Understanding the role that Kanan would play in the future was important. Very important, and everyone agreed that he was the most valuable person their village had ever had in the past few centuries.

This, however, didn’t stop Kanan from wanting to go to the festival. Yes, he knew he needed to learn his role, learn what he needed to do for the future, but he was also one of the blessed young men and women, so it was his day to shine.

Therefore, the elders and the village chief decided to end their meeting early. Most things they needed to say were already talked about, so it was okay if Kanan and Omula went to the festival to enjoy themselves.

"Kanan, you can rest for a few days, okay? We’ll call for you once we organize things on our end." The village chief informed him.

"Thank you. D-Does this mean I can go to the festival?"

"Heh, yes, you can go to the festival."

With a smile, Kanan left the Sanctum and ran all the way back to the village shrine.

---

The celebration was still going strong. Men drank, women danced, and warriors put on a mock battle for entertainment. Food was passed along tables for everyone to enjoy, and every young man and woman who was blessed today was in the spotlight.

Glena and Viola were enjoying the festival, though the look on their faces gave off a different impression.

Kanan, they wanted him there with them. It was a celebration that was meant to honor their generation, so it was only right that he should be there as well.

Glena was looking forward to the day when she could see him enjoy his special day, but it didn’t seem like that would be the case. A small hole formed in her heart due to sadness.

"Aunt Glena, Viola, I’m back!"

"Kanan!" They shouted in unison, the sight of his presence brightening up their day once more.

"Are you okay? What happened?" Glena’s voice was full of worry.

"I’ll explain later. But everything is okay. For now, I want to enjoy the celebration."

"Yeah! That’s the spirit! Here, eat some meat! This uses some good seasoning! I’m sure you’ll like it!" Viola gave Kanan a whole bowl of freshly cooked meat with tons of seasoning covering the skin.

Seasonings were a rare luxury, used sparingly throughout the year. More often than not, salt was reserved for preserving meat rather than enhancing its flavor. But today was different. This was a day of celebration, a day worthy of indulgence. No one held back, bringing out the finest cuts of meat and seasoning them to perfection for the feast.

Together with Glena and Viola, Kanan ate his fill, drank till he dropped, and enjoyed the day with everyone else.

He was happy, and everyone was too. Such a day brought people closer, letting them connect on a deeper, emotional level. Families showed off their children, and the older generation had fun messing around with the newbies who would be learning their roles and abilities in the upcoming days.

The celebration lasted until nightfall. Clean-up crews had already started to clean up the area hours prior, but they were waiting to move in full force once night struck.

People made their way back to their huts after thanking their gods for an amazing celebration. Some were already knocked out due to being in food comas, while others were so drunk that they decided to make the grass their bed for the night.

Viola had gone home with her family, carrying her brother on her back since he got carried away and drank until he dropped.

Kanan and Glena, too, had gone home, entering their hut and being greeted by utter darkness.

Drinking wasn’t one of Kanan’s strong suits, it being his first time and all, so he made sure to keep things moderate. He felt tipsy, but not drunk. The same applied to Glena.

Apparently, she was bad when it came to drinking, as one mug made her nearly pass out, and Kanan carried her to their hut.

"We’re here." He placed her on their sleeping mat and lit a fire to brighten up the room.

"Kanan, I’m so proud of you." Glena’s voice was soft and low, barely a whisper, but it was still loud enough for Kanan to hear her words.

A smile tugged at his lips upon hearing her words. He was so happy that she was in his life, happy that one person was able to see him on his big day. The gratitude he felt toward Glena was out of this world, and he would never stop being thankful to her.

"Hey, Aunt Glena."

"Hmm?"

"My role. It’s the village shaman."

She was silent for a bit, then answered. "Yes. I was surprised that such a role existed."

"I was, too. But it’s my job to ensure that the future generation of our people thrives. S-So, I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind helping me with my duty right now."

Glena leaned up and looked at Kanan. Her face was slightly flushed, and her heart was pounding through her chest.

"You mean..." The words got stuck in her throat.

"I’m sure it will work this time. I’m going to put a baby in you."

Butterflies danced in Glena’s belly when she heard Kanan’s declaration. She was happy, more than happy. This was something she dreamed of, and it was finally happening.

The curse placed on their people held them back from conceiving properly, but with Kanan’s new role, that would be negated easily.

"With your new role, you won’t be lacking when it comes to being with women. Are you sure you still want this?" Glena didn’t even know why she had asked such a question. She wanted this; she really wanted this. Looking out for Kanan for so long made her mind default to ensuring that he was okay first.

"More than anything. I’m very sure." To make his point stick, Kanan removed his clothes and moved to Glena’s side, doing the same to her.

She didn’t stop him, didn’t hesitate. She simply looked forward to what was to come.
