Chapter 1015: Chapter 100: Only One of You and Him Can Survive (37 Updates)
"Teacher, I must kill him." Mu Tianyin recounted what had happened in the Wuhua Domain to the Tianlu One, then spoke, seething with hatred.
His anger, his hatred, was not aimed at the Tianlu One, but at Mu Qingge.
"If I’m not mistaken, the thing should already be in his hands." After listening to Mu Tianyin, the Tianlu One closed his eyes and said slowly.
Mu Tianyin’s face changed abruptly when he heard that, and he looked at the Tianlu One in disbelief.
"But I didn’t notice any strange behavior from him. That night in the Nine Curves Maze, the one I ran into wasn’t him, but an ordinary-looking woman." Mu Tianyin said, unwilling to believe it.
Aside from seeing Mu Qingge desperately currying favor with the Princess Chu Nian and the Wuhua God Emperor, he had sensed nothing else.
"Perhaps that woman was someone he sent out?" The Tianlu One opened his eyes, those deep eyes shifting to him with an unreadable look.
Mu Tianyin’s pupils narrowed; his taut lips pressed into a line, and his expression grew even uglier.
Why... hadn’t he thought of that at the time?
"I never saw any woman by his side." Mu Tianyin said in a low voice. In his heart he still didn’t believe, unwilling to accept that Mu Qingge was the final winner.
He tried hard to deny that feeling, but from the Tianlu One’s gaze, he felt it was all just his own wishful thinking.
The Tianlu One said mildly, "In the Wuhua Palace you were chased like a stray dog, while he remained completely unaffected. That alone shows how far his cunning surpasses others."
Those words made Mu Tianyin’s face sink even further, turning unsightly in an instant.
He couldn’t understand how some little piece of trash from the Lower Realm now had the qualifications to be mentioned in the same breath as him.
He still remembered when he went to Cold Inch: back then his teacher, the Mu Clan’s Tianlu One, had utterly looked down on Mu Qingge, not caring about him in the slightest.
Yet it was precisely this person they had both scorned and dismissed who had climbed up step by step right under their noses, and now had even climbed to stand before them!
How could that be?!
Absolutely not!
Mu Tianyin’s gaze grew dark and vicious. He said to the Tianlu One, "Rest assured, I will kill him."
The Tianlu One turned his eyes toward him, the depth in them inscrutable as he said, "You do indeed need to kill him, because only one of you can live. The Mu Clan only needs one Young Master; whoever is strongest will be the Young Master. No one can change that, not even me."
Mu Tianyin’s heart gave a jolt as he tried to fathom the meaning behind those words.
Why... did he hear a hint of ill omen in them? He felt that his teacher, the one who had personally raised and cultivated him, no longer seemed to support him as much.
The Tianlu One walked up to him and looked into those terrifying, Yin Zhe-like eyes. "Back in Cold Inch, in my eyes you already counted as having lost. This time in the Wuhua Domain, you gained nothing at all and even helped him carry the blame—you lost again. You’ve already lost two rounds. If you lose this third round as well... you’d better think carefully about it yourself."
With that, the Tianlu One leaned on his scepter, walked around Mu Tianyin, and left his cave dwelling.
Mu Tianyin stood where he was, the Tianlu One’s words replaying over and over in his mind, and the hands hanging at his sides unconsciously clenched.
Within the cave dwelling, the sound of grinding bones rose.
...
"It’s here?" Mu Qingge stood atop a high tower, gazing into the distance. Behind her stood Yin Chen and the Divine Demon Puppet.
From the tower one could overlook most of the city and take in the full view.
But in Mu Qingge’s eyes at this moment, there was only one inconspicuous little house among all those buildings.
"Mm, he took his people into there, and his aura hasn’t disappeared since." Yin Chen nodded and said to Mu Qingge.
Mu Qingge’s eyes were cool, her tone calm. "A place that small doesn’t look like his lair. It should just be a cover on the surface. Their real lair is..."
Mu Qingge thought for a moment, then her eyes suddenly lit up as she said in a low voice, "Underground!"
"I have the same suspicion, but I was afraid of beating the grass and scaring the snake, so I didn’t sneak in to verify it." Yin Chen said.
"You did the right thing." Mu Qingge inclined her chin slightly, affirming his choice.
The Mu Clan had been hiding in the Four Seas Divine Land for tens of thousands of years; they were already extremely sensitive to any stir in the surroundings. If Yin Chen barged in rashly and alerted them, and they disappeared again, then what?
She wanted to torment Mu Tianyin before killing him, but first she had to know where he was.
"Should we station people here and move only after he comes out?" Yin Chen asked.
Mu Qingge was just about to reply when she suddenly felt a strange gust of wind rise out of nowhere, lifting the strands of hair that hung over her shoulders. Her clear eyes instantly chilled.
Yin Chen sensed it too; his blood-red eyes abruptly narrowed and he raised his hand to attack.
In response to Mu Qingge’s summons, the Divine Demon Puppet even turned, ready to charge forward.
But just as they moved, a force swept out between them. That power washed over their bodies, fixing them in place so they couldn’t even twitch; Mu Qingge was the same.
She was greatly shocked. How long had it been since she’d last encountered a clash where she had absolutely no power to fight back?
Just then, a white-robed figure slowly drifted down from the top of the tower, followed by a scepter, and then an elderly man appeared before her—his frame lean, his features chiseled, and in his eyes a trace of indifference and cold viciousness.
This old man gave her a very mysterious feeling, unfathomable. It was as if a layer of inscrutable mist shrouded him, concealing all that was real.
The moment he appeared, his gaze fell on Mu Qingge, those eyes seemingly intent on seeing straight through her.
This feeling of being dissected made Mu Qingge extremely uncomfortable.
"Tianlu One." Only when Mu Qingge blurted out those words did she realize she could still speak.
As for Yin Chen...
She swept him with the corner of her eye and found him utterly motionless, the look in his eyes frozen at that previous instant. Then she understood: this Tianlu One had something to say to her and did not want anyone else interfering.
"Good. You know who I am." The Tianlu One spoke slowly; he seemed to have long since accounted for Mu Qingge’s appearance.
Mu Qingge’s lips curved with a mocking smile. "The Tianlu One comes calling—does Mu Tianyin have some message he wants you to pass along?"
"No. He does not know you’ve already found this place." The Tianlu One slowly shook his head.
Mu Qingge’s eyes narrowed slightly; she heard the implication beneath his words. Mu Tianyin had no idea he was here to see her, and the Tianlu One had come behind Mu Tianyin’s back.
"Then what is it the Tianlu One wants from me?" Mu Qingge asked playfully.
Not a ripple showed in the Tianlu One’s expression; he was so calm he didn’t show even the slightest hint of emotion. "I came to tell you: between you and him, only one can live."
