Chapter 1374 - 586: Sylvia’s Stubbornness
Chapter 1374: Chapter 586: Sylvia’s Stubbornness
As for Sylvia, Laine’s perception is actually quite complex.
On one hand, Surya’s maid has actually never really gotten along with him. She often opposes him, frequently criticizing some of his actions and things that don’t conform to noble etiquette, which gives Laine a bit of a headache.
On the other hand, Sylvia’s actions aren’t entirely unreasonable. Laine’s behavior does indeed violate noble etiquette, and Sylvia’s criticisms are well-founded. She hasn’t clung to power either; when Laine returned, she promptly handed over all authority.
So, this girl is just being obstinate with him! This is Laine’s perception; she’s not maliciously opposing him, just expressing her dissatisfaction in this manner.
Then what is Sylvia’s core dissatisfaction?
Laine thinks it’s due to him having a bit too many female courtiers and maids, leading to the maid’s displeasure.
"What’s wrong, Sylvia, what’s going on with you?" Laine felt Sylvia clearly had something on her mind, but she was unwilling to speak. The Duke himself approached the maid slowly, crouching down: "What’s wrong?"
"No, don’t come~" With a flushed face, Sylvia looked as if she was exerting great effort to endure something. Seeing Laine approach, her expression turned panic-stricken, attempting to move but feeling powerless, she could only repeatedly protest: "Don’t come near!"
"What’s going on?" Instead, Laine became more worried, quickly approaching and assertively grasping Sylvia’s wrist, placing a hand on her forehead: "Your face is so red, but you don’t have a fever."
"Ugh!" Sylvia struggled hard, hoping to push Laine away with her hands, but his body was as solid as a Dwarf-reinforced city wall, not budging: "You, let go of me, you scoundrel, don’t do this!"
"Then tell me, what’s going on? Are you feeling unwell?" Laine realized Sylvia indeed didn’t have a fever, nor was she confused or corrupted, but her face was very red. He lifted the head maid upright, noticing Sylvia still seemed unsteady: "What happened? Should I have the Lake God Prophet or doctor at Shalya Hospital take a look?"
"No, I’m really fine." Sylvia’s face turned even redder, shaking her head desperately: "I’m just a bit tired."
"You won’t tell me?" Laine smiled somewhat mischievously, holding the head maid’s wrist: "If you don’t say, then I’ll have to..."
Today’s head maid wore a standard black-and-white maid uniform, paired with a Knight’s Sword. However, unlike the dark elf, the dark elf always looked quite glamorous in this maid outfit, whereas Sylvia appeared very dignified and serious even in a maid outfit. Her beautiful legs under the maid skirt wore slightly thick white velvet stockings, matched with standard black leather shoes with a slight heel. Her face flushed, purple pupils carried a hint of resignation and anger: "My dear Duke, please respect yourself!"
"Respect myself?" Laine knew how stubborn Surya’s maid could be. Thinking a bit, he realized pressing too hard might backfire, so he let Sylvia go and teased: "You’re Surya’s maid, Sylvia, you ask me to respect myself?"
"Ugh~" Sylvia realized her words had issues. As Surya’s dowry, she was supposed to be Laine’s entirely, asking him to respect himself was wrong from any angle.
But thinking of this, the head maid’s heart was again filled with inexplicable anger. She snorted coldly, biting her lip, hands hanging down in front, barely standing: "Alright, we’ve wasted quite some time... I..."
Before finishing her sentence, Sylvia crouched down again: "Ugh~"
Laine sighed lightly, clapping his hands: "Someone, come!"
"Yes! My Duke, what are your orders?" A maid quickly stepped up inside the castle, merely fifteen or sixteen years old, delighted to receive Laine’s directive: "Please instruct."
"Go tell Count Durin and Count Larot that I have an urgent matter tonight; the meeting will be rescheduled for tomorrow night." Laine said faintly: "Go now."
"Wait!" Sylvia hurriedly spoke: "I’m fine; tonight’s meeting is important. Don’t delay the meeting because of me."
"This..." The maid hesitated a bit, as when Laine was not present, due to Surya’s pregnancy, Sylvia managed all affairs of the castle. Facing conflicting orders from the Duke and the head maid, she felt unsure.
However, Laine’s prestige was ultimately unmatched, the maid eventually bowed to Laine indicating her understanding, then quickly left, ignoring Sylvia’s calls.
"Alright, now can you tell me what’s going on?" Laine again crouched beside Sylvia, smiling: "Because of you, tonight’s meeting is already canceled, dear Sylvia, do you also want tomorrow’s meeting to be canceled due to your resistance?"
"...That’s not the issue!" The head maid looked at Laine with resentment.
"Right now, it is the issue, Sylvia, my head maid, your refusal to cooperate is really disturbing for me, honestly." Laine smiled: "If maids all behaved like you, how could I, as the Duke, carry out my duties?"
