elegantly and exquisitely furnished interior.
A faint scent of golden camellia filled the room. Several pots of rare Spirit Plants were placed by the window, and sunlight streamed through the lattice, casting mottled patterns of light and shadow on the floor.
Feng Cangwu turned his head to look at Ji Xiaosong and said, "From now on, you and I will live here together."
Ji Xiaosong stared at the Jade Bed, stunned. "There’s... only one bed?"
"Of course. We will form a Contract in the future. Are you suggesting we should sleep in separate beds?"
Although Feng Cangwu had never formed a Contract with anyone before, his millennia of existence had taught him that a husband and wife should not sleep apart.
Hearing this, Ji Xiaosong’s face instantly flushed red. She pouted, "You certainly don’t mince words."
"It’s common sense. Why shouldn’t it be said?" The corners of Feng Cangwu’s mouth lifted slightly, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
’Fine, I’m the one being teased here.’
Ji Xiaosong bit her lip and said no more.
Seeing her reaction, Feng Cangwu gently took her hand and said, "Don’t be shy. We have a long future ahead of us."
Ji Xiaosong felt a warmth spreading from his hand, a heat that seemed to travel up her arm and straight into her heart, making it beat uncontrollably faster.
His palm was broad and strong, enveloping her small hand completely and giving her an unprecedented sense of security.
She glanced up at Feng Cangwu, whose handsome face seemed especially gentle at that moment. Ji Xiaosong’s cheeks flushed red again, and her heart fluttered wildly, like a trapped fawn.
’This old man really knows how to sweet-talk someone!’
For the entire day, Ji Xiaosong followed Feng Cangwu, getting a quick tour of Qingyu Hall.
When night fell, the thought of sleeping in the same bed made two little figures appear in her mind, arguing fiercely.
One little figure stood with its hands on its hips, saying aggressively, "Take him down tonight! It’s now or never!"
The other little figure waved its hands frantically, shouting anxiously, "No, no, absolutely not! Things are moving way too fast! Being so rash will definitely ruin everything!"
Ji Xiaosong’s brow furrowed, her thoughts a tangled mess.
