Chapter 297: Chapter 239: Pushing the Boat with the Current
Han Lixin wouldn’t dare to take any action that violated the rules. Even though he was the vice president in charge of TikTok’s live streaming business, the consequences would be far more than he could bear.
However, this particular matter was certainly not a violation. At most, it was just skirting the rules. Given his status and position, there was absolutely no risk. Even if someone were to object, he could justify his actions with a clear conscience.
’Didn’t Prince Heng debut his exclusive gift in the Xingchuan 001 livestream? So, while the platform promotes this event, would there be anything wrong with me giving the Xingchuan 001 girl group a little promotional push as well?’
’Didn’t Prince Heng give all of his exclusive gifts to that streamer named Qing Qing? So, while the platform promotes this event, would there be anything wrong with me giving that streamer Qing Qing a little promotional push as well?’
By acting this way, no one could accuse Han Lixin of abusing his power for personal gain. Yet, he would earn a very substantial favor from Gu Heng. And given Gu Heng’s status, position, and wealth, a favor from him was practically priceless.
This was why so many people wanted to climb the corporate ladder and become leaders. Sometimes, they didn’t need to break any rules at all. They simply had to provide a little convenience to others—all while staying within regulations—and the returns would be immense.
After receiving Han Lixin’s go-ahead, his secretary quickly found the phone number for Xie Baoquan, the chairman of Qingcheng Entertainment, using the company’s internal system. She then dialed the number right in front of Han Lixin and put the call on speakerphone.
"Who’s this?"
Soon, Xie Baoquan’s rather irritable voice came through the phone.
"Chairman Xie, hello."
The secretary said calmly, "This is Yang Duo, secretary to Han Lixin, the Vice President of Live Streaming for the ByteDance Douyin Business Group. President Han would like to ask you something."
The other end of the line went silent for a few seconds.
"Oh!"
"Secretary Yang! Hello, hello!"
"This is Xie Baoquan from Qingcheng Entertainment. Whatever it is you’d like to ask, Secretary Yang, I’ll be an open book. I’ll tell you everything I know!"
All traces of his irritability vanished in an instant. Xie Baoquan was a man in his forties, but the moment Yang Duo introduced herself, his voice unconsciously took on a simpering tone. To call it fawning would be no exaggeration.
He had no choice but to fawn.
When he spoke with Lei Yibin, he could at least maintain a semblance of an equal conversation.
After all, they were both in the same industry. Even though Wuyou Media was far larger than Qingcheng Entertainment in scale and size, and he could show them sufficient respect, it wasn’t to the point where he’d have to fawn over them.
But the person he was speaking with now was the secretary to the vice president in charge of TikTok’s live streaming business. The man she represented might as well have been a god who controlled his very fate.
If he managed to displease someone like that, they could crush him with the slightest effort.
Ten minutes later, Yang Duo hung up.
Han Lixin had heard the entire conversation.
"You know what to do."
Han Lixin asked calmly, taking a sip of his tea.
"Understood,"
Yang Duo replied respectfully.
"You may go."
Han Lixin gave a slight nod.
Upon hearing his words, Yang Duo turned and walked briskly out of Han Lixin’s office, her high heels clicking on the floor. With the tacit understanding they’d developed over many years, no further instructions were necessary.
Han Lixin watched her graceful figure disappear. He picked up his phone, opened his contacts, and found Gu Heng’s number. But just as he was about to dial, he pulled his finger back. Instead, he opened the TikTok app, searched for the *Xingchuan 001* livestream, and quietly slipped in under the alias "Mysterious Person"...
