Chapter 166: Chapter 168: Too Much Sourness

Su Luoluo had originally planned only to pick some wild fruits for fruit vinegar. But after Fu Feng’s bout of showing off, she ended up with double the amount.

It would be a shame to throw away all these wild fruits, so Su Luoluo decided to use some to make fruit jam and the rest for a sour soup hot pot.

With the jam, she could make some bread to eat it with.

However, finishing such a large jar of jam would be quite an undertaking.

Besides, Su Luoluo was a classic carb lover. She was fine eating things like bread and jam a few times, but she couldn’t eat it regularly.

Su Luoluo thought for a moment, then turned to Fu Feng, who was admiring his reflection in the water vat. "Can you get me some milk?"

Fu Feng nodded upon hearing her question. "I can. There’s a herd of cows on a wild slope not far from here. They produce milk often. Are you making milk tea?"

As an avian, Fu Feng wasn’t actually a fan of milk produced by Beastmen. He always found it had a gamey taste that was absolutely disgusting.

But after trying the milk tea Su Luoluo made last time, he found it acceptable. It was sweet and much better than drinking it raw.

"Where would I get enough tea leaves for milk tea? Just bring some back, and you’ll see later. I’m going to make you all a new kind of delicacy."

There were only two tea bushes brought back from Heavenly God Mountain, and Su Luoluo had long since plucked them bare.

She had made the few tender green leaves into tea, but the supply was limited. She couldn’t bear to waste it on milk tea.

Besides, she wasn’t craving something sweet right now; she wanted something sour. So this time, she was going to make yogurt.

Fu Feng nodded and vanished on the spot in a flash.

After Fu Feng left, Su Luoluo started preparing the ingredients she had on hand.

She planned to make a sour soup hot pot for the evening. The sour sauce, made from the stir-fried wild fruits and added to boiling water, was absolutely delicious.

She had made it a few times before, and her Beastmen loved it too, so Su Luoluo made a larger portion this time.

There weren’t many seasonal wild vegetables left, so Su Luoluo just picked whatever she could find.

Back when resources were abundant, she felt the wild vegetables she gathered were an inexhaustible supply. But looking at the small patch before her, Su Luoluo thought, ’I could start cultivating seeds and grow some vegetables myself. That way, I can just pick them whenever I want.’

With that in mind, she gathered some seeds from vegetables that had already flowered and fruited, and took them back with her.

Just after she brought back the hot pot ingredients, Fu Feng returned as well.

He handed the milk he had gotten to Su Luoluo. She took it, then found a clean, dry jar and poured the milk inside.

Next, she added some firewood underneath and removed it once bubbles started forming around the edges of the pot as the milk heated up.

Yogurt doesn’t require the milk to be scalding hot; otherwise, it won’t ferment easily.

Once the milk naturally cooled to a lukewarm temperature, Su Luoluo poured it into another jar that could retain heat, covered the top with a lid, and left it to ferment naturally.

’Adding a yogurt starter would make it more successful, but since this is my first time, I’ll have to rely on natural fermentation. Once it works, I can save the culture to use next time.’

Fu Feng watched Su Luoluo boil the milk, pour it into another jar, and cover it with a beast skin just like she did with the wild fruits. He asked, confused, "Didn’t you say you were getting milk to drink? Won’t it spoil if you cover it up like that?"

Things would go sour and moldy if left out for too long. Fu Feng didn’t understand why Su Luoluo was doing this.

Su Luoluo placed the yogurt jar on the ground and said, "That’s exactly the flavor I’m going for. You’ll understand tomorrow when you eat it."

"Huh? We have to wait until tomorrow?" Fu Feng sounded a little disappointed. He had thought they could eat it today.

Su Luoluo patted his shoulder. "Good food is worth the wait."

Making the sour soup hot pot was a quick process. Just as Su Luoluo finished washing the ingredients, her several Beastmen arrived.

Seeing Fu Feng buzzing around Su Luoluo so early in the day, the others glanced over and rolled their eyes.

’His eagerness was just unbearable to watch.’

’Isn’t it just his turn to keep watch?’

’And what’s with that flashy outfit? It’s like he’s afraid people won’t know he’s spending the night with Su Luoluo. Such a show-off.’

Mo Xuan looked at Fu Feng’s all-green feather skirt and curled his lip. ’What’s so great about a single color? It’s not as good-looking as my multi-colored clothes.’

’Fu Feng has terrible taste.’

Nantu watched Fu Feng, who was all dressed up, and was reminded of his own time with Su Luoluo yesterday when all he did was sing. A wave of regret washed over him.

Xiao Ye looked down on Fu Feng’s idiotic behavior. ’Why bother with all that flashy nonsense?’

’A true Beastman doesn’t need external embellishments to show off his charm.’

Xi Yi sized Fu Feng up, a slight smile playing on his lips. ’This showy peacock has clearly been pent-up for too long and can’t hold it in anymore. Why else would he be dressed so ostentatiously?’

He then glanced at the others around the table. Everyone’s expression shifted, whether obviously or subtly, with one exception. Luan Ting was quietly eating his sour soup hot pot, his eyes betraying no emotion.

’His composure is quite good.’

’I wonder if he’s that confident, or if it’s just an act?’

After dinner, Fu Feng started getting restless, stealing glances at Su Luoluo.

His looks were so obvious that it was hard for Su Luoluo to ignore them.

But she paid him no mind.

’With people like Fu Feng, the more you acknowledge them, the more they act up. It’s better to just ignore him and let his imagination run wild for his own amusement.’

Fu Feng waited for a while, but Su Luoluo still didn’t look at him, so he shot her a flirtatious look.

When Su Luoluo saw it, she nearly threw up.

’How did I never realize Fu Feng was such a showboat before?’

To be honest, the gesture wasn’t cringey coming from Fu Feng’s green Phoenix Eyes. It was just that whenever Su Luoluo remembered the little cowlick sticking up from his head earlier in the day, she found it hard to look him straight in the face.

She pursed her lips, about to say something, when a Wolf-eared Beastman from the tribe came over to deliver a message. "The leader requests the six Beastmen to come to the plaza. He says he has something important to discuss with you."

The men nodded. Xi Yi, however, sounded a little surprised. "Does that include me?"

The Wolf-eared Beastman nodded.

Xi Yi found it strange. Su Yang had always been wary of him, yet today he was actually being invited to participate in tribal affairs.

’Besides, I’m pretty sure I heard him say ’six Beastmen.’ Does that mean he’s finally acknowledged me?’

’That cunning wolf. I’ve lived in this tribe for so long, and he’s never once stated his position. Now he’s finally relenting.’

Xi Yi raised an eyebrow and followed the others to the plaza.

They all moved quickly, except for Fu Feng.

He was extremely reluctant to leave. This was a hard-won opportunity for him tonight. ’Don’t tell me Su Yang is going to ruin it just like that!’

He reluctantly left the outdoor kitchen, looking back at Su Luoluo with every step, an aggrieved expression on his face.

’If anyone else tries to ruin my watch tonight, I’ll make them regret it.’
