Chapter 143: Chapter 143- Always Unravels

Chapter 143- Always Unravels

The tests continued as normal for everyone within the building, as the unease slowly dissipated and the candidates started focusing on the tests again. Now that things had calmed down, the pace was surprisingly even better than yesterday. The events of the first day were terrifying to the point where it kind of took the fear out of the test, and people became less worried about their results.

On top of that, they had an extra precious 6 hours as recompensation for the events of yesterday, which gave them some more time to tackle the ever-more-difficult problems of the tests.

Rize, Venera, and Rose were at the very front of the race as they were simply far better than everyone there. They were smarter, and their brains worked way faster and more efficiently when solving every problem. That was the result of their high essence talent and their ability to manipulate it and use it to squeeze every advantage possible and widen the gap between them and the others.

Hours passed, and the number of subjects decreased on Rize’s table. He was surprised at how fast he was working; even though he expected that he would finish tomorrow, at the pace he was going, he could easily finish on the second day. He sucked in a deep breath as he stared at his work after what felt like 8 hours of continuous work.

’I’m almost done.’ Rize thought to himself as he stared at the very last subject left. He felt like he had been slumped over the table for ages, which strained his neck slightly. However, his essence was working magic in easing that pain and healing his sore muscles.

’I definitely needed to lock in to get all of this done in record time. I feel like I wrote more than I’ve ever written in my life before.’ He thought to himself as he cracked his fingers. ’Let’s get this over with and get the hell out of this place.’

Staring around him, he noticed that most people were barely halfway through, with the exceptional ones at around 70-80% done. Rize had really outdone himself, and he felt proud of that.

With that, he grabbed the last subject and started working with even more hunger. With each word he wrote, he felt like he was one step closer to getting out.

Time passed rather slowly as Rize flipped one page after the other, inching toward the end. The closer he got, the more excited he felt to get out of this place.

’Come on, this... this is almost done.’ He bit his lip and finally reached the last page. In a few minutes, Rize was able to finish it without any problems as he finally exhaled and looked at his work.

He smiled slightly before he nodded his head. ’I don’t think I need to check for any mistakes. This is flawless work.’

He knew what he wrote, and with his supernatural abilities, Rize was certain that he had done everything right. With that, he closed the stack of paper and looked at the supervisor. ’Well, this is definitely going to gather some attention, but nothing can be done.’

Just as he was about to raise his hand, suddenly, another person raised their hand.

"I’m done with the test, ma’am."

Rize looked to the side just to realize that Rose was also done. He blinked before he nodded his head. ’Can’t expect less of her.’ He thought to himself.

The entire class looked at Rose with wide eyes, not believing what they had just heard.

"What?"

"Done?"

"Is she serious?"

"I’m still halfway through... There is no way she finished this quickly."

"Maybe she just didn’t finish the entire test?"

The reaction was naturally one of shock, as nobody could even understand how someone could finish the test that fast. Many of them had been writing non-stop and thought they were doing the work quite fast. Yet, somehow, they weren’t even close to Rose.

Melissa signaled for them to remain silent before she looked at Rose. "Are you certain?"

"Yes." She said.

"Understood." She said as she snapped her fingers and the test disappeared. "Please head to my office, and I will be there with you shortly. I will review the test and give you the final result."

Just as Melissa was about to look elsewhere, Rize raised his hand. "Me too; I finished."

The entire class became completely silent for a second as they stared at him as if he were some sort of alien. Not just one, but two people finished at the same time.

"Are we... doing something wrong?"

"How is someone finishing this quickly?"

"Maybe they’re cheating? No, that isn’t possible..."

"What are these two?"

"You don’t know that girl? She’s very popular..."

"Really?"

"Yeah..."

As the whispers erupted again, Melissa signaled for them to remain quiet and asked Rize the same question. "Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Good. You two head to my office, and I will be there shortly."

With that, Rize and Rose stood up and left the class.

"Good work," Rose said. "We finished at the same time, which is quite the coincidence."

"Is it now?" Rize asked. "We have been working at the same pace the entire time."

"I wanted out of here as soon as possible, so I perhaps put a bit more effort into it," Rose said. "Oh, I heard about what happened yesterday and how you caught the culprit."

"Yeah..." Rize muttered.

"That is quite impressive. I never thought he would be using some sort of needle-shooting weapon to transmit the poison to his targets."

"... It’s the only way he could’ve done it without anybody knowing. The needle is too fine to be seen with the naked eye, and it shoots at the speed of a bullet and probably only feels like a prickle and then melts or dissipates." Rize said.

"Quite the nasty weapon to be able to sneak into the city without anyone noticing. He must be quite the trickster." Rose said in a sarcastic tone.

"You believe that?" Rize asked.

"Of course not." She replied. "They’re lying through their teeth. It obviously has a lot of hidden facts that we don’t know about."

"Yeah," Rize replied. "I don’t think anyone cares to fact-check them, as they’re too occupied with the test, so they will get out of this sticky situation without any problems."

As much as he didn’t like to admit it, the academy played it right by hiding the truth and mitigating the damage as much as possible. If the students protested the incident, it would be a disaster on every single front, which was probably what the boy himself was aiming for and what he failed to achieve in the end.

"I wouldn’t really say that so early," Rose said. "The thing about lies is that they always unravel no matter how much time passes."

"..."

"We will see if they really get out of this unscathed or not." She said as she opened the door to Melissa’s office and walked inside.

Rose’s words made Rize contemplate for a second. She indeed was right. Lies could hide for a long time but never forever. It was as if the world itself would twist fate just so that lies always unravel.

’In the main story, the academy does get a huge blow in the future that destabilizes it quite a bit, but that only happens years down the line.’ He thought to himself. ’I wonder how things will go now that everything is different and changed.’

With that in mind, Rize walked after Rose into the office. Melissa’s office was quite cozy and nice, with comfy couches, a desk, and a nice view of the city. They sat on the chairs facing the desk and waited in silence. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

"I wonder how long it will take her to review both of our works," Rize said.

"Not long. They already have the answers for every question, so it is just a matter of applying that to our tests. I wouldn’t be surprised if she-"

Just as Rose was speaking, the door to the room opened, and Melissa walked in.

’Speak of the devil.’ Rize thought to himself.

"I have reviewed both of your tests and confirmed with the academy." She said. "As you two might’ve expected, you have done flawless work, so congratulations; you have passed with flying colors." She said.

’Nice.’ Rize nodded his head while Rose simply adjusted her sitting position to a more comfortable one.

"And since you two finished at the same time, you two are the second fastest to finish the test."

"Do we need to ask who the first one is?" Rose asked with pursed lips. They already knew who that person was.

"Candidate Venera. She has finished a few minutes before you two."

"Fair enough," Rize muttered. ’Nice, Venera.’

"Now, normally, I would give you a breakdown of the test and the answers, but since you two aced the test, I doubt you would really need that. So, I will move to the important part, which is the second part of this test."
