"You absorbed my memories of that moment didn’t you?"

There was a long pause and I almost thought that it would not answer until there was a very soft, almost inaudible voice coming from the figure.

"Yes... Mama... I’m sowwee..."

I thought so...

Under normal circumstances, my memories should be untouchable. More specifically, my mind should be completely untouchable.

But because I’m feeding the egg my mana, I’ve opened a link to the egg itself and it most likely latched onto that link between us and took something else aside from just my mana.

I lowered myself so that I was at eye level with the figure, trying to make myself look as non confrontational as possible.

"Could I ask why?"

There was another pause before the figure looked like it was poking its fingers together, as though it was a kid that was being reprimanded by their parent... Which I suppose was quite close to what was happening here.

The figure fidgeted for a moment before finally speaking, "I... I don’t want... Mama to hate me..."

I actually felt my heart strings plucked a little from that voice that sounded incredibly vulnerable.

"Why would you think I’ll hate you?"

"I... I hurt Mama... I’m... I’m scared Mama will hate me... If you remember how I hurt you..."

I couldn’t help but reach out and pat its head, "It’s alright... That’s before you became an egg right? That’s not you. This is the real you right now. That’s a completely different version of you. I won’t hold what that version of you did against you."

It looked up at me, or at least I think it was looking up at me since it doesn’t really have any facial features to begin with... But I could sense an emotion that was akin to hope wafting from it.

"Rea... Really, Mama?" It asked.

I giggled, "Ehehe~ I mean... I’m still standing here right? How bad could it be? And at the end, I’m still the one that’s carrying you around and I’m pretty sure that I still decided to try and hatch you even despite what you did, didn’t I? And you didn’t absorb my memories back then? Which means that even when I remembered what happened, I chose to keep you anyway. That should say something, right?"

The figure shuddered under my head patting, "Mama... Mama doesn’t hate me?"

"Of course not."

"Mama... Mama won’t eat me for... Hurting Mama?"

I actually almost chortled at that since I remember Odeta expecting me to do just that as well. Why is this even an option?

"No, I’m not going to eat you," I assured it.

The figure bounced a little in clear excitement, "Mama won’t eat me! Yayyy!"

How is it able to appear this cute despite just being a figure of light?

I gave it another pat on the head again, "So... Did you take anything else from Mama?"

Ah... Looks like I’m already accepting my own role as its mother now... Whatever, I guess I can deal with it.

The figure quickly shook its head, "No! I didn’t, Mama! Only that! I... I don’t want Mama to hate me more!"

"Then... Are you able to return those memories to me?"

The figure of light poked its fingers together again, clearly finding the idea a little intimidating after having basically betrayed me a little in this aspect.

I could have just continued my life without regaining these memories but I figured that this was also a small test to see if it would own up to its mistakes and also correct the mistakes it made.

Because if it showed that it had no intention of correcting itself, then that might make me more wary of what it might do in the future since this would show that it was self-serving in nature.

Eventually, it nodded its head, "I... I can do it, Mama... Ummm... If... If Mama decides... Not to hatch me afterwards... Ummm... I will understand..."

Ugh... Seriously, how can it be this cute?

The figure then stepped back and stretched out its arms towards me, prompting a ball of light to appear from its chest before floating over towards me and disappearing into my body.

I shuddered as a tingle went down my spine and a scene started playing itself in my mind.

I saw the Hell Dragon in front of me, the giant creature turning its gaze and letting loose its killing intent that petrified almost my entire party.

But just as I was steeling myself to throw the stone in my hand, the dragon turned back and a tear opened in space, allowing a dragon that was pure white in colour to stomp down on the Hell Dragon, killing it with a single claw.

I remembered looking up at it and using [Screened] to know it was several times stronger than the Hell Dragon and its stats were even continuously being raised every second that passed.

One single look from the dragon and my entire party was down on their knees, with myself being the sole exception thanks to my boons.

I then took the chance to let myself fall through a portal to appear above it, aiming to get its attention off my girls and also to use the stone that was already in my hand to capture it.

But it reacted faster than I thought it could and I was shot through the heart, making it understandable why it would think I would blame it for this.

Good thing I didn’t give it a name yet thinking it’s a Hell Dragon or else the name I came up with might have been bad.

Then I remember things fading to black for me and the next thing I remember was waking up later and then finding the egg in its place.

So that’s the memory I forgot...

It’s... Err... Not so bad? I mean... I don’t really see any reason why it would be scared I would hate it because of this though?

I guess it was just paranoid that I would remember the pain and then be reminded of that same pain every time I saw it in the future so it figured that the best way to proceed was just to remove my memory of the entire thing altogether.

You silly dragon, I’ve already died once before, I am also quite well acquainted with Death too so there’s no need to worry about that~

It was really worrying about something unnecessary huh?

I looked back down at the figure of light that was looking like it was trying its best to shrink itself as small as possible, most likely because it thought that once I regained those memories, I would start lashing out at it and then cast it aside or something.

I reached out and patted its head, "There, see? Everything’s ok."

Feeling my hand patting on its head, it finally relaxed when it realised I wasn’t going to hit it or abandon it because of the restored memories.

"Mama... Really doesn’t hate me?" It asked, even while it was leaning its head against my palm to enjoy the feeling of the head pat.

"Don’t worry. I really don’t. Like I said, that version of you is different from this version of you right now. I don’t hold what that version of you has done against you."

Honestly, I’m more surprised that it even remembered what happened before it was hit with the stone. I was thinking that the stone will just transform them completely where their past existence would be wiped from their memories and their new memories would only begin from the moment they were transformed.

That’s why I was already prepared for this and had no problems just forgetting what she had done before I hit her with the stone.

Hearing my words, I could feel relief settle over the figure before it finally relaxed completely, pushing her head against my palm to further melt into the head pat.

I chuckled, "You don’t need to worry, alright? I’ve already decided to hatch you so... If there’s any other worries you might have, you can talk to me about it. There’s no need to do such things ok?"

"Uuuu... Yes, Mama!"

"Well on that note, is there anything that you might be worried about? Anything you might want to ask me?"

There was a pause as the figure seemed to think about my question for a moment before it shook its head.

"I’m happy that Mama is happy! As long as Mama is happy, I’m happy!"

So cute...

Ok, ok~ I’ll make sure to keep filling you with mana so that you can hatch safely~

Anyway, I suppose I should return back to the ’real’ world now and assure my professor that this emergency wasn’t really that serious and let my girls know that I had already dealt with it.

...

My girls aren’t going to be pissed at the egg about this memory thing and try to smash it for doing that to me, are they? Because I know how overprotective they can get...

Ughh... I suppose I will just tell them that it’s just an accident or something...

I have to protect my egg, ok?!
