"I thank you for that stare, it has been a while since someone looked at me with such intensity."

The woman spoke with an amused smile on her face and Lucian...

He stared at her for a good few seconds and—

"I highly doubt that."

He spoke, looking right into the woman’s eyes. Those words made the woman smile even more.

"You shouldn’t doubt that. I have no reason to lie to you.

I can prove it."

She spoke as she looked around and the instant she did—

All the people watching Lucian instantly looked away, people who were talking about him turned deathly silent, some people who were about to approach Lucian took a few steps back.

Lucian saw it all with his own eyes.

These Vampires... they had been staring at him with this strong arrogance and superiority complex all this while and now...

The instant they saw this woman standing next to him, that arrogance disappeared. They all looked away, almost as if the last thing they wanted was to get noticed.

And Lucian—

He found this entire experience... extremely familiar.

"See?"

The woman turned back towards him with the same, amused grin on her face.

Lucian kept staring at her.

’Is she... the Vampire version of my dear teacher?’

He wondered in his head. Though the moment he imagined Vivienne having a similar smile on her face, his back felt a slight tingle, almost as if it was about to be ripped out.

Definitely not Vampire Vivienne.

This woman... she was different.

"So? Who are you?"

Lucian asked with a curious look on his face. He could tell the people in the Gala were being careful around her but...

She was the one who approached him, wasn’t she?

The least she could do was introduce herself.

The woman didn’t seem offended by the question either, or at least...

That was what it seemed like.

"What a rude way to ask this question."

...at first.

Lucian blinked. The woman, however, placed her hand over her mouth and—

"You are at the Gala, you must present yourself with grace, not in this brutish manner."

Brutish...?

Lucian’s mouth twitched.

"You cannot blame me, I was taken by surprise."

"Hmm?"

"I panic when beautiful women talk to me since I am not very used to it."

"Is that so..."

The Vampire tilted her head with an amused smile.

"Of course."

Lucian nodded.

"I would have prepared a better first impression if I knew this was going to happen."

The woman stared at him for a moment, then, she laughed out loud.

"So the reports were accurate."

"Which reports?"

"That you say whatever enters your head."

"That is slander."

Lucian quickly defended himself.

"Is it?"

"Yes, I have no reason to lie to you."

Lucian used the same words she did, that made her chuckle again. Her eyes remained on him, studying him more closely. Lucian let her do what she wanted, he did the same, trying to rile up his memory to see if he could recognise her.

Not that he had very high hopes considering he had done next to no research about the Vampires. He just stared because for some odd reason, he felt like her face was... familiar.

"So you won’t lie to me, huh?"

The woman chuckled, looking into Lucian’s eyes.

"Unless you give me a reason, no."

Lucian kept smiling and the people around him...

Even though they weren’t outright staring, just the fact that he was talking to her this casually was more than enough for them to lose their minds.

"Also, you still haven’t told me your name.

It’s not fair, considering you already know mine."

"What makes you think I know you?"

"I doubt you would approach me otherwise."

"What if I only approached you because you looked pleasing to the eye?"

The woman smiled playfully. Lucian stared back at her and chuckled.

"So you are saying you don’t know me?"

He tilted his head.

The Vampire kept staring at him, Lucian did the same.

"You won’t lie to me, right?"

"Unless you give me a reason, no."

Both of them laughed.

Then—

"I know you, Lucian Cross."

She told the truth.

"And you...?"

Lucian asked and this time, he was given the answer.

"Aurelia Veyr. I’ve come here as the Representative of House Veyr."

"Veyr?"

Lucian’s expression changed, his mind instantly recalled Silvian Veyr, the Vampire he met back in the Trial and he finally realised why the woman’s face looked so familiar.

It had some of Silvian’s features.

She came from Silvian’s Family.

House Veyr.

’Well, that explains it.’

Lucian nodded to himself as he looked around.

Veyr.

While both House Arcelis and House Veyr were Ancient Vampire Houses, the difference between the two was enormous. House Veyr, even though it was in decline, was still far more powerful than House Arcelis.

And if this woman had come here as the Representative of House Veyr, she obviously wasn’t just a random member of House Veyr.

She was a higher-up.

A higher-up of one of the Strongest Vampire Houses, no wonder everyone was so careful around her.

Or at least...

That’s what Lucian guessed.

Not that it mattered right now, he had a feeling that he would find the answer soon enough.

"You are related to Silvian?"

Lucian asked curiously, wanting to know more about her.

"Indeed."

Aurelia nodded with a smile.

"He has said quite a few things about you. Not to mention, he did give you something of extreme value to our House, it obviously made me curious."

"I hope he only said good things."

Lucian’s violet eyes shone brightly.

"He did. That’s what I found so surprising. Silvian does not usually take a liking to people."

"They do say I am very charming."

Lucian smiled.

"Is that so..."

Aurelia smiled back.

"What about you? What do you think about me?"

Lucian asked curiously as he leaned closer to her shamelessly, his action obviously did not alarm Aurelia, she simply looked back at him and—

"Arrogant."

She answered directly.
