As soon as the old man heard that Damian Sinclair was going to take Talia back to where he lived, he immediately said, "I’ll come over right away."

"We’ve already cut ties now, what are you coming to my place for?" Damian said. "Baby’s in a bad mood. I called you so you could comfort her."

"What’s wrong with Young Acker?" the old man asked.

Damian turned off the speaker and said, "We ran into Baby’s birth mother while we were out eating. Her birth mother brought up my older brother and Ronan Rhodes. My mom used to strongly oppose me being with Baby because of that, and then five years ago that whole thing happened—I didn’t get to see her, and she went abroad and stayed away for five years. Now that the old story’s come up again, she definitely doesn’t want things to be like before, so she’s planning to keep her distance from me."

"Sigh, when all’s said and done, this is something I should be the one to bear, yet in the end it’s got you and Young Acker stuck in the middle, in the hardest spot." The old man sighed. "When the time’s right, I’ll come clean to Young Acker myself. If she’s unwilling to forgive me, then let her hate me alone."

"Baby’s not as narrow-minded as you all think. She knows Ronan Rhodes killed my brother, so she doesn’t want to keep dwelling on old grudges." Damian said, "But while she doesn’t want to dwell on them, she also doesn’t want to have anything more to do with The Sinclair Family. That’s something I can’t agree to."

"Mm. How’s things going on your end with the investigation?" the old man asked. "Have you found that David Caldwell from back then?"

"No, but I’ve found something about another person." Damian said. "That person was also one of the partners at the time, but disappeared after the incident. I just recently got some information on him."

"Good. Keep digging on your side. If it turns out we really did wrong Ronan Rhodes back then, and Young Acker still can’t accept it, this old man can pay her back with his life." the old man said solemnly.

"Quit talking nonsense." Damian said. "I’m hanging up, it’s not convenient to talk while I’m driving."

"All right, I’ll call Young Acker right now," the old man said, then reminded him worriedly, "You brat, take good care of Talia. If she so much as gets a bump or a bruise, I’ll beat you to death."

"She’s my daughter, I love her more than you do. Hanging up." Damian ended the call, pulled out another tissue and handed it to the little girl, asking, "Talia, want to eat KFC?"

He remembered that lots of kids seemed to like this kind of stuff. Even though he personally found it extremely unhygienic, and thought all those hormones were bad for the body, letting the little girl have it once in a while should be fine.

"No." The little girl shook her head. "Mommy doesn’t allow me to eat that."

"Eating a little once in a while is fine. Do you want it?" Damian said.

"Mm." The little girl nodded.

"Okay, we’ll go eat." Damian glanced ahead, turned the steering wheel, and drove to a KFC, pulling into a temporary parking spot outside.

After parking, he took the little girl with him, pushed the door open and walked into KFC.

It was already dinnertime, so business inside KFC was good, with quite a few parents bringing their kids in to eat.

Seeing the crowd, Damian simply picked the little girl up and asked, "What do you want to eat?"

"Just some fries and a pair of grilled wings is enough. I can’t eat a burger—it’s too late, I’ll get fat." The little girl wrapped her arms around his neck, rubbed her cheek against his face, and whispered, "Mommy will be mad if she finds out too."
