Chapter 1313 - 563: The Fall of Musillon
Chapter 1313: Chapter 563: The Fall of Musillon
Several large iron balls were placed deep in the culvert, under the city wall. After the dwarf engineers repeatedly confirmed there were no issues, they nodded to the people outside: "All set!"
"Good!" Chief Engineer Harharaver the Gold Digger nodded towards the outside: "We’re ready!"
Female sorcerer Teresa continuously chanted Magic spells, releasing her power with no concern for preserving her Magic strength.
"Ice Burst Skill!"
"Frost Freeze!"
Dense frost spewed from the tip of the Violet Staff, continuously spraying at the entrance of the culvert. The flow on the Musillon City side had been completely frozen. The sorceress’s Magic blocked the culvert’s water channel, consuming a tremendous amount of her Magic Power. Her eyes were filled with stern focus, and deep blue Ice Magic Energy flowed in her silver pupils. During the spellcasting, her breath alone could freeze a small pond.
However, the culvert water flowed swiftly, and if Teresa didn’t continuously freeze it with her magic, the initially frozen entrance would thaw rapidly within seconds, especially during this summer season where the ice melted fast. The sorceress couldn’t gather enough magic energy from the environment, which made this task arduous. Soon, beads of sweat appeared on Teresa’s forehead, rapidly freezing into ice.
"Still not done? Where is Mr. Alfred?" Teresa continued to cast her magic, feeling anxious: "Hurry, I can’t hold on for much longer, and if the freeze lasts too long, the undead inside the city will certainly notice something’s off!"
Since the gunpowder was to be detonated in the culvert, the ground and air here were extremely damp. The dwarf engineers calculated that the fuse might not complete its task under such humid conditions.
"Here they come!" Veronica arrived with Alfred. The Temple Knight donned an entire set of standard Temple Knight plate armor, thick scriptures covered him, sealed in mud, and the protective spells from the sorceress and Ice Barrier and Ice Armor had already enveloped his body. In addition, Veronica also cast a protective spell "Fei’s Sheltering Light" for Alfred.
"You’ll use this to ignite the bomb later." Veronica handed a burning torch to Alfred. This torch was infused by Veronica with a substantial amount of Flame Magic Energy. On receiving it, Alfred immediately felt its power: "Got it."
"Alright, once we withdraw, you can detonate the gunpowder." Veronica instructed: "Don’t get too close. When the distance is about right, just throw the torch in and use Holy Shield Skill to escape immediately!"
"Understood...I get it, Lady Veronica, but why a torch?" Alfred was a bit nervous, asking an unrelated question: "I thought it would be a hand grenade or other such thing."
"Because I prefer torches. Don’t you think a Temple Knight running with a torch showcases your knightly spirit and virtues splendidly?" Veronica chuckled.
"..." Alfred rolled his eyes.
After joking, Jialan Witch’s expression turned serious: "But the real reason is the torch’s stability, its ability to store enough energy, and its capacity to delay the explosion. It’s the best means of detonation."
"Thank you." Alfred gave a awkward smile, and the Temple Knight’s demeanor became grave as he gripped the torch tightly: "Laine has helped me so much, yet I’ve never aided him in serious matters. I often watch you and Lady Teresa using magic to assist him, and I must do something too."
"You will accomplish it, Mr. Alfred, please do not be discouraged. You will encounter someone better than that waitress." Veronica had learned from Laine about Alfred’s experiences in Estalia; she understood why Alfred was so eager to prove himself.
He wants to do something to prove himself, to show that he’s worthy, to demonstrate he’s not inferior to others.
All men are like this; the difference is that Laine no longer needs to prove himself, while Alfred still needs one significant feat. Laine likely knows this, and despite Alfred often being a cheerful joker, he carries the unique stubbornness of the Northern Imperial People, so when he was the first to volunteer, both Laine and Veronica understood that Alfred had made up his mind.
"Trovik, let’s retreat quickly." Veronica signaled to everyone to exit, and Teresa ceased her spellcasting: "Be swift, Mr. Alfred, my ice wall can’t block the water flow for too long."
With that, the dwarf engineers, sorceress, and witch all exited the culvert one after another, leaving Alfred alone inside.
"Alright, let’s get started!" Seeing everyone had left, Alfred stood alone in the culvert, waited for three minutes, which was enough time for Veronica and the others to retreat to a safe distance.
"Tick-tock~tick-tock!" Teresa’s ice wall was rapidly melting under the impact of the water flow, the sound of the water drawing nearer.
The timing seems right. Alfred chuckled softly to himself: "Come on, Alfred, you’re the best!"
The Temple Knight raised the torch and began his sprint. In the cold and damp culvert, he dashed forward with all his might using his momentum from the boost.
