Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction

Chapter 45: Spirit Transfer works with weapons?!

Breeding was pushed back by two weeks to allow for Kanan to rest. He was thankful, even though he was back on his feet within four days.

Glena and Viola rushed to his side while he was in the healing hut. Viola was impressed by his great strength. And Glena, she was sobbing hysterically.

Hearing that Kanan was hurt brought back memories of her losing Dilon, and she didn’t wish to go through that again. Kanan promised to be more careful in the future, which she was thankful for.

Today, he decided to take it easy. His body was still sore, but he was more than healed enough to go back to training or do other physical tasks.

But the most important thing he wanted to do today was speak with the village chief. So, he made his way over to the chief’s hut and knocked on the door.

"Oh, Kanan, dear. What brings you here today? Shouldn’t you be resting?"

"Good morning, Pema. I have something important I wish to tell the chief. I think the future of our village will greatly benefit from what I plan to tell him."

"Well, come in, then. I wouldn’t want to keep you waiting."

"Thank you." He stepped inside, and Pema directed him to her mate’s office.

"Ah, Kanan. What brings you here today?"

"Chief, I think we should look into building an outpost on the mountain. Let me explain." Kanan went over everything he discovered while traveling back from hunting the Mountain Ape.

He didn’t leave anything out and even added nice words such as ’spying on the enemy tribe’ to have the chief agree with his idea.

"Did Lord Nemean speak to you about this?" It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Kanan, but hearing the word of their god was more important.

"No, he did not. This is something I concluded on my own."

"Hmmm. I can definitely understand why you would think we should build an outpost there. I would be inclined to agree as well, but we don’t have the resources. On top of that, we’ll be constructing the walls and guard towers during this winter, so adding another project on top of that, especially in the mountains, will be difficult."

Kanan shook his head. He knew how hard their people would be working, and he didn’t wish to put any more strain on them.

"Please don’t misunderstand, Chief. I do not wish to overwork our people. I just hoped you would consider this potential location for a base. Construction of the village walls and guard towers takes priority; nothing else."

"Very good. Then I’ll approve this base. But it shall be done once winter ends, and potentially after we fight against our enemies. While I wish we could construct it further to get an advantage, I do not wish to burden our people and overwork them."

"I am in agreement." Kanan nodded. "That is all I wanted to talk to you about. I’ll be on my way."

"Take care, son. Oh, and Kanan."

"Yes?"

"Give my daughter a child, will ya? When it’s time to perform your duties."

"I’ll do my best, sir."

"Dear, do you think Kanan can give me another child as well?" Pema wondered

"Hmm? Do you want one? Kanan, would you mind giving my wife a child as well?"

"I-I don’t mind, but are you sure?" He asked Pema

"Absolutely! It would be a great honor to have the child of the Shaman."

"O-Okay then." It was really embarrassing to hear that, but Kanan accepted and then left the hut.

---

The fight against the Mountain Ape didn’t just come at the cost of staying in a healing hut for four days. Kanan’s staff was unusable.

Metal was rare, making this hurt worse than it normally would. To top things off, this was bronze, not stone, so the pain hurt even more.

Holding the bent staff was so difficult because every time Kanan looked at it, he wanted to cry. So, he went to take it to the blacksmith.

"I’ll have to melt it down to make a new one."

"Y-You can’t just...I don’t know...unbend it?"

The blacksmith looked at Kanan as if he were stupid, then shook his head. "No."

"Dammit. How much do I owe you?"

"It’s on the house."

"Thank you, sir, but I have to repay you somehow."

"Nope, it’s going to be free of charge. You helped me those months back, and you became the Village Shaman. I’m just showing you my gratitude and respect. But if you do want to help me out...come closer."

Kanan leaned closer so the blacksmith could whisper into his ear.

"My daughters, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind carrying your child, if you know what I mean."

’What is up with everyone wanting me to impregnate their female relatives?’

"I would offer my mate, but she’s past the age of having children."

"I-I see. Well, if they don’t mind, then I’m okay. They’d probably be sent to my hut one day anyway."

"Hahaha! That’s the spirit! I’ll get your staff done in no time. Is there anything unique you want done to it?"

"Not that I can think of. Just having it be sturdy is good enough for me."

"Sounds good. I’ll try my best to make it a masterpiece. Hopefully the quality doesn’t drop during the crafting process."

"Hmm? The quality of the metal can drop?"

"Of course it can! That’s how some weapons fail to get made. This is part of the reason why bronze weapons are so rare. Stone weapons are great and all, but bronze weapons are better, so it takes more to maintain."

’Right! I read something like that from the system. Man, you’d think that metalworking would be simple, but nope. It’s a whole process, like farming...Wait! Like farming!’

Kanan turned to one of the failed weapons in the smithy, picking up a dagger and dumping his power into it.

"Kanan, what are you doing?"

"Testing something out." Since his power helped plants and crops grow, he wondered if his power could remove the impurities in the metal while also making it stronger and of better quality.

’According to my knowledge, Spirit Transfer makes everything it touches better, regardless of what that is. So this could work.’

After concentrating his power into the dagger, Kanan felt it. The metal, while it didn’t lose its impurities, did become stronger, and he could feel the weapon resonate more easily with his power.

"Holy crap!"
