Chapter 180: Chapter 182: An Unexpected Visitor

Su Luoluo let out a huge sigh of relief, then changed her clothes and left her little wooden cabin.

Ever since they had started cooking meals communally, Su Luoluo hadn’t spent much time at the outdoor kitchen, preferring to eat breakfast with the rest of the tribe.

She had taught Cai Xia how to make the various bread and noodle dishes for breakfast. Cai Xia was a fast learner, so the tribe’s breakfasts were now mostly handled by her, Ah Zhu, and the other females.

Su Luoluo was happy to have the free time, only occasionally offering them a few pointers.

These females were also quite eager to learn, and they quickly corrected any mistakes she pointed out.

As for Lan Ya, ever since Su Luoluo had told her she could eat something else if she didn’t like the food, she hadn’t shown her face again, terrified that Su Luoluo would cut off her meals.

As breakfast was winding down, Su Zhao approached, leading another person.

Su Yang was a bit surprised when he saw the newcomer. "Bai Meng, what brings you here?"

Bai Meng didn’t speak. His hair was a mess, and his face was etched with exhaustion. He clearly wasn’t in a good mood.

Su Zhao looked at his friend with a pained expression and answered for him. "The White Tiger Tribe was hit by a plague. Unfortunately, they all perished. Only Bai Meng is left."

"What? You’re saying everyone from the White Tiger Tribe is gone? This is no small matter. Are you sure you have the facts straight?" Su Yang’s pupils contracted, his voice filled with disbelief.

Su Zhao nodded. "It’s true. Bai Meng went to the city-state to trade for salt a few days ago, which is how he escaped."

"Father, now that Bai Meng is the only one left from the White Tiger Tribe, let’s take him in. He’s strong and can be a great help to us," Su Zhao said to Su Yang, unable to bear seeing his friend so alone and desolate.

On the Beast World Continent, it was difficult to survive without banding together. Nearly all races lived in tribes. A lone individual, no matter how high their Beastification Level, was always vulnerable to being bullied.

As Bai Meng’s good friend, Su Zhao felt that staying here was the best thing for him.

Bai Meng was quite strong, so accepting him into the tribe was certainly possible.

But considering what had happened to Bai Meng’s tribe, Su Yang had to be extra cautious.

He thought for a moment and then asked, "So how did you survive? Weren’t you infected by the plague?"

Bai Meng shook his head. "As soon as I set foot in the tribe, I saw a message my father left on a beast skin, warning me that they were infected and telling me to stay away from the tribe, to leave them be."

’A parent’s love for their child runs deep!’

He and Bai Meng’s father had known each other for a long time, and he knew what kind of man he was. He wouldn’t have done such a thing unless he had been forced into a desperate situation.

Hearing this, Su Yang nodded. "Bai Meng, you can stay. You’ll have some support with us."

"Thank you, Uncle Su."

Su Yang nodded and was about to say something more when he glanced over at Su Luoluo. Seeing her staring at Bai Meng, he asked her, "Luoluo, there shouldn’t be any problem with Bai Meng staying, right?"

He had seen everything Su Luoluo had done regarding the plague these past few days. If she hadn’t acted so decisively, swiftly having them cremate Ah Dong and Ah Xi, their tribe wouldn’t be as stable as it was now. The entire tribe was safe and sound. Otherwise, they might have ended up like the White Tiger Tribe—wiped out completely.

Seeing her giving Bai Meng a few extra glances, he decided to ask her, just in case.

Su Luoluo nodded. "Of course. For the safety of the tribe, he needs to be quarantined in a cabin for five days. Once we’re sure there’s no issue, he can be let out."

When Su Zhao heard this, he immediately grew angry. "Su Luoluo, don’t you go too far! Bai Meng has come to us for refuge, and you want to humiliate him like this?"

In response to Su Zhao’s accusation, Su Luoluo applied the same standard. "You were in close contact with him. You need to be isolated, too."

"Su Luoluo, you...! Father, look at her attitude!" Su Zhao was fuming.

"That’s enough. What your sister said isn’t wrong. For safety’s sake, this is what we must do."

Su Yang cut him off and turned to Bai Meng. "Bai Meng, my apologies. For the tribe’s safety, we’ll have to trouble you to stay in a cabin for a few days. After you come out, Uncle Su will hold a proper welcome for you!"

Bai Meng nodded. "It’s what I must do. Thank you, Uncle Su, for taking me in."

Instead of feeling offended, Bai Meng was completely understanding.

He had been raised by his father as the heir since he was young. When it came to the safety of his clansmen, if it were him, he would do the same.

Seeing Bai Meng accept it so calmly, Su Yang’s expression relaxed considerably.

’This kid is sensible, unlike my own foolish son.’

’Compared to Bai Meng’s father, I still have a lot to teach my own son!’

When Bai Meng had met up with Su Zhao, he had listened to a tirade of complaints about how Su Luoluo was causing so much trouble, forbidding this and that, and was just a huge pain.

But when he saw that the Wolf Clan Tribe hadn’t fallen into chaos because of the plague and that everything was well-managed, he thought Su Luoluo was a very intelligent female.

’If my White Tiger Clan could have done this, my mother and father might not have died, and my people would probably still be alive and well, just like the Wolf Clan.’

Bai Meng stayed in the wooden cabin. Although he had nothing to do, his ears were never idle. Every day, he could hear members of the Wolf Clan Tribe praising Su Luoluo.

"Luoluo, I never thought taro stems could be eaten like this. It’s really good."

"Yeah, it’s sour and crunchy. Even better than meat!"

"Meat? I don’t even crave it now. Since I started learning to cook from Luoluo, I’ve gained several pounds."

...

’She really seems to know how to cook.’

His suspicion was soon confirmed at lunchtime.

The Wolf Clan treated him very well. Aside from not letting him out, they arranged excellent food and lodging for him.

The meal in front of him had been prepared and left outside for him.

To his surprise, the bowl holding the food was made of pottery.

He had seen the Wolf Clan Tribe use pottery bowls during the Moon God Festival before and had assumed they were just for guests.

After all, his own tribe also had a few pieces of pottery bought from the city-state, which were only used when guests visited.

These items were very expensive and rarely used.

But the Wolf Clan Tribe used this pottery just to deliver his meal, which showed just how prosperous the Wolf Clan Tribe truly was.

The food in the bowl was something he had never eaten before. The dish was divided in two. On the left was something yellow, cut into a wavy pattern, and sprinkled with something green. It smelled especially fragrant.

On the right were dark green leaves that had a fresh, sour aroma and also looked quite delicious.

Bai Meng didn’t consider himself a glutton, but smelling this fragrance, he couldn’t help his mouth from watering.

Picking up the two sticks placed on top, he lifted a piece of the yellow food to his mouth.

The first bite made his eyebrows shoot up.

’What is this? It’s incredible.’

’So crispy and fragrant.’

He now completely agreed with what that female had said: this was even better than beast meat.
