Chapter 219 -221: Something’s Wrong in the Head

“This is a new food Luoluo found. She asked me to distribute it to everyone, saying we can eat our fill without having to go out and hunt.”

After breakfast, Su Yang made an announcement in the plaza.

The words had barely left his mouth when many in the tribe erupted in an uproar.

“Food? Did Luoluo make a new kind of food again?”

“I’m so excited! Everything Luoluo makes is always super delicious.”

“You can say that again. I’m starting to drool already.”

“Leader, what’s this new food Luoluo made? Hurry up and show us!”

Hearing Su Yang’s words, the tribespeople were already eager to see it.

Su Yang gestured for the tribespeople to quiet down and said in a deep voice, “This time, it’s not just a snack. It’s a staple food. Luoluo said that you just boil it in water and it’s ready to eat. It can fill our stomachs.”

With that, he looked at Cai Xia and said, “Show everyone.”

Hearing this, Cai Xia nodded. She held a clay pot of cooked rice in her left hand and a handful of uncooked rice in her right. “This white stuff in my right hand is the rice Luoluo gave me,” she said. “She told me that after boiling it in water, it becomes the fluffy white rice in the clay pot in my left hand.”

“I ate it with braised fish yesterday. I was full after just five or six mouthfuls. It’s very filling, and the texture is great—fragrant and soft.”

“You don’t need to say any more, Cai Xia! If Luoluo says it’s delicious, it must be delicious. We trust her. Just teach us how to cook this stuff called rice.”

“Yeah, we trust Luoluo.”

Su Yang had originally thought he would have to explain at length to convince people to try this new food. He never expected them to accept it after only a few sentences.

‘Looks like they have a very high level of acceptance for things Luoluo makes!’

He smiled and nodded. “Alright then. Cai Xia, you can teach everyone how to cook rice later. For now, I’ll distribute the rice stalks.”

“Oh, right, I forgot to mention. Luoluo hasn’t milled that much rice, so everyone will receive bundles of these rice stalks. There’s a stone pestle over there. Everyone can make one just like it, then go home and mill the rice yourselves before eating it.”

“As for how to mill the rice, Cai Xia’s Beastman husbands, Yi De and Er De, will show you all.”

After speaking, Su Yang began distributing the rice stalks.

While Hei Mao and Huang Mao were leading their men to stake out the Wolf Clan Tribe, they saw the tribespeople joyfully distributing piles of what looked like yellow, withered grass.

Seeing this, Hei Mao was completely baffled. “Didn’t the madam say the Wolf Clan Tribe was going to be dealing with salt? Why are they moving around piles of withered grass?”

Another Black Pig Beastman added, “Exactly. They’re all so happy holding that withered grass. I wonder if there’s something wrong with the Wolf Clan’s heads.”

“No matter what, wolves are carnivorous Beastmen. How have they ended up no different from grass-eating sheep Beastmen?”

“Hong Shuang has it rough. I almost feel sorry for her, having to eat nothing but withered grass every day.”

Seeing the yellow, withered grass in her hands, Hong Shuang had mixed feelings. She couldn’t understand how the Wolf Clan Tribe could believe Su Luoluo’s words, treating this withered grass like a treasure and smiling so happily.

‘Even though this stuff can be made into rice,’ she thought, ‘no matter how you cook it, it’s still just a seed. It would be strange if you didn’t feel sick after eating too much of it.’

During the plague, their tribe had eaten a lot of wild fruits, so much that their faces turned green.

‘This white stuff probably isn’t much better.’

‘My letter has been sent. I wonder what Su Nuannuan will do.’

‘Su Yang called for Su Zhao early this morning, and he’s been gone ever since. Could he have already left?’

‘Su Zhao is usually so simple-minded, but when it comes to the salt, he becomes incredibly shrewd. I tried to subtly question him for a long time yesterday but got nothing out of him. His lips are sealed tight.’

‘I even gave him my first kiss, but that brat just took the kiss and didn’t say a single word more.’

‘It’s a good thing Brother Hei Feng doesn’t know, or I’d have no idea how to explain myself to him later.’

After distributing a portion of the rice stalks to the Wolf Clan Tribe, Su Luoluo had Si Cheng hand out the rest.

The Fox-tailed Fox Monkey Beastmen were also puzzled by this unfamiliar item.

However, Su Luoluo had cooked some rice for them to see beforehand, so they didn’t dwell on it.

After all, their leader had managed to save them from the plague; was there anything she couldn’t do?

The Ring-tailed Lemurs lined up to receive the rice stalks, thanking Su Luoluo gratefully.

“Thank you, leader!”

“Thank you, leader!”

“Thank you, leader!”

…

When Si Cheng saw Su Luoluo, he also nodded in thanks. “Thank you, leader.”

Su Luoluo waved her hand. “You’re all people of my tribe. As long as I have a bite to eat, you will too.”

Then, she looked at Si Cheng and said, “There’s something I need your help with.”

“What is it?”

Su Luoluo said, looking a bit worried, “It’s about my Mother. Xi Yi gave me an address—Shear Mountain, east of White Bear Mountain. I need you to make a trip there for me.”

Si Cheng nodded upon hearing her words.

…

At noon, the aroma of cooking rice drifted over the Wolf Clan Tribe, and the few Black Pig Beastmen who smelled it felt an unbearable itch of craving.

“That withered grass actually seems pretty delicious. It smells really fragrant.”

“Yeah, I want to eat some too. I’m still hungry after eating just wild fruits for lunch.”

“Boss, why don’t we go get some to eat?”

“Eat what? The mission is what’s important. If you want to eat this, wait until we get back to our tribe and have the madam make it.”

Hearing Huang Mao’s scolding, the other Black Pig Beastmen didn’t dare say another word. They endured their craving until evening, when they finally saw someone from the Wolf Clan about to head out.

Hei Mao shook his Black Pig legs, which had gone numb from squatting, and lifted his head. “They’re finally coming out. Let’s go, brothers.”

After night fell, Su Luoluo set out for the Salt Well Cave with several of her Beastman husbands and a few members of the Wolf Clan.

Seeing Su Zhao was with them, Su Luoluo was a bit surprised. “Why are you here?”

‘If he’s here, does that mean Hong Shuang knows too?’

Su Luoluo was suspicious of Hong Shuang, but with no proof, she couldn’t just say something directly. Not only would Su Zhao refuse to listen, but even Su Yang wouldn’t believe her. That’s why she had only mentioned to Su Yang that they should be wary of her.

The moment she saw Su Zhao arrive, Su Luoluo felt as if her warning had been for nothing, and she couldn’t help but ask.

“What do you mean by that? Why can’t I come?” Hearing this, Su Zhao’s brows knitted together, and he glared angrily at Su Luoluo.

From Su Zhao’s words, Su Luoluo realized he had misunderstood.

She paused for a moment before saying, “That’s not what I meant. I was just surprised because you didn’t come last time.”

Hearing Su Luoluo say that, Su Zhao’s mood improved considerably. He huffed lightly and said, “Father told me to come. He said that when you have your cubs later, I’ll be the one to purify the salt.”

Hearing this, Su Luoluo had a belated realization. When her belly got bigger later on, purifying salt would certainly be inconvenient.

Su Yang’s arrangement was indeed a sensible one.
