Chapter 53: TREK Road Bike
Chapter 53: Chapter 53: TREK Road Bike
At the Trek Bicycle Store in Rongcheng’s IFS Commercial Center.
Hearing the impatient voice on the receiver and looking at the computer clock displaying exactly 10:00 a.m., store manager Zhu Li felt slightly aggrieved. Still, she apologized profusely, "Mr. Su, this is Zhu Li, the manager of the Trek Bicycle Store. I am so sorry to disturb your rest..."
BEEP.
The call disconnected.
Zhu Li’s mouth twitched. Customers were becoming increasingly difficult to serve these days. Judging by how young he sounded, he was probably some troublesome rich kid.
Wait! Could he have placed the order in a drunken stupor early yesterday morning? But he had already paid the full amount! She had no idea what Mr. Su’s intentions were and could only wait until noon to contact him again.
The Trek Bicycle Store was quite spacious, but it only had three employees. After all, there were only a handful of customers every day, making the workload perfectly manageable. This morning, Zhu Li had cycled to work and only realized there was bird poop on her backpack when a colleague pointed it out. She had cleaned it off in disgust, but when she booted up her computer, she let out a gasp of surprise.
Early yesterday morning, a customer had placed an order for a ’Trick Road Rock Dragon Country Special Edition’ and paid the full amount of 880,000 RMB upfront. This was the store’s largest order of the year. It seemed that getting hit by bird poop really was a sign of good luck.
The Trek Road Rock series had made its name at an auction in France. A road rock bicycle, co-designed by some random hack artist, was bought by a wealthy man from Dragon Country for an astronomical price of 200,000 US Dollars. To curry favor with—or rather, to fleece—customers from Dragon Country, the headquarters specifically designed a Trick Road Rock Dragon Country Special Edition. The price tag was set at 880,000, playing on the favorite number of Dragon Country People.
However, this model did not sell well. At most, only a few units were sold across the entire Dragon Country each year. If the bike Mr. Su ordered could be successfully delivered, she would practically be guaranteed the ’National Outstanding Store Manager’ award at this year’s annual meeting. The certificate was a minor detail, of course, but the bonus attached to it was a massive deal. That was exactly why Zhu Li was so anxious.
For now, all she could do was wait for her VIP client to wake up.
Amidst her nervous anticipation, time slowly ticked away to 11:30 a.m. Zhu Li cautiously dialed the number again. This time, Mr. Su’s attitude was much better, and even his voice sounded gentler. Upon hearing that the call was about a custom bicycle, he did not seem to care much, but he still agreed to visit the store in the afternoon to discuss the customization details in person.
After hanging up.
PHEW.
Taking a deep breath, Zhu Li clenched her fists and pulled them down in a celebratory gesture, excitedly whispering, "Yes!" Then, she turned to instruct the other three employees. "The VIP client will arrive at 2:00 p.m. Everyone needs to be on their A-game. We absolutely cannot let him feel slighted by our service. If this order goes through, I’m treating you all to hotpot tonight."
"Understood!"
"Manager, we will definitely provide excellent service!"
"I’ll go mop the floors again right now."
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city.
Having just finished brunch, Su Yunzhou was also a little bewildered. The respectful and fawning tone of the woman on the phone made him realize something was slightly off. After searching online for the ridiculously long-named road bike the system had rewarded him with, he was stunned.
The first thing that caught his eye on the search page was the famous ’Trick Butterfly’, which had fetched a staggering, astronomical price at a Sotheby’s auction. The final transaction price back then was US$ 5 million. One could only imagine how much that converted to in RMB. His Dragon Country Special Edition was much cheaper in comparison, with an official price tag of just 880,000.
But why the hell did a bicycle cost so much? Wouldn’t it be better to use that money to buy a car? The world of the rich was simply too crazy. Thankfully, this was a gift from the system; otherwise, only a sucker with more money than sense would actually buy it.
However, this was merely a limitation of Su Yunzhou’s current perspective. To true billionaires, dropping 880,000 to buy a little happiness was not uncommon at all.
At 1:50 p.m.
Su Yunzhou walked out of the underground parking lot of the IFS Commercial Center. As expected of a high-end mall, even the underground parking was lavishly decorated. The major luxury brand stores on the first floor exuded an intimidating level of prestige, and the men and women shopping here were all fashionably and impeccably dressed.
Su Yunzhou walked up to the central service desk and politely asked, "Excuse me, miss. Which floor is the ’Trek Bicycle Store’ on?"
"One moment, please," the receptionist replied with a smile. She checked her computer and said, "Sir, the store you’re looking for is at No. 26 in Zone B on the third floor, right toward the food court."
Following the direction she pointed, Su Yunzhou got a general idea of the location. He thanked her and headed toward the elevator.
DING.
The elevator doors opened. Just as Su Yunzhou stepped out, a crisp, pleasant female voice suddenly called out from behind him.
"Hey, handsome!"
Su Yunzhou turned his head in confusion. A young woman with her hair styled in a fairy-like bun stood before him, wearing a sweet smile on her face. She was dressed in a sheer black shirt over a black camisole, leaving her fair, full cleavage faintly visible. For her lower half, she wore a light gray, high-slit bodycon skirt that tightly wrapped around her long, straight legs. With a pair of light-colored low heels on her feet, she looked just like the leading actress in a certain type of movie.
This girl... looked a bit familiar.
Sensing the confusion on the man’s face, she took a few steps forward, bringing with her a faint waft of perfume.
"Hey, handsome, you really are a busy man with a short memory," she teased. "I’m Miaomiao. We’ve met before..."
"Oh!"
Hearing the name, Su Yunzhou instantly remembered the female influencer who relentlessly sent him ’good morning,’ ’good afternoon,’ and ’good night’ messages every single day. It wasn’t entirely his fault for not recognizing her immediately. Miaomiao was simply too good at dressing up, and the photos she posted in her Friends Circle varied wildly in style. Seeing her in person so suddenly had just caught him off guard.
Miaomiao didn’t show the slightest hint of displeasure at him not recognizing her. On the contrary, she was secretly rejoicing that she had dressed up meticulously for work today. Wearing a sweet, ingratiating smile on her pretty face, she made up her mind to seize this life-changing opportunity no matter what.
"Handsome~" Miaomiao cooed. "Last time you said you’d call me when you were free to give me a chance to apologize. Does today work?"
Su Yunzhou paused, genuinely unsure if he had ever sent such a message. But looking into her big, sincere, doe-like eyes, he eventually nodded. "Sure! I happen to be free this afternoon."
Hearing this, Miaomiao’s eyes curved into happy little crescents. As long as she could secure a chance to spend time with him, she would find an opening to use her full repertoire of charms.
"You can do this, Miaomiao!" she cheered internally. "The ’Win Over Mr. Su’ plan officially begins now!"
When Miaomiao heard that Su Yunzhou was heading to the Trek Bicycle Store, she volunteered to lead the way.
The two chatted as they walked. Miaomiao cautiously probed Su Yunzhou, trying to decipher his preferred type of girl through their brief exchange. As an influencer with a relatively small but highly devoted fanbase, playing the ’chameleon’ was her specialty. Through her relentless efforts, a vague profile and direction began to take shape in her mind.
Judging from the fact that he was into road bikes, she deduced that he was likely a rich heir who sought thrill and freedom, loved sports, and enjoyed a high-quality lifestyle. A man like this had already seen all kinds of women, meaning physical appearance wouldn’t be his primary criterion for a partner. He would be far more interested in finding an interesting soul.
"An interesting soul!" she thought excitedly. "Then I should act like this..."
