Chapter 64- Death Comes in The Form of a Phantom (Part 1)

"You burned us alive! You killed our families, our loved ones!!!" Vigil said as he pressed his hand against Rize’s neck, suffocating him even more. For a second, a crazed look appeared on his face. "All because we didn’t want you to touch our lands or take our resources!! Why?! Why can’t you simply accept it?!"

"AGH!" Rize groaned painfully as he tried to push Vigil away. He was terrified as he saw his life flash before his eyes. He was going to die; he couldn’t breathe.

"Why can’t you just leave us alone? Why..." He muttered as he looked down, his entire body shivering. "Why can’t we just be spared all this blood?"

"..."

Tears welled up in Vigil’s eyes as he felt an overwhelming sense of despair. Everything was crumbling before his eyes. All the pain of those years of war had completely wrecked him from the inside. Every time he thinks about it, he feels the urge to vomit everything he ate.

"That is why... I’m going to kill you all. All of you." Vigil said as he clenched his teeth, pressing Rize against the tree even more. Then, he suddenly turned around and threw him with all his power.

Rize flew in the air, seeing the night sky in its full glory. Then, he descended to the ground as he rolled several times and stopped near another tree. His body was completely numb, and he couldn’t feel anything anymore. He made weak, pained noises as he tried to stand up, only for Vigil to approach him and kick him in the stomach violently, sending him stumbling into the bush.

"You have ruined everything. Everything was going perfectly until you and that girl appeared. That could’ve been the strongest blow The Royal Family had received in their history!!"

*BANG*

Rize’s body ragdolled into another tree.

"We could’ve made them crumble to their knees as they witnessed their people lose trust in them!!"

*BANG*

Rize was launched into the air as he fell to the ground motionless.

"We had everything set up for the greatest retaliation in history!!!"

Vigil reached Rize and grabbed him by the throat. At that point, the boy was a bloody mess. Not a single part of his body was uninjured. He was shivering, his eyes were barely open, and his breaths were so weak, they might as well be non-existent.

But Vigil didn’t stop as he punched him in the face, again, and again and again. It was as if he was emptying all the anger and hatred he harbored for all those years into Rize.

"Go to hell! You all should go to hell!!!" He said as he finally punched him hard and stopped, breathing heavily from anger. The boy lay there like a dead corpse. His face was messed up beyond recognition.

Vigil stared at him for a few seconds, his eyes cold with no empathy in them. Even though he knew Rize was a mere boy, he felt nothing but hatred for him. But at the same time, he could only click his tongue. It didn’t feel satisfying at all to beat the living hell out of that boy. If it was Theodore or anyone else from the royal family, he might’ve felt something, but this... It only made him even more upset.

’They pushed me to kill their innocent people. They pushed me to kill this kid. They deserve hell for all of it.’ He clenched his fists tightly before he stood up and summoned his sword. Then, he aimed it at the boy. His eyes were ruthless and cold.

"This is the message I will leave to them when they find your body. This is what messing with us leads to." He said as he lifted his sword slowly, ready to deliver the last strike.

However, at that moment, he saw the boy’s lips move.

"Hm? You’re still conscious?" The man muttered as he crouched down. "What are you trying to say?"

But because of how weak it was, Vigil couldn’t hear him, so he leaned in closer. That was when he heard a whisper in his ear.

"You... don’t... have... what... it... takes..." Rize said.

The words fell on Vigil like a lightning strike as he froze in place before he slowly turned his head around to stare at Rize. He didn’t know what to say. A few words and yet for some reason, they struck a nerve he never knew he even had.

Suddenly, his face scrunched into anger as he stood up and grabbed his sword with both hands.

"Die!!!" He then swung down like a flash, ready to decapitate Rize.

At the same time, unbeknowst to him, a silhouette cut through the forest like a phantom, crossing hundreds of meters within seconds. It was able to easily maneuver through the thick bushes and trees as it emerged into the opening where the two were.

Vigil didn’t even notice it until his senses suddenly picked up something approaching him at lightning speed. He didn’t have time to even turn around as he instantly channeled his Essence and put his sword forward, ready to defl-

*BANG*

"AGH!!" The hit felt like a missile had slammed into his body, sending him flying hundreds of feet back.

*BOOOOM*

He slammed into several trees, breaking them in the process as he flew through the forest. A large cloud of dust and debris formed behind him before he finally slammed into a rock cliff, leaving a big dent in it before he fell to the ground.

The man felt as if every bone in his body was rattled out of place. He took several seconds to recover as he stood up slowly, his body swaying left and right.

"Wha... the hell was that..." He muttered as he looked left and right. At the same time, his senses spread far and wide, trying to locate the enemy. But, shockingly, he couldn’t sense anyone.

However, his instincts were telling him that there was someone there. Someone extremely dangerous. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he stared left and right.

However, before he could even understand what happened, suddenly, something moved in his peripheral vision.

’They’re attacking!’ He instantly swung his fist, trying to take them by surprise. Instead, his fist moved through thin air. It didn’t hit anything.

’What?!’

"AGH!"

Then, he felt a sharp pain assault his side as he was launched back several dozen feet again. He slammed into a tree violently. The man clenched his teeth as he saw the ghost dash toward him.

"MARK OF REVENGE!!!" He yelled as he launched another mark that swept the entire area and exploded violently. All the trees around him were obliterated in a second. The explosion of energy only calmed down seconds after, and what it left behind was a barren land with no trees or grass in it.

There was no trace of the attacker.

"Hah..."

’Where the hell did they go?! Where are they?! Left? Right? Above me?!’ He was panicking inwardly as he tried to look for any sign of the enemy.

But he saw nothing. It was as quiet as ever, and the sheer feeling of fear he experienced was sending his mind into shambles.

’Where are they?!!!’
