Chapter 1300: Chapter 1300 - Taming the Old World - Light Dragons - 4
The Southern Light Guardian burned...
And it burned significantly worse than the Northern Light Guardian ever could have. The big difference in the adjacent element was the exact reason Ren had selected the southern target.
The Light Dragon in the north, positioned adjacent to a fire territory, possessed a much more ethereal, illusory physiology. Its body lacked dense physical mass, meaning it was a bit more slippery to the touch and external matter struggled to stick to its mana scales.
The Southern Light Guardian operated on a completely different physical spectrum due to its adjacency to the water territories. That geographical influence made this specific dragon far more grounded, solid, and tangible.
The heavy black water adhered to it perfectly... The viscous fuel pooled in every crack, glued itself to every single scale, and soaked the guardian in a way that the ethereal beast of the north would have easily shrugged off. Once the spark caught, the fire had a genuine physical surface to grip, feeding hungrily on real fuel plastered directly onto that solid matter.
And the chemical-like burn was also exponentially more effective here.
This perfect elemental counter was precisely why Ren had not hesitated to bring such a small strike team. It was the source of his unshakeable confidence that they could finish the execution quickly and circle back to aid the other fronts.
He had never underestimated the Light Guardian; he knew full well it was the most resilient creature on the continent, the ultimate healer.
But he brought a small team because he also brought a ruthless strategy the ancient entity could never have predicted, wielding the only weapon against which the light element possessed zero natural defense.
The heavy black water was the direct natural counter to light. It was liquid shadow suffocating solid radiance. When set ablaze and glued to the physically dense dragon, it became a suffocating nightmare the guardian could not simply shrug off.
The colossal beast thrashed wildly, entirely engulfed in black and purplish flames, frantically trying to smother the fire with its own holy water power. It leaned heavily on the legendary regeneration that made it virtually unbeatable in any conventional battle.
But this was not a conventional battle...
"Do not stop!" Ren commanded the four Vanguard members holding the line. "The fire is going to keep it distracted, so press the advantage and the second it drops the breath attack, find the core! We have to punish the core before it recovers or somehow manages to extinguish the flames!"
The five tamers instantly reorganized their formation on the fly.
Liora focused entirely on keeping the inferno alive, constantly feeding her spiritual flames so the guardian could not douse the fire with its own restorative holy water. Ren systematically dialed up the heat, carving precise trenches of fire and light into the dragon’s heat-softened armor. With the blinding breath attack interrupted by the sheer agony of the blaze, Luna, Larissa, Liu, and Sirius seamlessly transitioned from a defensive wall into a relentless offensive spearhead.
The Light Guardian burned, frantically healed itself, and then immediately burned again. The creature was trapped in the exact same impossible, inescapable loop Ren had got partly by luck against the Shadow Guardian. It was forced to simultaneously rebuild and disintegrate its own flesh, entirely unable to gain any ground against an assault that refused to end.
Fueled by the ancient dragon energy rushing through his veins and a newfound, soaring confidence that extended far beyond his tactical mind, Ren began to carve his way directly toward the core of the hardest-to-kill dragon in the world.
He was dismantling a legend using a weapon the enemy had unknowingly handed him just one day prior.
????
Up in the northern territories, Selphira took full command.
The massive Vanguard battalion, comprising the bulk of the fresh combatants the capital could afford to spare without leaving its walls defenseless, had flown straight toward Yino’s Light Guardian with the ancient matriarch spearheading the charge.
The moment they arrived, anyone who had not been briefed on the specific logistics, (Min and Mayo), immediately understood that this siege would not mirror the more physical brawl happening down south.
The Light Dragon of Yino operated on a very different set of rules up here.
While the southern guardian boasted a dense physical form anchored in reality, this beast was highly ethereal. It was a shifting entity woven more from raw radiance than actual flesh and bone, making it incredibly difficult to pin down.
The creature heavily exploited that incorporeal nature too... Rather than relying exclusively on brute force, though it certainly possessed plenty of that kind of raw power to spare too, it blinded its enemies and wove complex visual illusions. The shifting mirages left the attacking forces swinging blindly, somewhat unsure if the target they were tracking was the true beast or merely a phantom.
It also unleashed volleys of concentrated light beams; while the individual kinetic yield of these blasts was a bit lower than its southern twin, the firing rate was vastly superior.
The geographical influence of the adjacent fire territory was undeniable here. The ambient glow radiating from the guardian was blinding, and it carried a lethal property inherited from its fiery neighbor. The creature could raise the atmospheric temperature to a dangerous degree, blistering the skin of anyone nearby without conjuring a single flame.
The light itself acted as a powerful generator of heat.
This was the battlefield where Selthia chose to actively compete.
Unlike the southern theater, where the corrupted swarm had scattered in sheer terror at the mere sight of Ren, the Witch had committed genuine force to the north. Six towering Diamond mutants, half of the elite dozen she had just force-bred inside the mountain incubators, held the frontline without a shred of hesitation.
These colossal abominations boasted a resilience that rivaled lesser guardians. Massed directly behind them were two hundred Platinum beasts, launching coordinated elemental barrages, seamlessly cycling their ranks to replenish the front, and completely saturating the rocky terrain.
Selthia undoubtedly wanted to keep this dragon.
