Chapter 466 - 258: Borrowing a God’s Might (Part 2)

He felt a warmth spreading through his right arm, and his thoughts immediately went to the Golden Dragon Pattern.

’Is this... the Dragon God starting to fight back?’

The warmth from the Golden Dragon Pattern was like trickling spring water, flowing through his wracked and aching body. The pain melted away like black ice before a flame.

The Blood God’s sonorous, neutral voice resounded in his ears once more: "It’s you... You chose him too..."

"But it’s not enough... You are already dead... You can’t stop me from turning him into one of the Blood Race."

The Blood God’s tone was grim. With every word It spoke, Baron felt his blood roil and his head pound as if it would burst.

It was probably because the Old Gods represented the complete Golden Law. Every word they spoke carried the Law’s aegis, so hearing them was like confronting the very essence of the Law.

This was also why Alchemists in the Alchemy Realm sometimes went mad for no apparent reason after conducting certain experiments. Baron was once again thankful that the Big-Eyed Monster had strengthened his Mental Power under the starry sky; otherwise, he would have likely become a sacrifice to this "Divine Descent."

’To be honest, this isn’t quite how I planned it.’

His original plan was to use insults to attract the Blood God’s attention, then launch a counterattack while Vivian was caught off guard.

He just hadn’t expected the Blood God, whom he had just creatively insulted, to be so impatient as to perform a "Divine Descent" directly.

’A Divine Descent was one thing, but judging from the words in my head, this Blood God is trying to turn me into one of the Blood Race! The kind that’s afraid of sunlight, Garlic, and Crosses!’

If the prostrating Vivian knew what Baron was thinking, she might have seriously educated him on how the Blood Race was widely considered "perfect beings" and "blue-blooded nobility" in ancient times. In the academic circles of the Inner Side, there was even a school of thought called the "Blue Blood Faction."

This faction was dedicated to studying why the Blood Race, despite not being human, could become Professional Law Enforcers.

Incidentally, the blood of the Blood Race looks no different from human blood on the surface—it’s bright red.

However, when exposed to moonlight, their blood reveals a peculiar silver-blue color, which is the origin of the term "blue-blooded nobility."

As for fearing Garlic, Crosses, and sunlight, those were characteristics of Blood Demons.

In the eyes of the Blood Race, comparing them to lowly creatures like Blood Demons was a grave insult.

Unfortunately, Baron didn’t know this. Upon sensing the Blood God’s intention, his mind raced, desperately searching for a way to escape.

A warm current still flowed continuously from the Dragon Pattern, trying to surge into Baron’s body. However, the special Soul Power from the Blood God’s Divine Descent confined it to the arm bearing the Dragon Pattern, preventing it from advancing a single inch.

As that special Soul Power coursed through Baron’s meridians, it brought excruciating pain, as if millions of army ants were gnawing their way through his blood vessels.

Baron finally understood the source of the agonizing pain. He had assumed it was the Blood God’s punishment for his insolence, but he never imagined the God was actually using the Divine Descent as an opportunity to transform his body!

’When the Blood God said the Dragon Pattern couldn’t stop it, It must have been referring to the Big-Eyed Monster from under the starry sky... which represents the long-dead Dragon God.’

’If one god can’t stop It, what about two?’

Baron struggled to take out the playing card he held. Using his Spiritual Power, he guided the card to touch the blood trickling from his nose and mouth—a result of hearing the divine words.

The playing card instantly began to glow.

The Blood God’s voice rang in his ears again, sounding even more shocked than when it had confronted the Golden Dragon Pattern:

"It’s you! No wonder... No wonder..."

The divine words made him cough up more blood.

Still, he felt a sliver of relief. Judging by the Blood God’s reaction, the Dream Master seemed to carry more weight with It than the Big-Eyed Monster did.

And that made sense.

After all, the Dream Master was a genuine one of the Seven Old Gods. And while Blood God Aisley was an Ancient God, It was ultimately a tier below an Old God, who commanded at least two Golden Laws.

