Chapter 349 -269: Remember, You Only Have 1 Chance
Jiang Ruan’s gaze swept over Wan Jiakai, then over the two girls who had been sitting beside Gu Heng. She didn’t feel the slightest sense of threat.
“Hello.”
“I’m Jiang Ruan.”
She took a seat beside Gu Heng as he indicated, then offered a polite greeting to Wan Jiakai.
“Hey, a pleasure.”
“I’m Wan Jiakai.”
Seeing that Jiang Ruan truly seemed unconcerned, Wan Jiakai couldn’t help but give a slightly awkward smile.
After Jiang Ruan sat down, Chu Zhengnan walked up with an awkward expression.
“Chairman Gu, my sincerest apologies.”
Chu Zhengnan lowered his head and said in a low voice, “This is entirely my fault. Due to my poor management and lack of oversight, Miss Jiang was just startled.”
Startled?
Gu Heng, who had been all smiles, let his expression fade upon hearing Chu Zhengnan’s words. He turned to look at Jiang Ruan, his brow furrowed slightly. “What happened?”
When Jiang Ruan saw Gu Heng’s expression suddenly turn serious and how concerned he was for her, a warmth flooded her heart.
“Well…”
In response to Gu Heng’s question, Jiang Ruan quietly recounted the entire incident.
“Let me see your wrist.”
After listening to Jiang Ruan’s account, Gu Heng gently lifted her right hand. Looking at the obvious bruise on her wrist, he lightly traced it with his fingertip.
“Does it hurt?”
Gu Heng asked softly.
“It’s fine.”
“I’m just fair-skinned, which makes it look more obvious.”
Jiang Ruan replied in a low voice, “It doesn’t actually hurt that much. It’s not a big deal.”
Upon hearing her words, Gu Heng said nothing more. However, Chu Zhengnan, standing before him, could clearly feel the oppressive atmosphere emanating from him.
A terrifying aura began to rise from Gu Heng. The unspoken pressure weighed down on Chu Zhengnan like a mountain. Though the private room was kept at a comfortable temperature, a fine layer of cold sweat slowly beaded on his forehead.
“Where is he?”
After a long moment, Gu Heng lifted his eyes to Chu Zhengnan, his gaze cold and detached.
“He’s currently being held in an empty private room.”
Chu Zhengnan replied hurriedly.
“How you deal with him is up to you.”
“I don’t care about the process, only the result.”
“If you don’t handle this properly, I’ll have Jun Cheng start dumping all my shares in Xingchuan International Group tomorrow.”
Gu Heng stared coolly at Chu Zhengnan. “Remember, you only get one chance.”
As Gu Heng finished speaking, Chu Zhengnan was utterly shaken.
Just moments ago, while escorting Jiang Ruan to the room, he had figured Gu Heng might be angry, but he had never imagined he would be this furious.
Dumping the shares!
Cutting all ties!
Xingchuan International Group was on the verge of a major expansion. Industrial transformation, upgrades, and growth—all of it required massive financial backing.
If Gu Heng were to dump his shares and pull his capital from Xingchuan International Group at this critical moment, all of his brother’s plans would instantly come to nothing.
‘This is a disaster! It’s way beyond what I can handle. I have to get my brother, Chu Zhengxiong, to come and deal with this personally.’
“Chairman Gu, rest assured.”
Chu Zhengnan replied respectfully, “Whatever the outcome, I guarantee you will be satisfied.”
“I’ll be waiting.”
Gu Heng’s eyes were downcast, and he paid Chu Zhengnan no more heed.
Seeing this, Chu Zhengnan slowly backed away a few steps before turning and hurrying out of the private room.
“Gu Heng, I’m really okay.”
Jiang Ruan, who had heard the entire conversation, said in a low voice, “You don’t have to go to such lengths for me.”
“It’s nothing.”
“They’ll handle it properly. You don’t need to worry.”
Gu Heng smiled at Jiang Ruan, his voice imperceptibly softening once more.
“Okay.”
Looking at Gu Heng’s gentle smile, Jiang Ruan felt completely safe.
…
「Late at night, on the elevated expressway.」
“Faster!”
“Go faster!”
Gao Zhengyang’s face was a mask of anxiety as he repeatedly urged the driver on.
The V8 engine of the extended Range Rover was running at full power. It roared like a beast, transforming the vehicle into a black streak of lightning against the dark, snowy night.
BUZZ BUZZ!
Just as Gao Zhengyang was urging the driver to speed up, the phone he had casually placed beside him started vibrating again.
He picked up the phone and glanced at it. The caller was his wife, Hu Mei.
He answered the call, and her panicked voice immediately filled his ear.
“Lao Gao, I just got a call from our son! He said he’s being held at the Platinum Association, and he was screaming for help, saying he just threw up blood!”
“What is going on?”
“Aren’t you a liquor supplier for Xingchuan International Group?”
“How could our son get beaten up like this at the Platinum Association?”
Hu Mei’s voice was filled with anxiety, ending with an accusatory question for Gao Zhengyang.
“What’s going on?”
“It’s that good-for-nothing son of ours! He pissed off someone he shouldn’t have at the Platinum Association!”
“You’re the one who spoiled him rotten since he was a kid! He’s a lawless, good-for-nothing layabout!”
“Throwing up blood?”
“It’d be better if they just beat him to death!”
Already frantic with anxiety and rage, Gao Zhengyang felt a fire ignite within him at her questioning tone, and he immediately shot back.
“I spoiled him?”
“How dare you say that?”
“Have you ever disciplined Hailong a day in his life?”
Hu Mei also had a fiery temper. Hearing Gao Zhengyang blame her, she instantly exploded, “All you ever do is work, work, work! When Hailong was little, you didn’t even know what grade he was in! All you knew was how to give money, money, money, and now you have the nerve to blame me for spoiling him?”
