Chapter 164: Chapter 166: The Carefully Prepared Fu Feng

Luan Ting also found it difficult to sleep after hearing it. He had originally thought he wouldn’t care about these things; after all, of all the men, Su Luoluo liked him the most.

But thinking about it and actually hearing it were two different things.

Even someone as cool and detached as Nantu was now trying to sing for Su Luoluo to get her attention.

’Will she remember more and more people in the future?’

’Will only a small part of her heart be left for me?’

’After all, novelty is always a powerful thing.’

’Xi Yi today was a perfect example.’

He couldn’t help but reminisce about the days when he and Su Zhao fought over Su Luoluo as children. Back then, her eyes were only for him.

But even so, he was confident he could ensure he always had a place in Su Luoluo’s heart.

’After all, besides me, who could possibly understand Su Luoluo better?’

As his thoughts drifted, Luan Ting closed his eyes and slowly fell asleep.

Xi Yi listened to his subordinate’s report, all while the enchanting song played in the background.

A playful expression crossed his face as he said, "This future female of mine seems quite extraordinary! She certainly knows how to enjoy life. She gets to listen so easily to a mermaid’s song, something so rarely heard."

"Young Master," the one giving the report chimed in, seizing the chance to flatter him, "once the City Lord’s Wife sees your good qualities, she’ll be sure to like you very much."

Xi Yi smacked him on the head. "You sure know what to say."

The young Black Bear Beastman rubbed his head and said with a grin, "I’m just telling the truth. Our master is so wonderful, there’s no way the Heavenly Destiny Girl won’t like you."

Xi Yi snorted. "What good is her ’like’? She likes so many people."

The young Black Bear Beastman was surprised and was about to ask Xi Yi why he would say such a thing.

But Xi Yi’s next words cut him off. "What’s the status on Su Luoluo’s Black Bear Foster Mother? Did you find her?"

The young Black Bear Beastman said, "I’ve asked several females from Black Bear Mountain. They all said they haven’t seen her."

Hearing this, Xi Yi shot him a scornful look. "Useless. You can’t even handle a simple task like this."

"Master, I wasn’t finished! While we didn’t find the Black Bear Foster Mother you mentioned on Black Bear Mountain, we did find some clues related to a White Bear."

"A White Bear? Are you sure it’s the same person?"

A White Bear is completely white, worlds apart from a Black Bear.

"I... I’m not sure either, but the details match what you told me, Master. I’ll go ask around some more. I’ll be sure to have an answer for you next time."

"That’s more like it. Now scram. If you don’t have any new information next time, don’t even bother showing up."

"AWOOO... Understood, Master," the young Black Bear Beastman howled, his voice tinged with sadness.

Meanwhile, when Fu Feng heard the song, he too felt a pang of unease.

But the thought that it was his turn for night watch tomorrow quickly cheered him up.

’I need to sleep well tonight to have enough energy for tomorrow.’

He flicked his hand, creating a barrier that instantly blocked out the sound. With not a single note reaching his ears, he peacefully laid his head down and went to sleep.

As for Su Luoluo, after Nantu finished one song, she showered him with praise and asked for another, wanting to give the little one in her belly some "rhythm."

Although Nantu didn’t know what Su Luoluo meant by "rhythm," the thought that the little one in her belly might be his own cub was enough for him to agree, and he began to sing again.

In the Mermaid Clan, it is very important for a Beast Father to sing to his cub. It can soothe the little one, causing less distress for the mother.

Su Luoluo had initially listened with the playful intention of messing with Nantu, but perhaps because the song was so enchanting, it hypnotized her, and she drifted off to sleep.

When Nantu finished his song, he found that Su Luoluo had already closed her eyes and fallen asleep. A flicker of disappointment crossed his light blue eyes, but he said nothing.

He lowered his gaze, then finally reached out to hold Su Luoluo as he fell asleep.

However, this lasted only a moment before he was pushed away by Su Luoluo’s restless, sprawling limbs.

Nantu stared, stunned, at the person sprawled out before him. He had never seen anyone sleep in such a disorderly posture.

Still, he eventually lay down beside her and fell asleep.

When Su Luoluo woke up in the morning, she found Nantu was long gone from her room; she had no idea where he went.

She stretched lazily and got out of bed, feeling cheerful.

When she reached the makeshift kitchen, several pairs of eyes turned to her in unison, looking her up and down before quickly turning away.

Su Luoluo paid their stares no mind. They had worn the same expressions back when she was trying to win over Nantu, and she couldn’t be bothered to indulge them.

’It’s not like I can’t keep watch by myself. Do they really have to act like this?’

Su Luoluo walked over to the stove. The cookware was arranged neatly, not messy like the previous days. It seemed they had realized she was tired of the breakfasts they had been making and so hadn’t prepared anything.

Su Luoluo thought for a moment and decided to make dough drop soup.

She’d had her fill of the same old things these past few days and wanted a bowl of something to whet her appetite.

As she placed a pot on the stove, she noticed a rather large pile of bamboo leaves and tubes in the corner.

’What a shame,’ she thought. ’If I had some regular or glutinous rice, I could make bamboo-tube rice.’

’But with only wheat available, these will have to go to waste.’

The dough drop soup was easy to make. She started by boiling water, then added tomatoes and sliced ginger. While that came to a boil, she beat an egg and set it aside.

Once the water was boiling again, she dropped in the dough bits she’d mixed from flour, then just needed to add salt and vinegar.

There were no tomatoes in the forest, so Su Luoluo substituted them with a very similar-looking red wild fruit. When cooked, it had the same sour taste.

The only problem was the lack of vinegar. She could only squeeze in a little wild fruit juice. While it added a sour flavor, it lacked the fragrance of true vinegar.

The men were used to Su Luoluo’s cooking and found everything she made delicious. Without much fanfare, they each took a bowl and began to eat.

All six bowls were scraped clean, Su Luoluo’s included.

Ever since becoming pregnant, she’d discovered a particular craving for sour foods.

Thinking about how the sourness of the dough drop soup lacked fragrance, she decided to make her own vinegar.

Without rice or sorghum, she couldn’t make rice or sorghum vinegar. But the forest was full of wild fruit, and a fruit vinegar brewed from them would also taste wonderful.

Su Luoluo wandered around the forest for a while and found a large tree bearing many bright red wild fruits, shaped somewhat like apples.

She spat into her palms, rubbed them together, and was about to climb the tree to pick the fruit when a magnificent long tail flashed before her eyes. It landed on a branch, and its owner spoke, "Su Luoluo, don’t move! You have to be careful while you’re carrying a little one. I’ll get them for you."

With that, Fu Feng began picking the wild fruits with his sharp claws.

’It’s a simple job for his hands,’ Su Luoluo thought, bewildered. ’I don’t know what’s going through his head, insisting on fluttering around with that long tail feather of his.’

The person in question, however, was convinced he looked absolutely stunning.

In order to spend a wonderful night with Su Luoluo, he had taken great care in grooming himself and had even prepared a surprise for her.
