Mad Feng invited everyone to a meal, but June Lowe declined. She had to stay home with her mother.

“What would you like to eat? I’ll bring some back for you,” Mad Feng asked.

“I’m not a picky eater; I can eat anything. My mother can’t handle spicy food, she prefers things a bit milder.” June Lowe said, a bit sheepishly, “Actually, I can cook myself. Maybe my mother and I should just eat at home.”

“There’s no food at home. We’ll buy some groceries later, along with pots and pans. You can cook some other time.”

Mad Feng told June Lowe to go back inside and look after her mother, then led Tang Xiao’nan and the others to a nearby restaurant. Halfway there, he couldn’t resist picking up Tang Xiao’nan and setting her on his shoulders. He finally felt content.

Tang Xiao’nan wasted no time in grabbing Mad Feng’s collar. She’d wanted to pull his hair, but Mad Feng was wearing a hat, so she had to settle for his collar. Will watched from the side, a worried thought crossing his mind. ‘The boss has completely given up. He can’t have kids of his own, so he has to settle for doting on other people’s.’

‘Some men die in their prime; my boss just withered in his. Ugh, the heavens are truly blind!’

With Mad Feng treating, lunch was particularly lavish; he ordered all the most impressive dishes on the menu. Clayton Xavier hadn’t planned on joining them, but Mad Feng told him to drop something off with his elders and come back, even promising to wait for him. Clayton Xavier quickly delivered his gift and returned, bringing a few red-dyed eggs with him.

“Please, have one. For good luck.”

Clayton Xavier handed a red egg to Mad Feng and Will, and offered one to Tang Xiao’nan as well, but she refused it. The red eggs looked pretty, but they were just plain hard-boiled eggs, which she didn’t like.

Will grinned from ear to ear and peeled an egg for Mad Feng. “Boss, this is a good one. Eating this helps you have kids.”

An image of Rosalind Green’s unparalleled beauty suddenly flashed through Mad Feng’s mind, and he chuckled. He swallowed the egg in one gulp, then asked, “Any news on that person I asked you to find?”

“Not yet. Tristone is a huge city, and we don’t even have an address. It’s not that easy to track someone down.”

Mad Feng shot him a disdainful glare. “Go back to Tristone tomorrow and keep looking.”

Will meekly agreed, but inwardly, he was unimpressed. ‘All I have is a name and the fact that she’s a “peerless beauty.” Where am I supposed to find someone like that? The boss is on a fool’s errand.’

Adrian Hawthorne was quite curious. “Who are you looking for? Perhaps I can help.”

Mad Feng, however, was a bit embarrassed. A man his age chasing after a beauty like some lovesick teenager—he was too sheepish to admit it in front of these youngsters. He brushed off the offer with a vague reply. Besides, Adrian Hawthorne couldn’t help anyway; the woman wasn’t in Vessaria.

After the meal, Mad Feng ordered a Three Delicacies Soup and some light side dishes from the restaurant to take away. But just as they reached the front door, they heard low growls and desperate pleas coming from inside the house.

Before Mad Feng could even react, Jim Thorne and the others rushed into the house, freezing in shock at what they saw.

June’s mother, who had been so gentle and quiet earlier, was now clawing at her daughter like a ravenous wolf. Her eyes blazed with hatred as she hit and kicked. “I’ll kill you… You’re all devils! Go away! Don’t come near me…”

“Mom, it’s me, June! It’s your daughter,” June Lowe pleaded, trying to bear the pain.

“Get out! I don’t have a daughter! You’re a demon, get away from me! Titus, where are you? Come save me!”

June’s mother didn’t even recognize her own daughter anymore. She screamed in terror, and when Titus didn’t appear, her mind seemed to shatter completely. She lunged forward and bit down hard on June Lowe’s hand, refusing to let go. Blood seeped from the corners of her mouth. Forcing back the pain, June Lowe still comforted her in a gentle voice, “Mom, don’t be afraid. I’ll stay with you. Dad and I will both stay with you.”
