“But it’s better than nothing.” Laine looked at Frederick, who was playing: “At least he got a godchild.”

“The Nuer People’s sense of identity with the empire is more from Savior Ludwig, as that’s his hometown.” Amelia extended her white satin gloves, supporting her exquisite and charming little face, and complained: “As for Emperor Carl Franz, the Nuer People are not interested in him at all, or rather, the Nuer People, unlike the Rick people, aren’t interested in anything from the outside world and generally despise all outsiders.”

“Then what about Weisen Territory?” Surya continued to ask, the lady knight was interested in another title of the little maid.

“Historically, Nuer and Weisen Territory have been separate entities, and now they can merge only because I hold both titles.” Amelia spoke of this with obvious anxiety: “The fact is, the Weisen people never regard the Nuer People as fellow provincials. They look down on and firmly despise the Nuer People’s extravagant lifestyle and arrogant attitude, viewing those pleasure-seeking citizens as parasites of the empire. Meanwhile, the Nuer People look down on Weisen Territory’s poverty and their regular guerrilla and ambush tactics against Green Skin and Beastman. In the Nuer People’s eyes, muskets, cannons, steam tanks, line shooting, and knight group charges are the unique romance of war.”

“Hahaha!” Laine couldn’t help but laugh, and the Duke of Musillon smiled wryly, shaking his head without saying anything further.

The dark elf, dressed in a black-and-white maid outfit with white thick tights, sat on the other side of Laine, leaning against his back and hugging his neck from behind. Ollica laughed mischievously: “Stupid humans, why make things so complicated? It’s simple, launch a conquest; the losers all become slaves.”

“Hahaha!” Laine laughed even harder.

“What’s so funny! You’re still laughing!” Laine’s laughter drew Amelia’s discontent. The little maid lifted one long, straight leg wrapped in black velvet tights, grabbed the slipper on her silky foot, and threw it directly at Laine’s face. The Empire Countess was a bit exasperated: “Do you know how much effort I’ve put into balancing the people of these two territories to prevent infighting? I’m not you. You can solve problems in Brittania with just one word; I can’t!”

Laine caught the slipper with his hand, still laughing: “I understand you, Amelia, over the past two years, your temper has grown quite a bit!”

“Hmph!” Amelia hummed somewhat indignantly: “This is forced out of me; being too nice only invites bullying.”

Surya held Laine’s hand, just about to say something when heavy footsteps suddenly sounded from the door.

“Who?” Chief Maid Sylvia wondered, as it was now almost seven in the evening, and who would suddenly visit at this time?

The meticulous Sylvia thought for a moment; this is the Imperial Royal Hotel, and at this hour, there aren’t many people who could visit directly without alerting the guards and Laine’s attendants and Old Guards. She decided to wait and see.

Sure enough, soon there was the sound of a door opening. Obviously, Laine’s personal knight and Old Guards heard the commotion, but after a few words with the visitor, they immediately returned to their rooms and closed the doors.

Soon, there was a knock on the door: “Knock~ knock~ Is anyone there?”

“Who might you be?”

“The Protector of the Empire, the Opponent of Darkness, and the heir of all Charlemagne’s sacred legacy from the mountains to the Great Sea, the Emperor himself and the son of emperors, Rick Territory Prince-Elector and Grand Prince of Rick, Duke of Brunswick, Carl Franz is here.” The visitor formally reported a small part of his titles.

The door opened, and Laine, Surya, and Amelia quickly came out to greet: “Welcome!”

Emperor Carl Franz walked in from outside wearing a casual outfit with purple and gold accents, and to everyone’s surprise, besides Emperor Carl Franz, his Empress Helena also arrived. She was a mature and beautiful woman, slightly plump, with long blonde hair, wearing a heavy woolen coat and a jewel-adorned long dress.

What surprised Laine even more was that Emperor Carl Franz was holding the hand of a boy who looked about seven or eight years old. The boy wore a tight-fitting junior officer’s uniform and a wide robe printed with skulls, an Iron Cross, and a laurel wreath outside. He resembled Emperor Carl, with a sturdy build and eyes carrying a hint of hostility.

Behind them, a servant was half holding a girl about three years old. This little girl, unafraid of strangers, boldly watched Laine and the others with wide eyes.

“Godfather! It’s Godfather!” Before Laine could say anything, his eldest son Frederick happily called out, the little boy unsteadily ran a few steps towards the Emperor: “Good evening, Godfather!”

“Hehe~” Emperor Carl Franz immediately picked up Laine’s son, not putting on airs but lovingly rubbing his beard against Frederick’s little face: “Frederick, was Brunswick fun?”

“Fun, with dad, mom, godfather, Grandpa Ludwig, and Uncle Gailte!” The beard scrape made little Frederick scream continuously, making the boy even more excited. Compared to Laine, little Frederick was obviously closer to Emperor Carl Franz, as they met more often.
