Chapter 224 -226: Fu Feng’s Origins

The Black Pig Tribe.

A bonfire was lit in the square. The people of the Black Pig Tribe sang and danced, celebrating the salt they had obtained from the Salt Well Cave.

Surrounded by the crowd, Su Nuannuan put on the Bone Chain, an honor reserved for those who had made outstanding contributions to the tribe.

Everyone saw her as a hero and was completely convinced of her merit.

Hei Mao reported with a smile, “My lady, Feng Huo, the leader of the Flower Jackal Tribe, has already gathered his elites and gone to the Salt Well Cave. I believe it won’t be long before they fight until both sides are crippled.”

Su Nuannuan raised an eyebrow, her expression full of smug satisfaction. “No rush. We’ll wait a little longer. They should be just starting to fight now. We’ll go over when they’re more heavily wounded. That way, we can take the Salt Well Cave without losing a single soldier.”

Listening to this, Hei Feng wrapped his arm around Su Nuannuan and laughed heartily. “With Nuannuan here, our Black Pig Tribe is getting better and better.”

…

The Wolf Clan Tribe.

Fu Feng recounted the events to Su Yang, who furrowed his brow. “It seems the Salt Well Cave has been exposed after all. What are Luoluo’s plans?”

Mo Xuan said slowly, “The Flower Jackal Tribe will most likely retaliate, and may even send more elites to occupy the Salt Well Cave. The leader needs to prepare as soon as possible.”

“I’ll gather the tribe right away and head for Sheep Waist Valley.”

“What about the Ring-tailed Lemurs? Do they have a plan?”

“Luoluo hasn’t said anything for now. The plan is to hold our position.”

“Alright. I’ll go inform them. Once everything is packed, I’ll have the tribe set out.”

To guard against a potential attack from the Flower Jackal Tribe, Fu Feng, Mo Xuan, and Nantu stood watch over the Wolf Clan Tribe for a full day. Only after the tribe had departed did the three of them, still uneasy, return to the Salt Well Cave.

…

Inside the Salt Well Cave, Bai Meng, Xiao Ye, and Luan Ting took turns keeping watch through the night, vigilant for any sneak attacks from the Fire Bird or the Flower Jackal Tribe.

Su Luoluo leaned against the cave wall, dozing fitfully.

Although she had treated Xi Yi’s external injuries with her Wood Element Ability, he was still hurt. Worried he might develop a fever, she remained in a state of half-sleep.

It wasn’t until the next morning, when she felt a warmth on her waist, that Su Luoluo realized Xi Yi had woken up at some point.

His hand was caressing her waist. When he realized Su Luoluo had noticed, his dark eyes shimmered with a watery light. “Luoluo, my back hurts?”

Seeing his restless hands and knowing he had the presence of mind to think about other things, Su Luoluo knew he was faking it.

She pried his hand off her waist and was just about to ask how he was doing.

Just then, Xiao Ye’s purple eyes stared directly at him. With a flick of his tail, he placed it between Su Luoluo and Xi Yi, his voice cold. “Talk. What exactly happened yesterday? What’s the deal with that bird?”

‘Luoluo is a female with little combat experience, so it’s normal for her not to recognize some things. But this guy right here exchanged a few blows with that bird yesterday; he must know something.’

‘Besides, he’d long had a feeling that this Xi Yi fellow’s strength was not to be underestimated. He wasn’t as simple as he appeared on the surface.’

As soon as Xiao Ye spoke, Bai Meng and Luan Ting also woke up and looked over.

It wasn’t just Xiao Ye who had questions about the matter; the other two did as well.

Xi Yi saw Xiao Ye’s domineering snake tail and narrowed his eyes slightly. He nuzzled his head against Su Luoluo’s neck, his voice pitiful. “Luoluo, I’m not even better yet and they’re already bullying me.”

The nuzzling tickled Su Luoluo. She wanted to shove him away, but then she remembered he had saved her yesterday, so she held back. She patted his shoulder and said, “Move away a little. My neck is too itchy.”

