Chapter 424: PureBlood Vs Ocean Princess

  • Next Chapter

A sudden, weak snort echoed through the crystalline hall.

It didn’t come from the merfolk warriors, nor from the terrified refugees hovering in their aquatic bubbles. It came from Marcus’s arms.

Elara had finally stirred. Her golden eyes were still heavy with exhaustion, her skin pale and streaked with dried blood, but as she took in the scene—Kyle kneeling on the pearl floor, wrapped in liquid cuffs, with an aquatic queen leaning inches from his mouth—a ragged, breathless laugh burst out of her chest.

"Oh... oh, wow," Elara rasped, her voice raspy as she coughed, leaning heavily against Marcus’s shoulder while a weak, teasing grin spread across her lips. "I take a nap for an hour, Conner... and you’ve already found yourself a royal fiancee? Is this part of your grand strategy? Marrying every high-tier entity on Planet Kraken?"

Kyle shot her a flat, deadly glare sideways. "Elara. Shut up."

"I’m just saying!" Elara wheezed, letting out a faint, breathless giggle despite the agony in her ribs. "First a pureblood vampire princess... now an underwater fish queen. At this rate, by the time we reach the Heart of Kraken, you’ll be running a sanctuary for lonely apex predators. Should I start picking out wedding flowers, or do you prefer sea kelp?"

Seraphina didn’t even glance at the light mage. Her violet eyes remained locked entirely on Kyle, her long, slender fingers lingering against his jawline, feeling the pulse of his dark blood pounding beneath his skin.

"Ignore the dying mage, Kyle," Seraphina whispered, her voice dropping into that thick, heated purr that vibrated straight through his chest. "Give me your word. Accept the contract, and every mortal behind you walks into the planetary core unharm."

Kyle stared straight into Seraphina’s shimmering violet eyes. His jaw set hard, his dark eyes devoid of a single trace of hesitation.

"No," Kyle said. His voice wasn’t loud, but it was stone-cold and absolute. "I don’t sell myself to fish queens, Seraphina. Undo these cuffs, give us safe passage, or I’ll tear this pearl palace down stone by stone."

Seraphina’s smile didn’t fade. If anything, it widened into a slow, wicked curve that revealed the sharp, predatory edge of her teeth. "A stubborn male. Marvelous. The ones who bite back always taste so much better when they finally break."

The water gag sealing Yua’s mouth suddenly dissolved into thin air.

The moment her lips were free, a raw, blood-curdling scream of pure, unadulterated rage tore through the grand hall.

"GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY MAN!" Yua roared.

The sheer violence of her emotional explosion shattered the liquid cuffs binding her wrists. Crimson blood magic erupted from her body like a geyser of liquid fire, blasting the two mermen guards standing beside her directly into the crystal pillars fifty feet away.

She didn’t draw a breath. She didn’t calculate her odds. Seeing Seraphina touching Kyle’s face had snapped something fundamental inside Yua’s pureblood soul.

She launched herself forward, her boots leaving shattered pearl in her wake as two massive, jagged blades of condensed, blood-red glass materialized around her hands. She targeted Seraphina’s neck, her crimson eyes glowing with absolute lethality.

Six mermen guards lunged forward to intercept her, their heavy tridents raised to strike—

"Stand down!" Seraphina commanded, her voice ringing out like a thunderclap across the hall.

She raised a single hand, signaling her warriors to freeze. A sick, intoxicating smile spread across her flawless face as she watched the vampire princess charge her. "Let the little leech come. Let us see if the noble blood of the Spire holds any real weight, or if it is merely water diluted by vanity."

Kyle tried to push himself up to intercept Yua. "Yua, wait—!"

Before he could stand, the shallow water covering the pearl floor surged upward like living chains, wrapping around Kyle’s chest, arms, and legs, pinning him back down onto his knees with the weight of an entire ocean. Ten feet away, similar bands of pressurized liquid coiled around Elara and Marcus, locking them firmly in place.

"Stay down, human," Seraphina purred, not even turning her head as Yua closed the distance in a fraction of a second. "Watch how a true sovereign handles a pet."

Yua arrived like a storm of razor-sharp crimson glass.

"Die!" Yua shrieked, bringing her twin blood blades down in a devastating, dual-vampiric cross-slash meant to cleave Seraphina from shoulder to hip.

Seraphina didn’t even draw her trident. She stepped sideways with fluid, terrifying grace, her violet-scaled legs moving like liquid silver. The twin blood blades sliced through thin air, shattering the pearl altar behind the queen into fine white dust.

Before Yua could recover her momentum, Seraphina’s palm struck forward. It wasn’t a closed fist—it was an open-handed strike coated in pressurized, heavy aquatic force.

*BOOM!*

The palm hit Yua straight in the center of her chest. The impact sounded like a heavy iron bell ringing, cracking her ribs and blasting her backward thirty feet across the hall. Yua tumbled violently across the wet floor, spraying a mouthful of bright crimson blood across the white pearl.

