After waiting for about twenty minutes, the Head Maid emerged from inside once more. She still did not appear very happy, but her expression was better than before. Her golden hair was styled up high at the back of her head, and she wore a deep red uniform shirt adorned with hints of cream-white decoration and a classic gold-trimmed pink pleated skirt. Her beautiful long legs were encased in coffee-colored tights, and her petite shoes remained unchanged. Sylvia saw that Laine was still standing in the same spot waiting, and a peculiar expression crossed her eyes as she walked up to Laine: "I’ve arrived, Your Grace the Duke."
"In private settings, just call me Laine." The Duke shook his head.
"Is that an order?" Sylvia questioned.
"That’s right, it’s an order," Laine said earnestly.
"... Laine, we shouldn’t be too late going back. The Lady needs my assistance tonight." Sylvia stood firmly in place. It must be said, Lady Surya’s maid was indeed quite the beauty. However, due to her always serious and stubborn nature, Laine tended to overlook her beauty.
"Surya? She has so many people taking care of her. Your absence for a short while won’t be an issue." Laine dismissed the concern lightly. The level of care given to the Knight was already at its limit. Surya’s care team included four rotating old caretakers and several Lake God Prophets, as well as the Lake Fairy herself. Sylvia’s absence really wouldn’t matter.
However, upon saying this, Laine immediately felt that it was a somewhat irresponsible tone and promptly added: "It won’t take long; what I want is to have an open and honest conversation with you."
The two walked together toward the outside of the castle. The Head Maid’s tone remained firm: "You have Teresa and Veronica as your two female courtiers, and you have that Dark Elf. If push comes to shove, you can always talk with Her Highness Mogiana, so why seek me out?"
"Teresa and Veronica have entered the Wizard Tower to do research, having gained much from the Musillon battle. They plan to isolate themselves for one or two years to enhance themselves. Her Highness Mogiana is still on her way back. As for Ollica, shall I summon her?" Laine joked with a smile, but seeing the Head Maid’s sour expression, he quickly turned serious: "The fundamental reason is we need communication. This issue requires it to be you."
"... So what is it you’re wanting to ask?" Sylvia felt her body go weak at the thought of the Dark Elf’s terrifying smile. She followed behind Laine, her face reddened as she whispered: "Anyway, I’m just a maid. Whatever you want to ask, I’ll answer."
"Why do you always carry a sword?" Laine asked, somewhat puzzled. He noticed that whether in Knight attire, maid attire, student attire, or in relatively casual dress while strolling with him, she always carried a long Knight’s Sword.
"The sword bestowed by His Majesty is a symbol of family honor! It must never be removed in public!" Sylvia raised her Knight’s Sword: "This sword represents the history of the family. I will never put it down at any time!"
"I remember you’re a noble daughter from the Van Housen Family, serving as Lady Surya’s maid," Laine mentioned to Sylvia as they quickened their pace out of the castle: "That’s a rare surname."
"Because I am a descendant of the Kuileu Duchy nobility," Sylvia nodded gently: "My father, Vincent Van Housen, once served as a Knightly Nobility under Count Kuileu, Antelme. As his daughter, I was sent to Winford College, growing up alongside Lady Surya."
"So you were childhood playmates, but why did you end up becoming Surya’s maid?" Laine asked curiously.
"Because my father failed to accomplish the mission objectives during the first La-Mesnil Abbey battle. He didn’t resist Undead Grand Mage Heinrich Kemler’s flank assault as Duke Francois had hoped, nor did he delay enough time for Duke Francois to complete the encirclement, leading to Kemler’s eventual escape. Francois failed to achieve complete victory in that battle and, in his anger, intended to execute my father. It was Surya who pleaded for him, resulting in Francois eventually sparing my father, confiscating his land, and exiling him to the Empire’s Oster Territory to serve as a regular diplomat," Sylvia spoke in a low voice: "To prevent me from being left without support, as compensation and protection, Lady Surya took me in as a maid, up until today."
"I see." Laine nodded in understanding. He pondered for a moment, then suddenly smiled: "Would you like to reunite with your father?"
"Huh?! Is it possible?" Now the Head Maid was very surprised. She halted in her tracks: "You really can..."
She couldn’t finish, for she realized Laine might truly have that capability!
Standing before her was the most powerful man in the entire Kingdom, and Francois was his father-in-law. How could he be opposed to Laine on such a trivial matter? Moreover, Kemler is already dead, Francois’s misgivings are resolved, and he certainly wouldn’t object!
Yet such a request, in the entire Kingdom, only a few people could make; otherwise, who would dare bring up matters disfavoring a Holy Sanctuary Holy Grail Knight and a Duke?
