Seraphina felt a knot loosen inside her chest.

For one fleeting moment, she wanted to smile, to rush forward and pull him into an embrace, to pretend that everything was fine and that the rift between them had never existed.

But she restrained herself.

Because although Cassian’s words were deeply reassuring, something about the tone of his voice troubled her.

There was no casual warmth in his voice, no lingering ease with which he usually addressed her.

Instead, there was absolute resolve, the kind of firm resolve that emerged when a person accepted that things could never truly return to the way they used to be.

Cassian wasn’t trying to pretend the reveal hadn’t happened.

He was accepting reality as it was.

And that quiet shift frightened Seraphina almost as much as his earlier fear.

”However,” Cassian continued, his gaze unwavering, “things can’t simply return to how they were.”

Seraphina’s heart sank into her stomach.

”You’re my mother. That’s an absolute fact that won’t change, regardless of your origins,” Cassian said. “But pretending that the other part of your existence doesn’t matter would only lead to eventual disaster.”

He paused, choosing his next words with utmost precision. “Not just for you, but for Ruby as well.”

Seraphina’s eyes widened. For a moment, she forgot how to breathe.

Ruby.

Her granddaughter.

The innocent little girl who brought so much warmth into their home, whose bright laughter could clear the darkest room, and who knew absolutely nothing about the primordial dark surrounding her grandmother’s origins.

Seraphina had been so consumed by the immediate fear of losing Cassian that she hadn’t fully considered what her secret meant for the rest of her family.

If her origins concealed an active, existential threat, Ruby could easily be caught in the crossfire.

And if Cassian’s worst suspicions proved correct, the consequences would be catastrophic.

Seraphina’s eyes grew moist. She tried to maintain her composure, but her voice betrayed her fragile state. “Don’t tell me…”

She swallowed hard, her voice coming out like a desperate plea. “Don’t tell me you plan to leave me.”

Cassian immediately shook his head. “No. I have no intention of doing that.”

He stepped closer to the sofa.

For a moment, he simply looked at his mother, taking in the raw uncertainty in her eyes and the way her shoulders trembled.

Then, he opened his arms and pulled her into a firm embrace.

Seraphina froze in surprise.

Cassian held her tight, one hand resting gently against the back of her head. “Mother, I’m not abandoning you.”

His voice was quiet, but every word carried absolute, unbreakable conviction.

”Whatever happened in your past, we’ll uncover it together. You don’t have to face it alone, and you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. If there are answers to be found, I’ll help you find them.”

Seraphina’s lips trembled violently.

Cassian tightened his hold slightly. “I don’t know what we’ll discover when we start digging into your past. I don’t know whether the truth will be something we can accept easily, or whether it will reveal threats we haven’t even begun to imagine.”

He paused, letting the reality of his words sink in.

”But I know one thing. You’re my mother, and I’m not going to abandon you just because your past is complicated.”

His expression hardened into pure, uncompromising determination.

”If something is threatening you, we’ll eliminate it. If something is hunting you, we’ll crush it. And if your origins are tied to something powerful enough to threaten our family, then I will simply become strong enough to confront it.”

Cassian lowered his head, speaking directly beside her ear. “I will grow stronger than anyone in the cosmos could ever imagine. Strong enough that if anyone decides you don’t deserve to live because of what you once were… they’ll have to answer to me first.”

His grip tightened further. “I don’t care whether they’re Lords, Divine Blessed, or beings that have existed since before this universe was born. If they want to take you away from me, they will have to go through me.”

He drew back just enough to look directly into her eyes. “I swear it, Mother.”

For a long moment, Seraphina could only stare at him in stunned silence.

Then, her carefully maintained composure completely crumbled.

She buried her face against his chest, her fingers clutching the fabric of his shirt as a choked sob escaped her throat. “Thank you…”

Her voice broke. “Thank you, Cassian… thank you…”

The words came out between quiet, weeping breaths, releasing years of silent, suffocating fear she had carried alone.

She had been terrified that revealing the truth would destroy her family, that her son would reject her, see her as a monster, and drift forever beyond her reach.

Yet here he was, holding her.

He hadn’t offered empty promises that everything was fine, nor had he pretended that her dark past didn’t matter. Instead, he had promised to stand before the cosmos and fight it beside her.

And to her, that meant more than any hollow reassurance ever could.

Cassian held his mother as she wept against his shoulder, making no move to hurry her or quiet her tears. He simply stayed, serving as her solid pillar.

For all his raw power, his three Divine Blessings, and the cosmic knowledge he held, he understood that sometimes the most important thing a man could do was protect those who needed him most.

A short distance away, Nyxara watched the scene in absolute silence.

The shadow elf’s expression softened as she observed the mother and son. She had arrived in this world expecting to help her Lord navigate a crisis of faith, only to witness something far more profound.

Cassian wasn’t just driven by ambition, he was fiercely protective of the family he loved, willing to stand against cosmic horrors to keep them safe.

Nyxara bowed her head slightly, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips.

‘I’m glad.’

Whatever dark secrets lay buried in Seraphina’s past, and whatever cosmic dangers awaited them in the future, she hoped this family would always remain whole.

Because in a universe filled with ruthless power struggles, some bonds were worth tearing down galaxies to protect.

And watching Cassian hold his mother, Nyxara knew she would follow him into whatever abyss lay ahead.