"YUA!" Kyle roared, thrashing wildly against the heavy water chains binding his arms, the dark scales of his demon form attempting to force their way out through his skin.

Yua didn’t stay down. She coughed up another splatter of blood, her chest heaving as she used her blood blades to dig into the stone floor, forcing her trembling body back up onto her feet. Her dark hair was wildly matted with blood, her clothes torn, but her crimson eyes burned with a terrifying, hopeless fire.

"He... he is not yours!" Yua choked out, wiping the blood from her chin with the back of her bruised hand. She stared at Seraphina with a look of pure, agonizing possessiveness. "Kyle bled for me! He carried me through the dark! He gave me his own life force when I was dying on that river! You think you can just step in and take him with your political contracts?!"

Seraphina glided forward, her steps light, almost mocking, as she closed the distance. "He is a king, little girl. And kings belong to queens who can protect them, not fragile leeches who bleed out after a few leaps across a river."

"I WILL RIP YOUR HEART OUT!" Yua screamed, her voice cracking with raw emotional agony.

She unleashed everything she had left. **Sanguine Veil: Blood Frenzy**.

Her skin turned bright, burning red as her remaining blood core burned at maximum output. She vanished, reappearing directly above Seraphina’s head in a streak of crimson light. She swung her right blood blade down with every ounce of physical and magic strength in her body, aiming straight for Seraphina’s skull.

*CLANG!*

Seraphina finally raised her right hand. She caught Yua’s razor-sharp blood blade with her bare, scale-armored palm.

The collision created a shockwave that blew the water thirty feet back in every direction, but Seraphina’s hand didn’t move an inch. Her fingers tightened around the crimson blade, and with a simple, effortless twist of her wrist—

*CRACK!*

Yua’s high-density blood blade shattered into thousands of harmless, sparkling red fragments.

Yua’s eyes widened in sheer, horrified shock. Before she could fall back, Seraphina reached out, her pale hand grabbing Yua by her throat and lifting her five feet into the air with terrifying, effortless strength.

Yua choked, her hands scrambling uselessly at Seraphina’s iron grip, her legs kicking at thin air as the oxygen was cut off from her lungs.

"Look at you," Seraphina whispered softly, looking up into Yua’s tear-filled, suffocating red eyes with a look of cold, genuine pity. "You bleed so easily. You cry so easily. You scream like a frightened child playing at war. You cannot even protect yourself, yet you claim a man who carries the weight of forty-seven lives on his shoulders."

"Let... let him... go..." Yua wheezed out, blood trickling from the corner of her swollen lips, her fingers digging hopelessly into Seraphina’s wrist. "Kill me... if you want... but don’t... don’t take him..."

Tears of blood finally escaped Yua’s eyes, carving clean lines through the soot and pale dust on her cheeks. It wasn’t the loss of the fight that was breaking her—it was the sheer, crushing helplessness of knowing she wasn’t strong enough to stop another woman from taking the man she loved.

"Yua! Stop! SERAPHINA, PUT HER DOWN!" Kyle screamed, his voice turning ragged as dark, violent smoke erupted from his throat, his demon core flaring to life in pure, desperate panic.

Seraphina turned her gaze back to Kyle, her violet eyes cool and completely unimpressed.

"She is weak, Kyle," Seraphina said plainly, her voice carrying no malice, just a cold, undeniable truth that echoed through the grand hall. "She fought with everything she possessed, driven by noble pride and desperation, yet she could not even force me to draw my weapon. She lost by a margin so vast it is almost cruel."

With a flick of her arm, Seraphina tossed Yua away like a discarded doll.

Yua slammed heavily into the base of Kyle’s water chains, skidding across the pearl floor until her head came to rest right beside his boots. She didn’t get back up this time. Her blood magic vanished entirely, her pale body shivering violently as she lay there in a pool of her own blood, crying silently into the cold, wet stone.

"Kyle..." Yua sobbed softly, her voice small, broken, and completely shattered, her weak fingers reaching out to barely touch the edge of his boot. "I’m sorry... I’m so sorry... I wasn’t strong enough..."

Kyle felt a tear slip down his own cheek, his heart twisting into a violent, agonized knot as he looked down at her broken form. He forced his hand down through the crushing pressure of the water chains, his fingertips barely reaching hers, locking their little fingers together on the cold pearl floor.

"Don’t apologize," Kyle whispered, his voice shaking with a deep, deadly quiet. "You were amazing, Yua. You were so brave."

Seraphina walked over, stepping right up to the edge of Yua’s prone body. She looked down at Kyle, her expression completely unreadable as she crossed her arms over her pearl-scaled chest.

"She lives because I permitted it," Seraphina stated calmly. "Now, Kyle Conner. Look at your broken vampire. Look at your dying light mage. Look at your forty-seven helpless humans trapped in my bubbles. You have seen my power. You know you cannot cross this spring without me."

She leaned down, her face inches from his once again, her violet eyes burning with that sharp, unyielding demand.

"Answer me now," Seraphina purred softly into his ear. "Will you take my hand and become my king? Or do I throw all of you to the bottom of the trench?"
