Chapter 1212: Knock, Knock, Execution Time
Chapter 1212: Knock, Knock, Execution Time
I looked up at the mansion behind the wooden gates that were in front of me.
It was built like those Japanese manors where they had the white wall surrounding it and a wooden gate as an entrance with gardens in front of the manor itself.
Yes, it’s really fancy.
“He certainly has a big house huh… Being a minister here must be very lucrative,” I mused.
The prince visibly clenched his jaw and I could already tell that it probably wasn’t the case and the fact that this family had enough money to purchase such a big place for themselves should have been a sign that they were illegitimate from the start.
Well, I guess hindsight is always twenty-twenty.
I pretended not to notice and simply nodded at him, “So how do you want to do this? Do we knock or something?”
He pulled out his sword, “No. We go right in and demand their entire family come out and die. Anyone who resists will be slaughtered.”
I turned to frown at him, “Eh? Wait… Just like that? I thought we might be confronting them about this first? Like maybe round them up and throw them in front of the King and Queen to be judged or something?”
Prince Hisami turned to raise an eyebrow at me, “Don’t we already have evidence that these people are guilty?”
“We do…”
“Then what’s the problem? We already know that they’re guilty so we’re just dealing out justice right now, aren’t we?”
“Is this how things are done here? Sorry, but I’m not familiar with how the justice system works. I was under the impression that they would at least face a trial or something…”
“Lady Aster. We are the trial they are facing. The verdict has already been passed by me, they are guilty. And I am giving them a chance to offer themselves to die on their own to at least reclaim some of their honour or they can just be cut down like the honourless traitors they are.”
Ok… So basically the Royal Family are the judge, jury and executioner in this country… Good to know.
“Would the population react negatively to you leading a bunch of Mercenaries into a noble family’s house and slaughtering the entire family? I would think that some of the nobles would push back against the Royal Family going around slaughtering them…”
He scoffed, “We have all the evidence that labels them as guilty already, why would they be upset about this?”
Huh… I guess this is just the norm here… Alright then.
Since he had already said this much, I guess we don’t need to worry about this then.
“In that case, after you, Prince Hisami.”
He braced himself before lifting up his foot to kick on the door, sending the entire wooden door flying into the garden and smashing somewhere inside.
With such an explosive entrance, there was no way the guards overseeing the manor wouldn’t notice so the moment we stepped past the gates, shouts of alarm were already echoing around the manor.
The prince showed no hesitation and just started strolling through the garden and up towards the manor, stepping past the broken remains of the gate’s door that was half buried in the pond.
I have to say though, this place does look fancy. They had a pond with a small bridge going over it and even a gazebo near one of the pond’s edge.
It wasn’t as big as the Nilm Family’s manor of course but they certainly knew how to make use of the space… And the Creas they no doubt gained through illicit means.
We got to the bridge that went over the pond before several guards appeared to surround us, their weapons drawn.
“Who dares enter the manor of the Umake Family so brazenly?! Do you know who you are trying to mess with?!” One of the guards shouted.
The prince turned to glare at him and his demeanour instantly changed.
“Yo… Your Highness… What… What are you doing here?” The guard stammered.
Prince Hisami tapped his sword on the ground, “Tell your family head to gather everyone in front of the house right now. And I mean everyone. Anyone who disobeys will be cut down.”
Err… I dunno about that… Because I think the fact that you came in with your sword already drawn meant that you’re prepared to execute them already so the threat of killing them if they don’t show up seemed a little hollow to me…
But hey, what do I know? This is their country and politics.
The guards looked at each other and hesitated before their leader quickly sheathed his weapon and bowed to the prince, bending at a perfect ninety degree angle at his waist.
“I will inform the family head immediately, your Highness! Would you like to wait for them in the sitting room instead? It would be inappropriate for someone of your stature to be–”
“No need. Don’t waste my time. Go and get them to the front of the manor right now,” Prince Hisami interrupted with a wave of his hand.
The guards quickly scattered and we continued our stroll towards the manor.
Even from here, I could see that there was a flurry of activity inside the manor though I’m not sure if it was a response to the summons of the prince or they were still panicking about the sudden noise at the gate.
By the time we reached the front of the manor, there were already a handful of people standing there and waiting for us, all of them with their heads bowed as they waited for us to approach them.
I’m guessing those people must be the family members of the minister.
Barely a few minutes had passed since Prince Hisami told the guards to go gather these people so for them to already be there must mean they literally dropped everything they were doing just to get there.
The prince didn’t seem surprised to see them, as if this was a sight he was already used to and just continued walking towards them.
Several of the guards were there as well and while they didn’t dare to look at Prince Hisami directly, they were all clearly shooting me and my girls looks of curiosity wondering who we were to be accompanying the prince.
I already informed him ahead of time that under no circumstances was he to reveal my identity though he was free to reveal where the information came from if he needed to.
He moved up to the line of bowing nobles and frowned, “Where is everyone else? This can’t be everyone?”
The Nekomata closest to him bowed a little lower, “Yo… Your Highness… They are still on their way. We… We were not aware that you would be visiting us, Your Highness… If we had known ahead of time that you were coming, we would have definitely held a grand welcome for you!”
Prince Hisami completely ignored his words and turned to the manor, “Where is your family head? Where is minister Nanba?”
“He… He is on his way, Your Highness… I’m afraid that you have caught us at a rather awkward time.”
The prince huffed, “Awkward? What could all of you be doing to make it awkward to receive me?”
“Awkward because… You served yourself on a platter for us! Long live the Wanderer’s Guides!!”
The guy who had been bowing his head suddenly charged towards the prince, pulling out a sword that he had been using his body to hide when he was bowing his head.
I thought about rushing to the aid of the prince but realised there was no need to as he had been staring at the guy before he lunged as though he had already expected something like that to happen.
I watched as the prince casually lifted up his sword to bat away the blade the other guy had attempted to stab him with before he slashed his sword at the guy’s arms, slicing them clean off.
The guy stumbled forward a step only to receive a kick in the face by the prince, sending him flying back to skid on the ground and back to where he had come from.
I was expecting the others to also join in and attack the prince but all of them were looking at the guy in surprise like they didn’t expect this guy to rush at the prince like that.
Prince Hisami turned back to the manor, “Minister Nanba!! You better come out right this instant!!”
There was a pause and everyone seemed to be looking at the manor to see if there was any reaction coming from it.
I had also turned my attention there and was waiting for something to happen when I spotted movement out of the corner of my eye.
I spun around just as one of the guards lunged at me, only for Delmare to intercept the attack with her rapier and shoving him back.
That seemed to be the signal as everyone else also drew their weapons, surrounding us.
Great… Maybe we should have just knocked, Prince Hisami…
