Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Unbelievable

At the Cableway Platform.

A young woman in a mountaineering jacket was on a live video feed with the television station via her phone.

"Hello, viewers! I’m Rongcheng News reporter Liu Wei, and I’m also a survivor of this disaster," she said.

"According to our current information, all the people trapped at the mountain plank road have been rescued by our civilian rescue team.

"However, the weather is unpredictable, and tragedy has struck again."

At this point, she flipped the camera to film the side of the Cableway Platform. Her voice grew somber.

"While we were waiting to be rescued, a torrential downpour suddenly began. With such a high concentration of tourists here, a situation occurred that no one wanted to see.

"As you can see, the railing on the right side of the Cableway Platform has broken, and three tourists accidentally fell. The only fortunate thing is that firefighters rushed to the scene and successfully pulled two of them up."

With that, she zoomed in the camera.

The lens focused on a woman wearing a white windbreaker and dark cargo pants. She was helplessly clinging to a resilient pine tree jutting out from the steep cliff face. A hint of relief at surviving the initial fall was visible on her face, but her eyes were filled with absolute despair. Rainwater dripped incessantly from the branches, soaking her hair. She trembled, hugging her lifeline tightly, not daring to make the slightest movement for fear of plummeting into the abyss in the next second.

Reporter Liu Wei continued, "But there is still one tourist trapped on a pine tree on the cliff. Firefighters are trying to find a way to save her. Due to the heavy rain and the extreme steepness of the slope, the rescue operation is proving incredibly difficult.

"However, I firmly believe that in the face of any difficulty, as long as we unite as one, we will achieve ultimate victory. This trapped individual will surely be brought to safety."

The actual situation at the scene was far more complicated than she described. In a nearby area cordoned off by caution tape, several firefighters were intensely debating rescue methods.

"Brother Qiang, let me go! You’ve already climbed down twice. Your stamina definitely can’t keep up. If you go down again..."

The rest of the sentence was left unsaid, but everyone understood the implication. The trapped woman was positioned on a near-vertical precipice, making the rescue more difficult than anything they had ever faced.

The man known as Brother Qiang was thirty years old, right at the peak of his physical fitness. Tall and lean with well-proportioned muscles, he had been working in the fire department ever since leaving the military. He was the squad’s training pacesetter and had been recognized as an outstanding firefighter in the city for three consecutive years. Yet, even with all his experience, he felt his hands were tied in the current situation.

The best-case scenario would be a helicopter rescue, but in this godforsaken weather, there was no telling how much longer the woman could hold on. Even if the odds were slim, he had to try. This was a living, breathing human life!

Just as he was putting on his gear and preparing to set out, Captain Wu Heng arrived at the scene with a few others.

"Captain, you’re here?"

"What’s the situation?"

"Right now, the victim..."

After understanding the thorny situation, Wu Heng couldn’t help but frown. Based on his experience, the difficulty of this rescue was simply too immense. Furthermore, they lacked the necessary equipment, as the first batch of firefighters to arrive had traveled light.

At that moment, a figure inexplicably appeared in his mind. He wondered, "Can he pull it off?"

Meanwhile, Su Yunzhou had just met up with a tearful Liu Yiyi.

"It’s all my fault," she sobbed. "WAAAH... If Yanyan hadn’t pushed me out of the way... what are we going to do?"

Su Yunzhou gently patted her back, constantly offering words of comfort, while his gaze shifted toward the distance.

Li Yan was trapped about twelve or thirteen meters below the Cableway Platform. That section of the cliff was completely barren, save for a single, bare pine tree swaying in the wind and rain. There was no telling how long it would hold.

"What should I do?" Su Yunzhou thought as his mind raced. Drawing on his Advanced Rock Climbing Skills, he mapped out a few potential routes, but they were all far too risky and eventually discarded.

If he could upgrade his rock climbing Skill to the Master Level, it wouldn’t be a problem at all. However, he only had 5 Skill Points left, and a Master Level Skill required 10 points to upgrade.

What could he do?

Suddenly, an idea flashed through Su Yunzhou’s mind. He reached out to the system in his head for help.

"Tong, help me out."

The system didn’t disappoint and immediately offered a suggestion.

[It is recommended that the host learn "Kato’s Eagle Finger."]

"What the hell?" Su Yunzhou blurted out, clenching his fists. If the system had been physically in front of him, he definitely would have cursed it out. Was this really the time for jokes?

Hearing his thoughts, the system promptly provided a "professional" explanation.

"HISS..." Su Yunzhou thought. "Put that way, it actually seems viable. Tong, I wronged you."

He silently apologized in his mind and immediately clicked to learn the special Skill, "Kato’s Eagle Finger."

In the next second, he felt his hands being enhanced by a strange, invisible force. His finger joints became exceptionally flexible, capable of performing highly difficult maneuvers, while simultaneously brimming with explosive, spring-like power.

He cast his gaze down the cliff face. The routes he had previously dismissed were now feasible with his enhanced fingers.

"Yiyi, listen to me..."

While the fire department was still engaged in intense discussion, Hong caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye. His face drastically changed color as he pointed at the pine tree on the precipice, his voice filled with disbelief.

"C-Captain... I think someone is going down!"

"What?" Wu Heng frowned in confusion and instinctively replied. He turned to look and was equally dumbfounded. He pulled out his phone, zoomed in, and squinted at the screen. "Isn’t that the young man from earlier? How is he so gutsy?"

Nearby, Qiangzi, who was getting ready to head down, was just as astonished. The person’s movements were professional and swift. Secured by only a single safety rope, he had just descended, exuding the boldness of someone with supreme skill.

It was a kind of nerve he had never witnessed before. He wondered, "Isn’t he just gambling with his own life?"

Naturally, the scene of someone attempting a rescue caught the attention of the crowd. Upon noticing it, reporter Liu Wei immediately called the TV station and started a live video broadcast.

As the camera continuously zoomed in, her mouth opened wider and wider.

She thought, "This... this is just too incredible!"

The figure in the black windbreaker was executing unbelievable climbing maneuvers on the smooth rock face. His arms weren’t particularly thick, yet they gave off the impression of steel hooks and sharp claws.

Watching his agile, vigorous movements, Liu Wei was reminded of an episode she had once produced with her mentor—it was about the "rock climbing masters" of the animal kingdom: the bharal, or blue sheep, which walked on sheer cliffs as if on flat ground. She remembered being deeply awed when she gathered footage of the wild sheep leaping gracefully across precipices.

Now, with a similar scene playing out right before her eyes, goosebumps erupted all over her body. The sheer shock of it was indescribable.

Her eyes closely tracked the black-clad figure. She saw him step onto a rock and use the rebound force to leap lightly, bypassing the most difficult slope entirely. His hands firmly gripped the protruding stones as he reached the side of the pine tree.

"He succeeded!" Liu Wei cried out excitedly. "I don’t know how to describe my feelings right now. This hero who ’fell from the sky’ has accomplished an impossible climb! He is now securing her with the rope. Victory is right before our eyes!"