Hearing this, Xi Yi stared at her intently. “Your neck is itchy? Should I blow on it for you?”

As he spoke, he opened his mouth, about to do just that.

Xiao Ye’s brow furrowed as he watched. He pulled Su Luoluo away. “Speak properly. You’re injured, not castrated.”

Xiao Ye’s words made Su Luoluo burst out laughing. ‘This Xiao Ye really can be vicious with his words sometimes.’

Hearing this, Xi Yi’s eyelids drooped, and his tone became passive-aggressive. “Some people are talking so tough now. If it weren’t for me yesterday, someone would be dead.”

Xiao Ye knew he was in the wrong and, for once, said nothing.

Su Luoluo also knew that yesterday’s incident couldn’t be blamed on Xiao Ye. After all, who could have known a bird would suddenly charge at them?

She shot Xi Yi a glance. “That’s enough out of you. Be serious for a moment. What was that Phoenix Order from yesterday? How was it so powerful?”

Seeing Su Luoluo’s expression turn serious, Xi Yi straightened up. “As far as I know, the Phoenix Order is an exclusive token that only a Phoenix Elder should possess. I have no idea how that bird got one yesterday. The techniques it enables are originally exclusive to Heavenly Beasts of the Ninth Rank or higher. However, because her own strength is a bit weak, she only managed to unleash seventy percent of its Power. Even so, that Power was immense.”

Su Luoluo was stunned. ‘Techniques of the Ninth Rank and above… No wonder I couldn’t withstand it yesterday.’

“What did you say? That bird from yesterday can use the Phoenix Order?”

Xi Yi had barely finished speaking when Fu Feng asked, his face a mask of astonishment.

Seeing Fu Feng approach, Su Luoluo was puzzled. “Why are you here? Have Father and the others already left?”

Nantu nodded. “The leader has already set out. He was worried something might happen to you, so he sent us over.”

“But if you all came here, they might not be safe.”

“The leader took them on a smaller path. The Flower Jackal Tribe shouldn’t be able to find them.”

Su Luoluo finally relaxed upon hearing this.

Luan Ting heard the surprise in Fu Feng’s voice and asked, “What’s wrong with using the Phoenix Order? From your tone, it sounds like you know her.”

“Only the elders of the Phoenix Clan can use the Phoenix Order. They don’t know Luoluo, so there’s no reason to use such a powerful technique on her.”

“But Luoluo said she called you Brother Feng, didn’t she?” Xiao Ye looked at Fu Feng with a smirk, then sneered, “Shouldn’t you explain to us what your relationship is with that bird?”

“No! Xiao Ye, you’re wronging me! How would I know who she is? I’ve never even seen her before. Besides, like I just said, only Phoenix Clan elders can use the Phoenix Order. The only female Phoenix is a nine-hundred-year-old great-aunt. She’s so old, why would she have a grudge against Luoluo?”

“Really? You’re sure you don’t know her?” Bai Meng said, sounding unconvinced.

Su Fufeng nodded. “I’m sure I don’t know her.”

Su Luoluo asked curiously, “How do you know that the Phoenix Clan currently only has one nine-hundred-year-old great-aunt?”

As soon as Su Luoluo spoke, several pairs of eyes turned to Fu Feng.

Under everyone’s gaze, Fu Feng rubbed his head, looking a bit embarrassed. “Because… that great-aunt is my grandmother.”

“An ancient Phoenix is your grandmother? Fu Feng, you’ve got quite the background, don’t you?” Mo Xuan teased.

Su Luoluo had thought that a clean freak like Fu Feng must have an extraordinary background, perhaps the son of some city-state lord, but she had never imagined he would have a connection to the Phoenix Clan.

Listening to all this, Xi Yi’s eyes darted back and forth. “Luoluo, I almost never saw you again yesterday. I even took a hit from a Ninth-Rank Phoenix Order for you. This time, you can finally form a contract with me, right?”
