Chapter 148: Chapter 145: The Apocalyptic Bigshot Arrives 22
Snow fell heavily outside while inside, Ji Xiaosong and her teammates were eating hotpot.
After becoming Superpower Users, their daily food requirement was several times greater than before.
A steaming hotpot sat in the center of a round table laden with all sorts of ingredients.
An Ran was the first to pick up her chopsticks. She swished a tender slice of beef in the boiling red chili oil, quickly pulled it out, coated it in a thick layer of sesame sauce, and popped it into her mouth.
"Ah! I wouldn’t trade this life even to be an Immortal!"
Zhang Yu, sitting opposite her, had an astonishing appetite. He picked up an entire plate of mutton and dumped it all into the pot, drawing gasps from everyone around.
"I can’t wait to cook it slice by slice! My stomach’s been protesting for a while now!"
Just then, An Ran gave a small wave of her hand, and the soup base in the pot began to boil even more violently. The meatballs, which would have needed a few more minutes, were instantly cooked through and floated to the surface.
"Haha, with me around, everyone can eat faster!" Xiao Mei winked playfully.
It was an eye-opener for Ji Xiaosong. It was the first time she realized a Water Ability could be used like that.
The meal lasted over an hour, and everyone was finally about seventy percent full.
Ji Xiaosong then set out all kinds of fruits and desserts on a table by the floor-to-ceiling window. Everyone sat in a row, watching the blizzard rage outside.
"Xiaosong, if this snow keeps up, the people on the first and second floors will probably be completely buried."
An Ran said with a worried expression as she bit into a lady finger banana.
Ji Xiaosong nodded. "That’s true. If we tried to organize everyone to shovel snow right now, everyone except those with a Fire Ability would probably end up a frozen, snotty mess."
She thought for a moment, then mobilized the Spiritual Power within her. A faint blue light enveloped her body, and wisps of water vapor began to gather around her.
The Spiritual Power flowing from her fingertips spread out like a vast net, rapidly expanding across the entire city.
As Ji Xiaosong cast her Spell, the snow piled on rooftops, windowsills, and the sides of roads began to slowly flow, as if pushed by countless invisible hands.
"Everyone, look! What’s going on?"
Zhang Yu shouted, pointing out the window in surprise.
Everyone’s gaze turned to the window. They saw the snow on the streets converging, gradually forming rivers of snow that rushed toward the city’s storm drains.
Just like that, all the snow in South City slowly gathered into the rivers before sliding out to sea.
Gu Lin watched Ji Xiaosong, noticing her hands tracing complex runes in the air. He guessed that she was the one behind what was happening.
He sat quietly to the side, his gaze fixed on Ji Xiaosong as ripples spread through his heart.
’His little girl,’ he thought, ’always so kind and so powerful.’
Meanwhile, survivors all across South City were in shock.
Uncle Li, who lived on the first floor, had been staring worriedly at the waist-deep snow outside his window. ’How am I supposed to get out now?’ he’d been thinking. ’I can’t collect supplies. I’m not going to make it.’
When he saw the snow rapidly recede as if by magic, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped. The cane in his hand fell to the floor without him even noticing.
"Wh-what’s happening?"
He muttered to himself, then quickly opened his door. Seeing the perfectly clear street, he was so moved his eyes turned red. He kept repeating, "The heavens have answered!"
Wang Yue, a young mother, was looking out the window while holding her child, worried about the further inconveniences the heavy snow would bring to their lives.
When she saw the snow miraculously flowing toward the drains, she cried out in pleasant surprise, "Sweetheart, look! The snow is running away by itself!"
The child, infected by their mother’s excitement, clapped their little hands and giggled.
Wang Yue’s heart filled with gratitude. Although she didn’t know who was behind it all, she would never forget this timely act of kindness.
A group of Superpower Users had gathered in a plaza, discussing how to use their respective abilities to help the citizens shovel snow.
When they saw the snow begin to move, they couldn’t help but show expressions of awe. They guessed it was probably the work of someone from Yongfeng Base.
After all, no one else possessed that level of power.
One of the Wind Ability Users sighed in admiration. "What level of ability do the people from Yongfeng Base have? We’re still here worrying about it, and they’ve already solved the entire city’s snow problem with ease."
Another, an Earth Ability User, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it looks like we need to work on improving ourselves, or we won’t be able to keep up with them."
Ji Xiaosong knew nothing of this; she was simply doing what she could.
It was snowing across the entire country, and Ji Xiaosong couldn’t help but worry.
The snow in South City had been cleared, but what about the other cities?
Was there a way to help other Superpower Users improve their abilities so that everyone could face crises together, instead of relying on just her small group?
Ji Xiaosong frowned in thought as she gazed out the window.
Gu Lin was casually peeling a dekopon. He glanced up at Ji Xiaosong, a nonchalant glint in his dark eyes, and broke off a segment with his slender fingers, holding it to her lips. His voice was gentle as he asked softly, "Song, what are you thinking about?"
Ji Xiaosong’s brow was slightly furrowed, her gaze fixed on the distance. She gently bit into the citrus segment, and its sweet and sour juice burst on her tongue, but it did nothing to dispel the worries filling her heart.
"I’m trying to figure out how to improve the abilities of Superpower Users. It’s been almost two months since the apocalypse began, but no one’s strength has really changed much. If this continues, I’m afraid we won’t be able to handle stronger zombies or mutated beasts in the future."
"Have you considered the Crystal Cores inside the zombies? I saw you use them to set up a formation before, so I assume they must contain energy."
Hearing Gu Lin’s words, the others immediately gathered around.
Zhang Yu’s face was alight with excitement. "That’s right, Xiaosong! Have you tried absorbing the Crystal Cores from zombies? We killed tens of millions of zombies back in Chenming City, and we have countless Crystal Cores saved up. If they’re actually useful, then we’ll have a path forward."
An Ran crouched down, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Ji Xiaosong.
"Yes, yes, yes, Xiaosong! How about I try absorbing the energy from a zombie Crystal Core first?"
Ji Xiaosong didn’t reply. Instead, she took out a Crystal Core from a Wood Ability zombie from her storage space and prepared to examine it closely.
She placed the zombie Crystal Core in her palm and circulated her Spiritual Power, constructing a fine mesh of it around the core to sense the energy within.
The surface of the Crystal Core began to emit a faint, ethereal glow. Under the illumination of her Spiritual Power, its internal structure gradually became clear.
Suddenly, a faint wisp of black gas seeped out from deep within the Crystal Core. It snaked across the surface like a phantom in the night.
"Everyone, look! There’s a black gas inside this Crystal Core!"
Ji Xiaosong gasped softly, her gaze locked on the strange wisp of gas.
Hearing this, everyone crowded closer, their faces filled with surprise and curiosity.
"This black gas looks sinister. You don’t think it’s dangerous, do you?" An Ran frowned, a trace of worry in her eyes.
But Zhang Yu was excited. He rubbed his hands together and said, "Who cares! Maybe this is the key to getting stronger!"
Ji Xiaosong ignored their debate. She focused her concentration, shaping her Spiritual Power into an invisible blade. Carefully, she cut into the Crystal Core, attempting to separate the black gas from the energy it contained.
