Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling
Chapter 760: It's a Small World
Madcap was even more surprised. Clayton Xavier’s grandmother had to be over sixty, at least. In the old days, women rarely showed their faces in public; they usually stayed home to support their husbands and raise their children. Plus, he’d heard Clayton’s family were landlords. A rural landlord would be even less likely to let the women of the family go out and see patients.
It seemed Clayton Xavier’s grandmother was no ordinary woman. Madcap’s curiosity was piqued.
“Does your family run an apothecary?”
“We used to have apothecaries in both Vessaria and Oakfell,” Clayton Xavier answered truthfully.
A thought suddenly struck Madcap. “What is Anton Xavier to you?”
“He’s my grandfather.”
Madcap froze for a moment, then laughed. ‘What a small world. You run into familiar faces everywhere. No wonder I thought Clayton Xavier looked familiar the first time we met. The kid looks a lot like that old scoundrel, Anton Xavier. But Clayton has an air of integrity, while Anton was an old scumbag—a real piece of work.’
“Is your grandmother well?”
“She’s doing quite well. You know my grandparents, Madcap?” Clayton Xavier was also surprised.
Madcap shook his head. “Not personally. I’ve just heard of them. Your grandmother’s Seven Snow Ointment is excellent, but it’s a shame it’s no longer in production.”
‘He knew Bernice was searching everywhere for the Seven Snow Ointment, too. But ever since that old scumbag Anton Xavier went abroad, it had gone out of production. Only Anton’s first wife—the inventor of the ointment herself—knew the formula.’
Clayton Xavier glanced at the scar on Madcap’s face and, assuming he wanted it removed, offered, “If you want some Seven Snow Ointment, Madcap, I can make it. My grandmother taught me how.”
Madcap raised an eyebrow. ‘It seems Old Mrs. Xavier passed all her skills on to her grandson.’ But he didn’t need it. He had no desire to remove the scar on his face; he had grown so used to it that he would be a little sad to see it go.
“I don’t need any, but it would be a real shame for this Seven Snow Ointment to remain out of production. You should bring it back into the world when you have the chance. A lot of people need it,” Madcap suggested sincerely.
Clayton Xavier grew thoughtful. He had never considered this before, but now he was taking it seriously. ‘If it can truly help people, then it really is necessary to bring the Seven Snow Ointment back into the world.’
“I’ll discuss it with my grandmother.”
Madcap glanced inside the house and said, “This mother and daughter are the wife and child of a brother of mine. He passed away from an illness not long ago, and I was entrusted with looking after them. But I can’t stay here forever. Since you know medicine, I’d like to ask you to come by and check on them from time to time.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be sure to come by often.”
Clayton Xavier gave his solemn promise. He wasn’t one to make promises lightly, but once he did, he always saw them through.
Madcap smiled faintly. ‘With both Clayton Xavier and Adrian Hawthorne looking after them, I can return to Capria with peace of mind.’
He waved Adrian Hawthorne over. “You know this area better than I do. Get June a school placement.”
“Sure. What grade is Miss Lowe in?” Adrian Hawthorne readily agreed. ‘Getting her into school is a small matter.’
‘The wife of Director Hughes at the movie theater works for the Education Bureau. I got him a color TV last time for less than the department store price, and he was thrilled. He told me to let him know if I ever needed a favor. All I need to do is have a word with him.’
‘Favors are a two-way street, after all. That’s how you build a network.’
The question stumped Madcap. ‘How would I know what grade she’s in?’ Just then, June Lowe came out, and he called her over. “What grade are you in?”
June Lowe was a little surprised but answered truthfully, “I only attended school for one year. My father and mother weren’t in good health, so I dropped out to take care of them at home. But I’ve studied on my own up to the fourth-grade level, and my mother has taught me, too.”
