Chapter 310: Chapter 183: The Beginning
"Quiet. I will now act as my heart desires, and no one can stop me."
As his words fell, Xu Teng True Monarch extended a finger and pointed at Chu Lingxiao from a distance.
With that motion, Chu Lingxiao immediately fell unconscious.
He then wrapped Chu Lingxiao in Spiritual Power and flung him away.
After doing all this, he lifted his head slightly and gave True Monarch Zi Yun, who stood not far off, an eerie smile.
Seeing that smile, True Monarch Zi Yun’s heart sank. He cried out inwardly, ’This is bad!’
But by the time he realized it, it was already too late.
The reason Xu Teng True Monarch had said so much was not only to vent the resentment in his heart, but more importantly, to wait for Chu Lingxiao to appear.
He knew Chu Lingxiao was in the Profound Pure Sect. Though he claimed to have no attachments left in the world, Chu Lingxiao was, after all, a junior he had watched grow up. This was his last act of gentleness left for the world.
Now that he had sent Chu Lingxiao away, he had no more reservations. His Spiritual Power began to churn violently, and the Power of Law materialized, surging from his body. With a furious roar, he charged toward the main gate of the Profound Pure Sect.
"BOOM!"
A blinding flash of Spiritual Power erupted, and the entire main gate of the Profound Pure Sect trembled violently.
Aside from a violent tremor that lasted for dozens of breaths, the Profound Pure Sect suffered no actual damage.
A long time ago, after completing her creation of the Huaque Array, Little Xiyue had proposed numerous suggestions to upgrade the Sect Protection Array. The upgrade was subsequently completed through the combined efforts of the Sect’s many Array Masters.
Its defensive capabilities were now far greater than the original Sect Protection Array.
When the spiritual light faded and the tremors subsided, the disciples of the Profound Pure Sect looked up sharply. Seeing that Xu Teng True Monarch was no longer outside the main gate, many let out a shaky breath, their hearts still pounding with fear, and asked:
"What happened? Where did he go?"
Similar questions echoed in the minds of many disciples.
After a long moment, someone’s eyes widened in shock, and they spoke with a hesitant voice:
"That Xu Teng True Monarch... I think he self-destructed."
Hearing this, many people cried out in disbelief, "What?"
None of them could believe it. They had all thought Xu Teng True Monarch was about to attack the Sect, expecting a great battle between Cultivators to break out.
Who would have thought he would instead charge decisively toward the Profound Pure Sect’s gate and self-destruct, leaving no time for a battle, nor giving anyone a chance to react.
Many people could not understand his actions.
Lu Mingchen dazedly lowered his gaze from the sky, turning to Li Daoyi to ask:
"Daoyi, what was that Supreme Elder from Fellow Daoist Chu’s sect doing? Our Sect has a Sect Protection Array. He couldn’t have been unaware of it, right? If that’s the case, why did he self-destruct?"
"An act like that couldn’t possibly have harmed us, could it?"
"I thought he came to attack our Sect."
Hearing Lu Mingchen’s confused questions, Li Daoyi stared at the distant horizon, his face expressionless. He spoke without a hint of emotion:
"He’s a single True Monarch. What could he possibly accomplish by waging war on our Profound Pure Sect, a sect with over twenty Nascent Soul True Monarchs?"
This answer only left Lu Mingchen more baffled. He quickly asked:
"If that’s the case, then why did he do it?"
Li Daoyi’s expression remained impassive, his tone detached as he said:
"He did it to create an opening."
"An opening?" Lu Mingchen was utterly confused. "In the Sect Protection Array? But our array seems completely intact. His self-destruction didn’t create any opening."
Li Daoyi glanced at him, shook his head, and replied:
"Not in the Sect Protection Array. It was an opening in the hearts of the people—or rather, an opening for the malice within them."
"His actions were like sounding a horn, giving an outlet to all those who have been suppressing their Resentful Qi ever since the sickness appeared."
He looked at Lu Mingchen and said earnestly, "Mingchen, you must train hard. From this point on, the Sect will know no peace."
Hearing his words, Lu Mingchen thought for a moment before he finally understood. His face turned pale as he stared at Li Daoyi and asked blankly:
"Daoyi, does this mean... that many people will now follow Xu Teng True Monarch’s example and blame our Sect and Senior Ye Shan for the sickness?"
Li Daoyi nodded, his expression unchanging as he said:
"That must have been Xu Teng True Monarch’s goal. He knew he could not do anything to our Sect by himself."
"He said his end was near and that he had no attachments left in this world. In that case, he might as well use his own life to show all the people who have harbored deep-seated resentment since the sickness appeared what to do."
"He couldn’t do anything to our Sect alone, but if countless people were to strike together, our Sect would be..."
"But..." Hearing Li Daoyi’s words, Lu Mingchen’s expression froze. He then asked, his face filled with indignation:
"Why would this happen? It was Senior Ye Shan who saved our world! He prevented an invasion, he stopped our world from being plunged into misery and suffering! How can everyone turn around and blame him now?"
"When the Secret Realms first appeared, everyone rushed in to seize all kinds of fortuitous opportunities. No one thanked Senior Ye Shan back then, and no one thanked us."
"But now that things have gone wrong, how can they..."
Lu Mingchen’s eyes reddened as he clenched his fists, his chest heaving violently. This overwhelming sense of injustice was almost too much for him to bear.
