Chapter 998: Chapter 610: Strict Hierarchy, Tomb Expansion, and Rapid Power Growth!
New Moon Governor.
Half Moon Commander.
Full Moon Lord.
Full Moon Great Lord.
Radiant Moon Great Monarch.
For any Undead in the Blood War Furnace, advancing from an Upper-tier Undead to an Undead Ruler is a single step of outright transcendence.
The strength of an Undead Ruler is at least at Glory Champion Level.
And for their promotion, they still need to obtain the consent of the Blood War Furnace’s supreme ruler, the Radiant Moon Great Monarch.
Once they advance into Undead Rulers, they become the true ruling class of the Blood War Furnace.
Without the title of Undead Ruler, even something as powerful as a Legendary Bone Dragon can only abase itself as one of the ruled.
Of course, under normal circumstances, if a Legendary Bone Dragon comes to serve under them, all Undead Rulers are more than happy to bestow a fresh ruler’s title upon it.
These Undead Rulers obey the Undead Great Monarch or other Undead Grand Lords, serving in the Great Monarch’s court, or taking posts within the Undead Legion.
This tight pyramid structure forms the law-abiding beauty of order within the Blood War Furnace—unspeakably evil, yet strictly disciplined.
............
On the Wailing Blood Plain the Merchant Group was traveling through, there were several such Undead Rulers present.
Their power was formidable, and at the same time they were actively opening up this land.
Trist’s destination was the capital of a Full Moon Lord within this stretch of the Wailing Blood Plain.
But before he reached that capital, he still had to pass through several Undead towns or fortresses.
After the Merchant Group had trudged on for another long stretch, Fang Zhou finally saw a man-made structure.
It was a towering Undead Fortress, its walls piled up from massive blood-red stone.
On the walls Fang Zhou saw a great number of Skeletons, working under the overseers’ whips.
Many Skeletons together were lifting up bricks and stone, continuing the construction of the wall.
Some Skeletons kept raising the wall ever higher, while others were thickening it.
On the ramparts Fang Zhou also saw several Undead soldiers.
These soldiers were primarily Advanced Zombies and Ghosts; of course, besides these traditional Undead, there were other Mutated Undead as well.
Including Ghouls, Hate Samurai, Flesh Butchers, and the like.
The fortress’s footprint wasn’t particularly large; it was about the same size as the Tiger Suppression Fortress Fang Zhou had guarded his first time on the battlefield.
However, the thickness and height of these walls far exceeded those of the Tiger Suppression Fortress—obviously the merit of Skeleton laborers working day and night.
One should know that a Skeleton’s strength is only at Apprentice Tier, and its physical power isn’t particularly great.
To build a fortress like this, who knows how many Skeletons had literally worked themselves to Death.
This wasn’t Fang Zhou’s conjecture; he saw it with his own eyes. Not far from the walls, many Skeleton corpses had been casually thrown aside.
And during the construction itself, Fang Zhou saw a squad of Skeletons carrying a huge boulder.
The overseeing Ghost felt this group of Skeletons was working too slowly, and began lashing them freely with a Soul Whip.
That caused the Soul Fire of those Skeletons to flicker wildly; in the end they couldn’t lift the boulder anymore and were crushed to Death beneath it.
If this were somewhere else, it might count as a sizable accident.
But this was the Blood War Furnace, and they were Skeletons.
Their Death didn’t attract anyone’s notice.
The Ghost just snapped out a few shrill curses and then went on to inspect the other Skeletons’ work progress.
The Trist Merchant Group slowly drew near the fortress, and the Undead inside showed a certain wariness toward the caravan’s approach.
The fortress gates shut swiftly, leaving only a batch of working Skeletons outside.
The Merchant Group stopped while still some distance away from the fortress, and a Ghost flew toward the fortress under Trist’s orders.
After a short round of friendly negotiations between the two sides, Trist’s Merchant Group obtained the right to remain outside the fortress.
The caravan settled not far from the fortress, while Trist himself took a small squad of guards and entered the fortress.
