Chapter 1163: When You Have A Bureaucracy
Chapter 1163: When You Have A Bureaucracy
Since the Mahun couple were still doing it, I had some time to kill after admiring the castle so I decided to approach the Yoblin that was fiddling with her gadget.
“Hello~”
She didn’t even look up at me nor acknowledge me and just continued to fiddle with the gadget in her hands.
Thinking that she might not have heard me and was fully concentrating on what she had in her hands, I stood there for a while to see if there might be a moment I could call out to her again.
But after a minute, she stopped and turned to me with a frown on her face, “What?!”
I jumped a little, not expecting the hostility from her.
“Err… I just thought that it would be nice to converse since we might be here for a while?”
She turned back to the thing in her hands, “If you’re trying to fuck me, I’m not interested. Go join those two insatiable sex Mahuns if you want instead.”
“Erm… That’s not why I called out to you… I just wanted to talk. You know… Since it’s my first time in this city and all, I thought it might be nice to hear what other people thought of the place.”
“I hate it. It sucks. Everyone is just thinking about sex all the time,” She answered crassly.
Eh?
I tilted my head at her, “In that case… Why do you even join this tour? I thought that you joined this tour because you found this city interesting and wanted to learn more about it?”
She stopped and turned to narrow her eyes at me, “Are you… Serious?”
“I’m really not sure what’s wrong?”
She stared at me for a while more before she seemed to remember something, “Ah… Right… You did mention that this was your first time here as well… I forgot. Sorry.”
“Err… Thank you? I’m not sure what does that have to do with anything though?”
She gestured in the direction of where Miyu was seated by the path, the Nekomata’s hand sliding back and forth in between her legs unashamedly while watching the Mahun couple continue their love making.
“If you haven’t realised, this is the only way for outsiders to get up to the upper district of the city. There are no other permits that would allow you to walk through here.”
“I… Fail to see the problem? Isn’t this supposed to be a security thing?”
She sighed exasperatedly, “Which means… If there’s a specific store that only exist in the upper district and nowhere else, the only way for outsiders to get to that shop is to participate in this little farce and waste all that time listening to these locals talk about the same trees, the same streets, the same customs and the same castle over and over again.”
“Ah… There’s no other way for others to just… Go visit the shops in this district?”
“None at all. This place has one of the most inefficient and frustratingly complicated rules I have had the displeasure of visiting.”
“I dunno… This is all so that the city is safe right? If they just let anyone visit the upper district, criminals might take advantage of that and cause chaos. And if they close it off completely, then neither you nor I would be able to walk in here either.”
She huffed, “Hmph… Then why can’t they just open up that section of the upper district or even create a new permit that allows for people to just go to the store instead of having to put up with these tourists every single time? I have to waste time here following you all even though I’ve been through this multiple times and have absolutely no interest in this!”
Geez… She definitely sounds pissed…
Though I guess it’s understandable that she feels frustrated that she has to keep doing this over and over again just to visit a specific store.
“Have you tried suggesting they implement something to… I don’t know… Add a specific permit to let people in specifically for the shops and nothing else?”
“Hmph. Of course I have. Their answer to me was that if I wanted to come in, I need to take the time to appreciate and feel thankful for their culture and history first before I’m allowed to step into this place. If anything, this is just making me hate it even more but when I told them that, they just kicked me out.”
“Err… Yeah… I mean… You don’t just go to someone else’s home and tell them their home sucks and don’t expect them to do something in retaliation you know?”
“Like I care what they think. My time is precious too! I could be back at my workshop making stuff instead of being here!”
I decided to change the topic since it clearly looks like this was a rather sore spot for her and I wouldn’t want any guards or even Miyu to take offense at her and throw us both out.
“Speaking of which… What are you doing there?” I asked, gesturing to the thing in her hands.
She looked down at her gadget, “This? Something that is beyond your understanding.”
Well fine, sorry for asking then.
It was clear she really did not want to talk so I decided to stop trying.
Just in time as well since loud screams of pleasure came from where the couple was and I think they were finally finished.
They spent a moment more to clean up before we finally moved on from here, much to the relief of the Yoblin girl.
Miyu led us back towards the direction of the shops and along the way, I decided to ask for her point of view as well.
“Miyu? Why isn’t there a specific permit to allow visitors to only specifically visit the stores in the upper district?”
She smiled at my question, “Oh, that’s simple~ You see, being allowed in here is a privilege that we give to visitors and not a right. If the visitors are unable to accept such a thing, then there’s no need for us to accommodate them you see~”
I’m half sure what she just said was something that was rehearsed and repeated as part of a script that all the guides need to remember and recite to any visitor who asked.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the Yoblin rolling her eyes and looking away, clearly not buying whatever Miyu just said.
Sorry girl, but I’m going to have to agree with Miyu here… Although I believe the fact I think so stems partly from the fact that I’m an Off-Worlder so I already feel like I’m a visitor in this entire World and not just this city anyway.
Just like how I expect people to abide by my house rules when they visit my home, I would abide by theirs when I visit their home too.
What are my house rules? Ehehehe~ I’m very glad you asked!
The first is that all sweets are mine! The second is that you don’t touch my lovers! It’s so simple~
“Here we are~ This is the commercial part of the upper district~” Miyu announced, stopping at the edge of the street that acted as the entrance to where the shops began. “We will spend about an hour here so feel free to take a look around and we will meet back again at the gate~ Try not to be late and we have to leave together or you will be treated as a runaway and the guards will be dispatched to arrest you~”
She even said the last part cheerfully as if it wasn’t even a masked threat.
Miyu then gestured towards the shops, “Do note that you can only walk around this area and there are guards watching the perimeter so if you were to try to leave, you might also be arrested~ If you need any help, just come and find me~ Now feel free to go and take a look at the stores!”
The moment she finished speaking, the Yoblin immediately separated from us and headed straight towards a specific store without another word.
She really didn’t want to waste more time huh…
The couple seemed unsure of what to do and since we’re now given free reign of this place… I guess I might as well check out what the Yoblin was here for.
I headed towards the store that she had ran off to, the building itself looking like some high class boutique store from the outside.
Did she really come here to buy clothes?
I stepped through the doorway and I stopped.
Shelves stood in front of me, all of them arranged in such a way that I could see what was displayed on them clearly from where I was standing.
Phallic objects lined every single one of those shelves and I immediately realised what kind of store this was.
This was an adult toy store…
Are you freaking kidding me?!
