Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Cat and Mouse Game — Mouse No. 1, Cat No. 99

After the magical wardrobe change, the light screen flipped a page once more.

The Student Council Vice President had pulled all participants into an exclusive chat group.

The group name was extremely straightforward: [Star Cat Mouse].

The Star-Reversers had to wait seven days to reveal themselves, so currently in the group there were only two hundred mice and two hundred cats.

Plus five Student Council managing administrators, totaling four hundred and five.

Jeremy casually opened his personal profile to check.

The introduction section was pitifully short.

Nickname: Mouse No. 1.

Points: 0.

Skills: None.

Ten puzzle pieces: None.

The profiles of the others were similar. The word "Mouse" paired with a random number to replace their real name.

On the cat faction’s side, it was roughly the same, only differing in exactly one item.

Nicknames ran from Cat No. 1 to Cat No. 200.

After everyone was fully assembled, messages from the two administrators lit up.

Administrator (Green): [This group only lifts the all-mute during a fixed timeframe — 22:00 to 23:00 every Saturday night. Please communicate moderately.

Within the group, mice and cats, including Star-Reversers, are not allowed to reveal their current locations, nor their departments, classes, and real names. Only permitted to call each other by the designated nicknames.

All sent messages must pass censorship before being successfully posted. Please do not send violating content. Violating more than three times will be considered cheating; not only eliminated but the penalty will be doubled.]

Administrator (Blue): [Today’s random tasks for cats and mice have been dispatched. To avoid malicious snatching, if the task is not completed within the time limit, the exact number of points equal to the reward will be deducted. Please cats and mice accept tasks according to your capabilities.]

After that message, a pet icon appeared on the screen that had previously locked out all applications.

Jeremy clicked to view.

The first page was the points leaderboard.

The second page was the number of eliminated individuals and surviving individuals for both factions.

The third page was the map.

Currently, the whole thing was in a locked-down state; only the area he was standing in was lit up. The range was pitifully small — he probably had to forge a path himself to light up the other areas.

The fourth page was the lottery draw area.

Divided into three sections.

Section one: skill draw.

Section two: clue draw.

Section three is a limited section — weapon selection draw. (Only within the first seven days, invalid upon expiration.)

And the final page was the task acceptance area.

The tasks for the first day weren’t difficult; basically all collection tasks.

Each clue or skill draw cost twenty points.

Setting skills aside for now. But to get clues about the elemental fragments, aside from the few mandatory daily tasks, one had to accept extra random tasks to grind points. Otherwise, blindly groping around, even on the final day, one wouldn’t find them.

After scanning the surrounding environment, Jeremy chose a collection task he felt relatively confident about.

[Collect 20 rattan thorn berries, 20 star rice berries. Reward points: 20. Time limit: 48 hours.]

Having a goal, Jeremy turned off the screen and began exploring the map.

The Student Council only suppressed those higher than Intermediate Stage Five-Star. His realm wasn’t touched, remaining at Intermediate Stage Three-Star.

Even if he broke through to four stars in the next two months, he wouldn’t be suppressed down. Consider it still having some breathing room.

Island Number Seven was an island with the most diverse terrain, incredibly special.

Aside from grand occasions, this place was very rarely open. Furthermore, everything inside changed randomly, so even someone who had set foot inside couldn’t accurately grasp the terrain.

The Student Council choosing this place as the arena was also for that reason.

To avoid people from the same department or class recognizing each other and going easy, the exclusive outfits for cats and mice not only altered voices but also concealed appearances, blurred figures, and even body scents were uniformly processed.

Because the form and skills of the Sacred Weapon could not be disguised, during the first seven days, the use of Sacred Weapons and related Spirit Covenant skills was prohibited. For the thirteen days after that, it was unrestricted.

But this rule was a fatal weakness for the mouse faction.

The buff level of the two outfits was also different.

Cat: strength buff.

Mouse: speed buff.

A mage below the fifth tier losing their medium would suffer a catastrophic drop in strength.

Judging by the rules’ content, within this island not only were all sorts of traps laid out, but magical beasts were also released.

For the mice who weren’t allowed to use Sacred Weapons, this was truly a thunderbolt.

The first seven days without a weapon, while having to face the unknown perils on the island and the pursuit of the cat faction, while their Spirit Covenant skills were also locked.

As for cats, in their capacity as the hunting faction, they had an innate advantage. Even if they couldn’t use Sacred Weapons in the first seven days, they were still issued a random starting weapon.

Coupled with the outfit’s strength buff, it meant that in the first seven days, if a mouse was discovered, there was only one path: death.

Unless they managed to grind enough points to draw a weapon before being exposed, then they would have a chance to fight back.

But doing so meant having to sacrifice the points meant for clues and skills.

No matter how you looked at it, it was arduous.

Jeremy was very disappointed about this.

Just didn’t know if Evelyn’s group had drawn their desired roles or not.

Meanwhile, in another location.

The supremely unlucky Phoenix was messily crawling up from a bumpy underground pit.

He stared fixedly at the text [Cat No. 99] on the screen for a long while, before slowly raising his hand to brush the dry leaves off his hair, pulling up the hood that came with the outfit, obscuring more than half his face.

Phoenix’s mood right now was extremely terrible.

...Why a cat?

Deep down he really wanted to give up. But because of Griffin’s requirement not to rank at the bottom, he had to act according to the rules.

Phoenix opened his personal page to check.

Nickname: Cat No. 99.

Points: 0.

Total hunts: 0.

Skills: None.

Starting weapon: Scythe. (C-rank weapon, accompanying effect: Deceleration.)

Priority task: Please eliminate one Order Mouse within three days; failure means elimination.

Note: [For the first seven days, both cats and mice are prohibited from using Spirit Covenant skills and Sacred Weapons.]

...Scythe?

Phoenix clicked on the claim item section.

In less than three seconds, a scythe interwoven with red and black appeared hovering in front of him.

His mood was truly indescribable in words.

His close-combat ability, from the day of enrollment until now, had always ranked at the bottom of the team. Now Sacred Weapons couldn’t be used, and Spirit Covenant skills couldn’t either.

Making him lug a scythe around to play hunter — he definitely wouldn’t be chased and slashed back by the mice, right?

Thinking of that scene, Phoenix’s face darkened completely.

...Three days.

Should be enough to find the weakest mouse and employ some dirty tricks, right.