Naturally Fang Zhou wouldn’t pass up a chance to broaden his horizons, and went inside along with Trist.
It was clear that this fortress hadn’t been under construction for very long.
Aside from the walls, many other areas were still unfinished.
Inside the fortress, plenty of Skeletons were busy building houses.
One had to admit, Skeletons really are the strongest workers in all the myriad worlds; even worked to Death, they don’t have a shred of complaint.
Fang Zhou followed Trist onward, and at the doorway of a great hall he was stopped.
Obviously, he couldn’t follow any further, and Fang Zhou had no objections to that.
The owner of the Merchant Group was, after all, Trist the Vampire Blood Moon Merchant; Fang Zhou himself was nothing more than a hired mercenary.
The high tower within the fortress was clearly the residence of this fortress’s master.
At the door stood two Vampire Nobles, Golden Tier Undead Guards.
And in that instant when the door opened and closed, Fang Zhou also saw that the fortress’s master was a rarely seen Corpse Witch.
The strength of Upper-tier Undead ranges from Gold to Glory Champion.
The Corpse Witch before him clearly hadn’t been promoted for long. It was still a Golden Tier Corpse Witch, not a Glory Champion Level Lich.
However, its Tier had already been raised; perhaps it wouldn’t be long before, by squeezing enough power from harvested Spiritual Bodies, it advanced to Glory Champion Tier.
With the fortress’s commander only at Golden Tier, Fang Zhou didn’t feel particularly concerned.
Within this fortress there wouldn’t be any existence stronger than this Corpse Witch.
The strength of most Undead can be judged by their race and body size.
In this fortress, even without spreading out his Soul Fire to probe and only using his eyes, Fang Zhou had practically laid bare the Corpse Witch’s details.
Aside from a few Undead he hadn’t seen indoors, the number of Undead outside whose strength reached Golden Tier added up to no more than ten.
Beyond these Golden Tier Undead, the fortress’s garrison probably numbered a bit over two thousand, the majority of them Advanced Zombies—Bronze Tier Undead.
Just as Fang Zhou had read in the Blood War Furnace encyclopedias, as Golden Level beings, such existences are already High Tier powerhouses anywhere in the Undead Realm, Bottomless Abyss, or any corner of the Mythical World.
If Fang Zhou were willing to pledge himself to an Undead Ruler right now, he would be received with great enthusiasm.
As Fang Zhou’s gaze swept over them, some Middle and Low Tier Undead sensed the powerful aura on him; they all lowered their heads in respect.
After quite a while, Trist finally emerged from the tower, his face wreathed in smiles, and beckoned Fang Zhou to leave the fortress together.
On the way out, seeing Trist’s expression, Fang Zhou couldn’t help asking curiously, "Lord Trist, looks like you’re going to make a hefty pile of Blood Moon Coins this time, huh?"
Trist forcibly restrained his grin and said, "Not bad. Business on the Wailing Blood Plain really is much easier to do!"
Trist didn’t say how much he’d sold. After returning to the Merchant Group, he immediately called his Ghost steward over.
Fang Zhou stayed by his side, ready to see what Trist had just sold to this fortress.
The originally empty space inside the fortress grew more and more crowded as Trist pulled out large piles of goods from his Space Equipment.
The bulk of this transaction’s goods were Armor forged from Undead Metal; every piece of Armor was Enchanted.
Faint Rune-light flowed across the surface of these Armors, ranging from Bronze Tier Equipment all the way up to Golden Tier.
Although the Undead’s own skin already offered decent physical Defense and Magic Resistance,
if Armor is available, who would be willing to use their own bodies to directly withstand enemy attacks?
Besides the Armor, there were still more weapons.
These were also Enchanted Equipment.
Though the craftsmanship of these pieces wasn’t exactly delicate, the materials were solid, and their power was likewise respectable.
Large batches of weapons, Arrows, and throwing Short Spears were taken out box after box by Trist, piled up in the fortress’s open yard.
