Chapter 22 - Ordinary yet Extraordinary Response

The voice gradually faded away.

At the same time, light covered the endless darkness surrounding my consciousness and a warm sensation spread throughout my body.

"...Mmn..."

A faint groan escaped my mouth and I slowly opened my eyes, feeling I had an extremely long dream.

But the moment I tried to recall what the dream was about, my mind became strangely blurry.

I frowned slightly and tried to touch my forehead. But the next moment, sharp pain spread through my entire body.

"Hiss—"

My bones, muscles, and organs all seemed to be screaming because of the sudden movement and I almost fainted again.

I no longer dared to move and could only look at the ceiling.

This was an unfamiliar ceiling.

Did Elize save me from the sacrifice?

Except for her, I don't think anyone else could have saved me in that situation.

But why did she save me? I just met her.

Although I don't understand, it was a fact that I was saved. Therefore, there was no need to think much.

It's good be alive. As for the reasons, we can find them later.

As I slowly calmed down, I finally notice the two girls standing beside the bed from the corner of my eyes.

The first thing that caught my eye was a beautiful red-haired girl who looked to be around my age.

Her long crimson hair flowed down her back, while her ruby-red eyes were quietly fixed on me.

She had a fair skin and a beautiful face. Although she was only wearing a simple white dress without any luxurious decorations, she possessed a temperament which stood out from the crowd.

Standing beside her was another girl with long pink hair and pink eyes.

Her fair skin, innocent appearance, combined with that adorable expression, made her look exceptionally cute.

But compared to her face, my eyes were more focused on the top of her head where an ahoge was standing proudly, swaying from side to side.

For some reason, the moment I saw it, the image of a certain dumb king who couldn't understand people's hearts immediately appeared in my mind.

Suppressing the thoughts about touching the ahoge, I said weakly, "Thank you for saving me."

Although I didn't know the two girls in front of me and it was Elize who saved me.

But since it was these two girls who appeared in front of me then they must be the ones who took care of me when I was unconscious.

Therefore they deserve my gratitude.

The moment those words left my mouth, both girls were visibly taken aback.

The red-haired girl gently waved her hands, "No need to thank us. Anyone else would have done the same thing."

"Y-Yeah. Helping others is a good deed." The pink haired girl in the side also nodded.

Listening to their words, I couldn't help but be surprised.

The reason I thanked them was out of subconscious habit of a modern person. But I never expected such an ordinary response.

Yes, ordinary.

The response from the girls could only be considered ordinary.

But it was this Ordinary response which suddenly filled my heart with an indescribable emotion.

Ever since I arrived in this world, I had mostly experienced coldness and darkness of human nature.

Be it my father Bahod who treated me as a tool or my mother who tried to brainwash me. Both could be considered Evil to the Extreme.

Although Lia, Sister Aisha, Master Belius, and Toke allowed me to understand that this world wasn't filled with Evil, there was no denying that most of the people I came into contact with were Evil.

I have never seen strangers who could be as ordinary as the two girls and be as good as the two girls.

In the previous world, this quality of saving strangers without requiring any reason might be considered ordinary.

But in this world, it was an extraordinary quality.

The red-haired girl tilted her head slightly, seemingly confused by my silence.

"Are you alright?"

Her voice pulled me back to reality, I slowly shook my head, saying in a horse voice, "I-I'm fine."

At this moment, the pink-haired girl seemed to notice something and her eyes widened slightly.

"Ah! You just woke up. You must be thirsty."

She immediately turned around and poured water from the nearby container

"Drink slowly. Your body has been unconscious for a while."

She carefully helped me raise my head and brought the cup to my lips.

Feeling the cool water slide down my dry throat, I couldn't help but sigh in relief.

"...Thank you."

The pink-haired girl smiled brightly, "You're welcome."

Such a simple smile, and such a simple answer. But somehow, it made my heart feel strangely warm, and reminded me of my time with Lia and Sister Aisha.

Really, why am I feeling so emotional just because of a strangers kindness.

Wasn't this very common on Earth?

Seeing someone injured, ordinary people would help if they could. Seeing someone in trouble, it was normal to help, at least, to me it was normal.

As long as it wasn't a person without concious, this would be their normal response.

Why has this normal reaction become so precious in this world?

I don't understand and I don't want to understand.

At this moment, I carefully savored the sweet taste of the water which I had just drunk.
