Chapter 840: Chapter 839: That’s Really Too Much

Damian Sinclair reached back and gently closed the bedroom door.

Bella Acker looked back at him. "President Sinclair, what are you up to now?"

"Didn’t you say Talia always sleeps alone? Then don’t go disturb her. Just sleep over here." Damian said as he walked over, checking the sheets and duvet cover on the bed. Everything was very clean; looked like they’d just been changed in the last couple of days.

All the rooms at the old man’s place were like this.

The maids cleaned every day, and the sheets were changed at least every two days, just so it’d be convenient for them to come stay anytime.

"Sure, I can sleep here." Bella nodded, raised a brow at him. "But you’ll have to sleep on the floor or the couch. You just can’t sleep on the bed."

"That’s a bit much." Damian frowned.

His own wife was right in front of him, and he couldn’t even share a bed with her. That demand really was over the line.

"Suit yourself. If you don’t agree, I’ll go next door and sleep with Talia." Bella said, "President Sinclair, let’s be democratic about this. I’m giving you the right to choose and the right to speak."

Seeing the little bit of smugness between her brows as she tried to regain the upper hand, Damian sighed helplessly. He suddenly thought of that picture he’d accidentally seen on Weibo the other day: The little troublemaker you chose yourself, you have to spoil her even when she’s crying.

"Then you sleep on the bed, I’ll sleep on the floor. That work?"

"Now that’s more like it." Bella hummed in satisfaction and finally walked over.

Damian glanced at her, practically itching to pull this version of her straight into his arms and knead her all over.

But to let her strut around a bit longer, he got up and took two fresh quilts out of the wardrobe, then found a brand-new bedding set and put it all on.

The floor heating in the whole villa was very good; even upstairs it was all warm and cozy, not cold at all.

Damian finished making up the bed, glanced at the watch he’d set beside him, and said, "It’s already past one. Ms. Acker, can we sleep now?"

"We can." Bella climbed onto the soft big bed. "President Sinclair, goodnight then."

Damian turned off the main lights in the room, leaving only a warm-toned nightlight on.

The whole room dimmed; one of them lay on the bed, the other on the floor beside it. The surroundings were so quiet it felt like they could hear each other’s barely-there breathing.

Bella lay there with her eyes open, staring at the ceiling, finding it all a bit unreal.

From the moment she boarded the plane to go abroad five years ago, she’d made up her mind that for the rest of her life she would never have anything to do with Damian Sinclair again.

Yet she hadn’t expected that on the very first day back in the country, she would run into him at the airport. He’d become even more steady, aloof, and imposing than before, and the only thing that hadn’t changed was that wherever he went, he was still the center of everyone’s attention.

After they parted at the airport, she’d thought that was going to be the last time they ever saw each other.

But then he started showing up in front of her in all kinds of ways, started pursuing her all over again.

Did her heart flutter?

It did. Because even with five years, she still hadn’t managed to forget this man who’d carved such a deep imprint into her youth.

Her first love, her first kiss, her first and only man...

He’d left too many "firsts" on her, and all of them so unforgettable that even after using up all the strength in her body, she still hadn’t truly driven him out of her heart.

Bella rolled over to face the direction where Damian was lying on the floor and asked quietly, "President Sinclair, are you asleep?"
