Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 61: Protect the Tribe!
Everything moved extremely slowly in Kanan’s eyes. Not because his perception was that fast, but simply because that’s how things felt in the moment.
Seeing flaming arrows first thing in the morning wasn’t something he expected, and due to his inexperience, he wasn’t prepared to act.
It was only thanks to their prior preparations that the village was able to survive the flaming arrow assault. Kanan had predicted that something like this might happen, so he had everyone capable of creating barriers combine their powers and erect one around the village.
The arrows slammed into the barrier, snapping in half without a single one making it through. Fire had spread across the barrier for a few seconds before being snuffed out from the lack of burning material.
"WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!"
"SOUND THE ALARMS!"
The whole village went into lockdown mode, civilians returning to their huts while the Hunters, Guards, and Warriors mobilized toward the gates to protect the village.
"Where did the attack come from?!" A guard asked while mounting the ballista
"East! It came from the east!"
"The east?" He turned the ballista toward the eastern forest, wondering how and why the volley of arrows came from that direction, but it didn’t matter. Defending their home was the top priority, and so he fired the massive arrow into the forest.
A massive chunk of dirt flew into the air like an erupting geyser while a few trees were uprooted. There was now a large scar in the land, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed later.
"I didn’t hit anything! Are you sure the attack came from the—"
BOOOOOOOOOOOM
An explosion, a devastating one at that, cracked the barrier, causing the ones keeping it stable immense strain.
Then, another explosion struck the barrier, cracking it even more.
"The barrier isn’t going to last at this rate!"
"We need to find where they are!"
Kanan wasn’t dozing off into space anymore and was trying his best to calculate where they were being attacked from.
The arrows came from the east, but the first explosion came from the north, and the other from the west.
However, as he went to the wall to see where they were being attacked from, he couldn’t see anyone. It was as if a ghost was attacking them.
"This doesn’t make any sense! Unless..." He looked around and spotted Chief Solan giving orders.
Wasting no time, he jumped as far as he could, landing next to the chief before pulling him away from his conversation and giving orders to everyone present.
"Warriors! I want all of you to circle around the village. Station our troops around the northern, eastern, and western gates!"
"Kanan, what are you—" The chief grabbed his shoulder to ask what Kanan was doing, but he was ignored and continued to bark orders.
"We’ll need more people who can use bows and crossbows on the wall to rain down arrows from above when I give the command. Chief, I need you to do something."
"Kanan! What are you doing?! Do you know where the enemies are?"
Just then, another explosion cracked the barrier once more. This time, it came from the east, striking where the arrows once did.
"Yes. They’re in the sky, and they’re invisible!"
The chief’s eyes widened looking up, only to see the cracked barrier. However, he had no reason to distrust Kanan.
"What do you need me to do?"
"I will fire my spirit energy into the air, connecting it with the Typhon Tribe so everyone else can sense their whereabouts. Once you are able to sense them, I want you to pull all of them down with your gravity. Then, the real battle will begin."
The chief nodded and relayed Kanan’s orders to everyone around.
"When you’re ready, Kanan."
Taking a deep breath, another explosion from the north cracked the barrier even further. Kanan channeled his power and shot it into the air, the blue energy spreading like a ripple that touched every member of the Typhon Tribe.
While this did them no harm, everyone was now able to sense their presence. Once they were detected, Chief Solan, empowered by Kanan’s power, dragged them all from the sky and sent them crashing into the ground.
The warriors, guards, and hunters wasted no time emptying arrows onto their enemies, hearing their cries of pain and death hidden beneath the dirt cloud that formed.
"Keep firing! Don’t let them get up!"
"We’ll crush the Typhon Tribe before they can even—"
A spear tore through the barrier, shattering it, and impaled a warrior on the wall, his limp body falling over and collapsing in front of the Typhon Tribe.
Telah stepped on the body to remove her spear from his face and pointed it forward at the wall.
"TYPHON TRIBE, ATTACK!"
"NEMEAN TRIBE! SHOW THEM NO MERCY!"
The warriors around the gates poured out to attack the Typhon Tribe, the bloody encounter staining the newly built walls.
Blessings went up against the Spirits of Nature, each natural force causing devastating damage and destruction on each side.
It was thanks to the walls that the inside of the village was able to avoid becoming a battlefield, allowing the people to cower in safety rather than face the dangers outside.
Chief Solan watched from above, occasionally helping if a warrior needed it, but his focus was mainly on Chief Woton.
Woton did the same, helping his tribe if needed while watching Solan. They both knew that if they joined the battle, it would lead to a devastating outcome.
Therefore, the people who directed the battle were the elders on both sides, accompanied by their most elite warriors.
"Keep them out! Don’t let them get past the gates!"
"Behind you!"
"Filthy Typhon dog!"
"You Nemean bastards are going to meet your god today!"
"This wall wont stop us from killing you!"
"Once we’re done with you, we’ll be taking this village as our own!"
Kanan, despite all of the blood and dead bodies piling up, did his job perfectly. He had returned to the shrine, the place where the people who made the barrier were, and used his power from there to empower his people.
It was thanks to this, combined with their improved weapons, that they were able to push the typhon tribe back and managed to shut the gates, keeping the battle outside.
"Are you all okay?" He asked the men and women who were breathing heavily after the barrier had been shattered.
Fera was here with these experienced warriors, guards, and hunters, wanting to do her part.
"W-We’re fine. Thanks to your power, the backlash isn’t as bad as it would have been."
"That’s good. Stay here and gather your strength; we might need it later."