The Blood God fell silent after sputtering out those few words, and at the same time, the Joker card in Baron’s hand dimmed.

’Blood God Aisley, huh? Just you wait...’ Baron thought viciously.

Outwardly, however, Baron didn’t dare to breathe. He waited until he could feel that sonorous, divine presence completely vanish from his body. At the same time, the warm current from the Golden Dragon Pattern flooded him, washing through his meridians like a clear stream.

Baron felt the bloodthirsty instinct that had been welling up inside him get washed away completely. Even the remnants of Vivian’s blood were purified by the warm current, transforming into a kind of Spiritual Power substance that merged with his body. The urge to Promote, which had been suppressed, had not just dissipated... no, that wasn’t right. It was showing faint signs of breaking through!

Baron took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the urge to Promote. ’In this situation, rashly drinking the Blood Race Blood I have on me would be as smart as walking in on my parents...’

Baron looked over and saw Vivian still prostrate on the ground. She didn’t dare lift her head, raise her eyes, or even breathe too loudly. Her legs trembled, making her look like a criminal awaiting a judge’s Judgement.

’She’s probably terrified by the Blood God. That’s understandable.’

It was just like Baron himself. He might talk a big game about being an atheist, but when the Blood God actually descended, he had piped down and behaved.

At this point, Baron also noticed that everything around them was still paused, a lingering effect of the "Divine Descent."

’Has the Blood God not left yet?’

Baron instantly grew wary. A moment later, however, his keen eyes told him that the Blood God’s Divine Descent was indeed over.

The paused state of the room was slowly beginning to lift. The once-frozen candlelight had started to flicker, and the hem of the curtain had nudged forward a hair’s breadth.

He felt the Spiritual Power substance inside him, refined by the Dragon Pattern. Though he craved to use it for himself, he suppressed the impulses of the Blood Faction. After mentally rehearsing his lines, he activated his Blood Faction’s Blood Eye and, mimicking the Blood God’s tone, spoke.

"Are you... a follower of Mine?"

’Time to put on a show.’ Baron had to seize this hard-won opportunity.

Sure enough, the moment Vivian heard him speak, she trembled from head to toe. The wings wrapped around her body even began to quiver.

Vivian was deeply shocked. ’That tone... The Blood God really has performed a Divine Descent on Constantine!?’

She said in terror, "My Lord, I am Your faithful servant."

’One minute she’s a loli, the next she’s a femme fatale, all mysterious and flashy, and she nearly turned me into a Blood Servant. Now I’m just pretending to be the descended Blood God, and she’s scared witless...’

Baron sighed to himself, but he sneered outwardly. "Servant? I was not aware I had such an impudent servant!"

Vivian’s heart leaped into her throat. She thought the Blood God was holding her responsible for Baron’s earlier insults. Terrified, she stammered:

"I beg my Lord’s forgiveness! This has nothing to do with me! It was all the nonsense spouted by the one You descended upon... I was powerless to stop such heretics..."

"Nonsense? Heretics?" Baron snorted coldly. "He is the Blood Divine Envoy I chose Myself! Do you not realize that in offending him, you have offended Me!"

Baron revealed his true purpose.

’Constantine is a Divine Envoy, chosen by the Blood God to spread Its gospel? No wonder he can control blood without being part of the Blood Race. And no wonder his curses only summoned the God’s Divine Descent instead of earning Its wrath...’

The realization sent a shiver down Vivian’s spine. She hurriedly begged for mercy:

"I beg my Lord’s forgiveness!"

Looking at Vivian’s pathetic groveling, Baron knew that while he couldn’t actually do anything to her, it wouldn’t stop him from saying:

"Then I shall grant you a chance to atone! Serve My Divine Envoy as your master! Aid him in spreading the doctrine of My blood! Make up for your failings and redeem yourself through merit!"

Vivian replied, full of fear and awe, "I pledge my very blood to your will!"
