Chapter 1331: Chapter 570: Chaos Throne

PS: Some readers might have found yesterday’s Chapter a bit strange, but please be patient—it’s a necessary piece of groundwork.

War still raged over the Ruins City on the Kurgan Steppe.

Tamu Khan and the Plague Legion under his command drove into the midst of the two Warbands locked in battle, their advance slow yet utterly inexorable. At this moment, whether Khorne’s Brass Warriors or Slaanesh’s Desire Knights, all of them sensed that the outcome of this war was becoming illusory and obscure, as the mocking whispers of the Evil Gods rang through their minds, each murmur pointing to a completely different answer.

Chaos is an unfathomable existence, and so are its worshipers. Yet regardless, they all shouted the names of the gods they served, and chose to fight Tamu Khan’s Plague Legion to the bitter end!

Tamu Khan, mounted upon his Toad Dragon, greeted this with contemptuous mockery.

High above the battlefield, the torrential rain began to change.

Lightning rent the heavens, the color of the night sky growing foul and turbid, and sheets of acid rain came crashing down. The rotting raindrops spattered on the dead, and a horrifying sight unfolded.

The corpses strewn across the battlefield melted away like mountain snows in the thaw.

The downpour spread. Apart from Tamu Khan’s Plague Legion, the Chaos Tribes caught up in the melee discovered a situation that filled them with nameless terror—any wound exposed outside their armor, once touched by the acid rain, immediately began to ulcerate and fester.

The first to be struck hard were Slaanesh’s Desire Knights. Smoke in blue-green wisps rose from their bodies under the rain, and the corrosive power it carried was enough to make even the most perverse and deranged of the Slaanesh Knights shriek without end. From the ground, countless tendrils thrust upward, seizing the knights’ warhorses. These Norscan and Kurgan steeds quickly descended into collapse—some went lame, some were crippled, some lost all control under the gnawing acid. Bereft of their mounts’ support, the Desire Knights toppled one after another into the muddy mire.

Tamu Khan let out a low, muffled laugh, and he and his army crashed into the Desire Knights’ formation from the flank.

With the unstoppable momentum of the Plague Legion, wave after wave of Desire Knights were smashed aside. The devotees of Slaanesh horrifiedly realized that, under the acid rain’s corrosion, they had lost the mobility they had once so prided themselves on. A massacre was unfolding amid the city’s ruins.

At this moment, Slaanesh Champion Sargass furiously perceived that the battle was turning against him in the most disastrous way, for at this critical juncture the Champion of Khorne, Haka, seemed utterly oblivious to the crisis. Not only did he fail to support him, he was instead leading his Divine Chosen Warriors, clad head to toe in heavy brass battle armor, in a savage assault on the Desire Knights’ positions as well. Under the twin hammer of their enemies, the Desire Knights were being defeated at shocking speed. Sargass’s pride and self-respect were savagely wounded, and when he imagined that here, before the gaze of the gods themselves, he might end in failure, he could no longer restrain his fury.

The Champion of Slaanesh barked an order to his Guard Chaos Knights, and the young leader of the Knights personally led a charge straight toward the heart of Tamu Khan’s army. Sargass roared as he drove his forces in a direct assault upon the highest commander of this rotten host. This presumptuous creature had insulted Slaanesh’s most beloved children with his filthy offensive—he would pay the price!

Tamu Khan sat enthroned upon his Toad Dragon, remaining composed as he faced Sargass’s challenge.

The Toad Dragon beneath Tamu Khan had already been hacked into a mass of wounds and holes in the previous fighting, but Father’s creations always find their own equilibrium between pain and rebirth. Like a nightmare, the Toad Dragon gaped its maw wide and spewed forth an indescribable torrent of filth!

A reeking surge of energy blasted toward the Slaanesh Champion before it. Sargass immediately began to loudly intone a Spell; a pink strand of power and a violet strand of power blossomed at his command. Slaanesh’s flames lit the wreckage nearby, the twin fires of different hues in an instant burning through all foes between them. Yet the flames could advance no farther—in the murk spewed from the Toad Dragon’s maw, even Slaanesh’s fire could meet only one end: to be quenched.

But that was enough. The Slaanesh Champion already had his own plan.

After judging the distance, Sargass let out a shrill scream and sprang from his saddle, twisting away from the surging tide of filth, hurtling high into the air. Barely an instant after Sargass leapt, his mount dissolved, with a pitiful scream, into a pool of necrotic slurry and tissue. Sargass dropped from the sky, lithe and precise, landing upon the Toad Dragon’s back, before Tamu Khan himself.

Now the Slaanesh Champion’s once-pristine white battle armor was soaked in foul liquid, scarred over with blotches of rust where the acid rain had eaten into it. This drove Sargass almost mad with rage. He could not forgive what Tamu Khan had done to him and to his army—he would strike back!

And just as he had foreseen, Tamu Khan, hampered by his corpulent bulk and the festering environment, moved slowly. He seemed surprised by the Slaanesh Champion’s maneuver, still in the act of raising his axe to ward off the blow.

Too late. Sargass’s hand darted out, empty then suddenly Flashing with his rune blade, swift as a coiled Viper unleashed, driving true and deep into Tamu Khan’s heart!

Victorious howls thundered across the entire battlefield! The Slaanesh Champion bellowed out his triumph, claiming this victory as his own. He would offer it up to his master—the supreme Prince of Joy!
