Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Avalanche

This snowy mountain peak wasn’t considered far from the melting glacier river, but it maintained a state of equilibrium.

Jeremy’s group had been here for exactly a week. Aside from a few low-tier magical beasts occasionally wandering up, they encountered no other dangers.

After analyzing, Jeremy speculated the complete collapse of the glacier river was related to the appearance of the serendipity.

Normally, before a serendipity revealed itself, there were always anomalies in heaven and earth. The collapse that day was likely the omen. The only thing was, because of the black-cloaked cultist, he didn’t grasp which direction the over a thousand people ultimately headed.

At the time, he only managed to see them plunge straight deep into the glacier river the moment the anomaly arose. As for the specific target location, he had no idea.

Deep within the glacier river led to a forest. Standing on the snowy mountain peak probing with magic power, one could still see a patch of the forest’s edge.

The direction those people went was highly likely the very end of that forest. Where the end of the forest led, because it was too far, one had to get closer to know. But having decided to abandon the immortal herb, Jeremy didn’t intend to grope his way there to scout either.

Seeing the snowy mountain area still quite peaceful, the group originally intended to linger a few more days.

But just as the seven days passed, the snowy mountain began to show abnormal signs. To avoid risks, they had to abandon this place and choose another spot.

Fortunately, after a week, everyone’s injuries had healed.

If they didn’t care about the immortal herb and just treated this secret realm as a normal adventure, there was nothing much to worry about.

Wherever it was safe, they would go.

The reality was that in this secret realm, there was no place absolutely safe.

To stay away from the glacier river that had turned into a void and the forest those people went to, there was only one path left.

However, before they even exited the snowy mountain’s perimeter, an avalanche crashed down without a single warning sign.

The blizzard blinded their eyes. The entire world was covered by a vast expanse of white.

"Whoosh..."

The fog was too thick. The wind shrieked in their ears like thunder.

The wind swept the snow, slapping straight into their faces. Visibility was entirely swallowed; they could hardly distinguish the surrounding scenery.

Seeing the whole group about to be blown in different directions by the blizzard, Jeremy hastily summoned his chain whip, extending it infinitely and wrapping it around the four.

He reminded them: "Be careful. In this situation, getting separated would be very bad."

The four gave a "yeah", indicating they understood.

Even though the chain whip locked all five together, this wind still had more than enough force to push them away.

Using defensive magic power was of no use either.

Time flew by. The sky gradually darkened. But the blizzard only grew fiercer by the second.

Leon’s face stung from the wind. The lunar blade in his hand swung out, smashing a massive falling rock to pieces. His mood grew irritable as well: "This damn wind is too bizarre. Why does this wretched secret realm keep torturing people?"

Evelyn cooperatively summoned vines to block the shattered rocks flying everywhere, taking the opportunity to look up and observe.

Everywhere was just white fog. The sky was terrifyingly gloomy. Their sense of direction was completely scrambled — no one knew where they were or where they would be pushed to.

She looked at Jeremy standing at the frontline shielding the majority of the blizzard for the group, and spoke up: "Captain, let me go to the front."

Her cultivation level was higher than Jeremy’s, but every time danger struck, the one stepping to the front was always him.

Even bearing the title of captain, he had no obligation to shoulder everything alone. Furthermore, a few days ago Jeremy’s injuries were the heaviest. If he sustained severe injuries again, the situation would worsen.

"Alright." Jeremy didn’t refuse.

Evelyn rarely proactively suggested anything. This decision likely meant she had her own calculations.

The two quickly swapped places.

In the entire group, Evelyn’s ability to control the Wood and Water elements was the strongest. Upon stepping into position, she immediately formed seals, summoning vines to erect a barrier with no blind spots, enveloping the teammates inside, blocking the majority of the avalanche and shattered rocks.

Seeing this, Jeremy channeled his magic power into it to reinforce it.

It had been several hours since the anomaly arose, but the blizzard showed no signs of stopping. Especially since that blizzard current seemed to have been enhanced by some power, it was clearly not something ordinary people could withstand.

Even if the whole group were mages, they couldn’t use force to resist it. They could only passively let it sweep them away.

As for where they were swept to, it remained a mystery.

When the blizzard dispersed and everything returned to normal, it was already daytime the next day.

The layer of vast white fog vanished. The exact moment visibility cleared up, what hit the group’s eyes was a mountain of corpses and bloodstains blanketing the sky.

Jeremy observed the surroundings. They were currently in the middle of a small beach.

About a hundred meters away on the left and right sides were dense forests. Right in front of them was a vast expanse of sea.

The metallic smell of blood mixed with the fishy smell of the seabed. Corpses were piled high, of every race, among them not a few humans. The majority were Intermediate Stage and tier three. Tier fours also accounted for a third.

Judging by the marks on the corpses, they didn’t die under the fangs and claws of magical beasts, but from slaughtering each other.

This crowd clearly all came here for the serendipity. Dying en masse here meant the place the serendipity appeared was right nearby.

Jeremy’s gaze paused in the middle of the sea area.

A few corpses floated on the water surface. The elemental power in the air hadn’t dispersed yet. The survivors had probably dived straight to the bottom.
