Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling
Chapter 755: Don't Quarrel with Money
Adrian Hawthorne pushed his bike toward the door. On his way out, he casually pinched Tang Xiao’nan’s nose. Tang Xiao’nan slapped his hand away and shot him a glare. Adrian Hawthorne just smiled, got on his bike, and rode off.
Mrs. Green watched with a smile. ‘My grandson and this little chubby girl get along so well. This must be what they call childhood sweethearts,’ she thought. ‘It’s a shame, though. My grandson’s marriage is up to my son-in-law to decide, and I doubt he’d approve of this girl’s family background.’
Inside the house, Rosalind Green and Phoebe Huxley were chatting with the other women, and the conversation turned to Ethan Hawthorne.
“So there really is a homewrecker? Divorce him! You have to! Once you’re rid of that bastard, we’ll find you someone better!” Phoebe Huxley’s voice was loud, and Mrs. Green, standing outside, heard every word. Her heart sank.
‘No wonder my daughter is so set on getting a divorce. It seems she’s been brainwashed.’ Of course, she didn’t suspect Phoebe Huxley of having ulterior motives. If Ethan Hawthorne were just an ordinary man earning a fixed salary, Mrs. Green wouldn’t have tried to talk her out of it. With her daughter’s good looks, finding another man with a steady salary wouldn’t be hard at all.
But Ethan Hawthorne wasn’t an ordinary man. ‘Letting some other woman get her hands on all that family wealth…’ Mrs. Green couldn’t stand the thought of it on her daughter’s behalf.
“My mom doesn’t agree. She told me to just endure it and wait until Kenneth is grown up,” Rosalind said quietly.
“Why wait until Kenneth is grown up?”
“Once Kenneth is grown up, he’ll be able to take control of the family finances. My mom said to put up with it for the money’s sake.” Rosalind was an open book and said whatever was on her mind. Hearing this from outside, Mrs. Green shook her head in dismay.
‘I’ll have to talk to my daughter later. She needs to be more guarded, no matter who she’s speaking with. She can’t just spill all our family business like that. You never know what people are really thinking.’
Juliana Rhodes couldn’t help but ask, “How much money does your husband’s family have?”
“Yeah, wasn’t your husband’s family denounced? How do they still have money?”
Rosalind replied, “I’m not exactly sure how much, but my father-in-law is very wealthy. Back in the day, his factory produced almost all the fabric in the south.”
Juliana Rhodes was stunned. Her expression suddenly changed. “Your family isn’t… the Wellspring Dyeing Company, are they?”
“Yes, that’s it. My husband’s grandfather founded the factory, and my husband managed it later on. But it belongs to the government now,” Rosalind nodded.
Juliana Rhodes’s expression grew strange, and she stared fixedly at Rosalind for a long moment. The other women were confused. ‘Wellspring Dye Works? What’s that?’ It certainly sounded impressive, though.
“Has your family’s property been returned?” Juliana Rhodes asked.
Rosalind shook her head. “I’m not sure. Maybe some of it has been. My husband and that woman are living in one of our family’s old houses, and I’m the one who furnished it.”
Juliana Rhodes cut through Rosalind’s sorrowful tone. “Your mother is right,” she said gravely. “You can’t get divorced. If you do, you’re just letting that homewrecker have it all. Your husband has more money than you could spend in a dozen lifetimes. You’d be a fool to leave him now. You have to drag this out until Kenneth is old enough to take control of the family fortune. Only then can you even think about divorce. Listen to your mother. She definitely has your best interests at heart.”
Outside the house, Mrs. Green breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Thank goodness someone here has some sense. That’s exactly what I was thinking.’
The other women, however, were still completely lost. Just how rich *was* he?
Juliana Rhodes proceeded to educate them. “My sister-in-law married a man from Tristone, right? Well, her husband works at Wellspring Dye Works, and so did his father. Whenever my sister-in-law comes back to visit, she’s always talking about the Hawthorne family from the old days. They were incredibly powerful bosses. They owned over a dozen villas in Tristone alone and had mountains of cash. Even if they’ve fallen on hard times, a wrecked ship is still worth its iron. Just getting those properties back would be enough for Rosalind and her son to live on for the rest of their lives. Only an idiot would get divorced now. Why on earth would you let a homewrecker get all that for nothing?”
Phoebe Huxley and the other women were stunned. They knew Rosalind’s in-laws were wealthy, but they’d had no idea they were *this* wealthy. Over a dozen villas… You’d have to be unimaginably rich to afford that.
“In that case, maybe you shouldn’t get a divorce after all. For the sake of the money, just pretend that bastard is a piece of furniture,” Phoebe Huxley said, completely changing her tune. No one in their right mind would walk away from that kind of money.
